Design Equations was launched in 2008. The company is owned by Brenda Goran and partner Randy Maxwell. After building a new home with a large side deck, Brenda puzzled over the various options for skirting and found nothing she liked or could install herself. Thus, the idea of mesh skirting was born. After testing for several years, deckALL Skirting was introduced to the retail market. Other related products were added as new ideas for the using the outdoor mesh were discovered.

> We have a beautiful patio/deck area on top of our newly renovated building.  Unfortunately, we were unable to spend any quality time sitting out there as the sun would be so hot and there is no shade.  Thankfully, we contacted Design Equations in Winniepg, Manitoba.  I spoke with Brenda and Randy.  They were a fantastic team!!  They came up with a customized  project... to attach 8' black mesh between the pre-existing metal arches with accent of 4' cedar coloured mesh centered on the black.  The mesh solution works as we have strong winds that are a factor and the mesh provides less resistance, preventing damage to the cover.  It stays up all winterlong as well... does well with the snow.  It also allows some filtered sun to make its way through.  We really feel that this is an attractive and functional shade cover, making this space usable.  We are so pleased with the finished look.  Thank you Randy and Brenda!

> Hello,
> I purchased the "deck-all" product from Design Equations.  The product is normally intended for use as a covering for the sides of decks, etc.  I decided to use it as a wrap for a Gazebo (essentially like a bug screen) since the material is much stronger than typical bug screen.  It worked wonderfully, and the Gazebo works great.  To date I have not experienced any issues with the screen in terms of tears, rips, etc.  I look forward to many years of trouble-free use.  The Gazebo gets a lot of complements from people who come over!

## Community Q&A

**Q: Blah wall on porch needs weather proof art** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We live in MA, and replaced our back deck w/a 3 season porch.  I've got a blank yellow clap wall against the house side that needs help. In the late spring through fall we put in screens. In the fall through spring plexi-glass windows all the way around. All spring, summer & fall long the porch gets damp from dew overnight. By the time we have frost & snow the plexiglass is in and it is dry in there.  I'm looking for decor ideas for this wall with an off-set couch in between 2 sconces.  We pre-wired cable and power access for a T.V. that we aren't going to buy yet and I want to hide.  This is the only furniture layout that works.  I'm looking for ideas and vendors for outdoor art that can handle our climate.  Our temperature swings are huge, -30F at times in the winter to 100+F in the summer.  I am most concerned with the damp.  These 1 year old Sunbrella cushions already have mold from the dampness, they do not get direct rain.  I thought about putting my husband's stuffed Marlin on this wall but I'm worried about the dampness.  What are your ideas?

A: Here is another suggestion, we have an outdoor mesh that we use for creating stencils and custom pieces.  The fabric is mold/mildew resistant, UV protected and cold crack resistant.  Great for DIY projects!
