**Q: Changing to granite need ideas on color and backsplash** *(in Design Dilemma)*

A: I would not advise putting granite on these older cabinets.  180FX laminate with the ideal bullnose edge will fool any non professional.  Save till you can do it right.  (I love the vintage look of the cabinets)

**Q: Cracked kitchen cabinet doors** *(in Other)*

We had our kitchen cabinets installed about a year ago (whole house was renovated about a month before the cabinets were installed). 5 month after the cabinets were installed, we ordered another cabinet from same company(same design, same paint).
About 6 months after the first batch of cabinets were installed, we started noticed cracks on the doors on the first batch. It might happened earlier. We were busy with out door renovations, we might just missed them. Some of them are hairline cracks, but some of them are very severe. Like the crack shows in this picture, it is as wide as 2 mm and I can see the joint.
No matter the doors have big or small cracks, all the doors expended. As show in this picture, they expended more in the middle and less on the edge. There are 2 doors I can not close because they are too tight.
The second batch of the cabinets look fine until now.
We contacted the cabinet company. They said they ordered the doors from a big local company. The door company start to say it is all because the "dramatic humidity change at customer home".
We have a humidifier and the humidity was kept around 40% -45% during the winter. I renovated the whole house and all the solid wood floor, baseboard, door/window frame and doors (including those at kitchen) have no cracks or noticeable expansion. Consider the money we spent on the renovation, we definitely tried to maintain everything in a good condition.
Can any one provide any suggestion how this happened and how should I deal with the cabinet door company?

A: it could be something different but you should be able to move the door out with the hinge.  frequently, there is adjustment to pull the door away or closer to the frame.  this can give it the fraction of an inch it needs to swing.  It wouldn't move the door to the left or right any or up or down, so it shouldn't be needing any additional space.  Full overlay doors hinges are made to opperate within their own door thickness for this exact reason.  take a picture and post a door that wont open.  Maybe I can help tell you for sure.  Frequently, the cabinetry problems are easy install adjustments, not actual cabinet flaws. (which is waay cheaper too)

I'm a senior on a fixed income so I need to be creative. The kitchen looks out onto the neighbor's kitchen to the east. I've come up with ideas for the rest of this house, which is as small as the kitchen implies! But I can't think of anything to do with the kitchen. An

y ideas?

A: I would like to remove the doors or the entire cabinet above the sink.  I woulf also change the paint to something more cool to open the space.

A: hello.  Thank you for the compliment, I love this line.  This is Mid-Continent Cabinetry.   Mid Continent is a fantastic line to work with because they have many of the capabilities of a custom line but without the cost.  Just a few of the features they offer are 1 1/2" increments on cabinet sizing limiting the amiunt of fillers and maximizing storage and even custom paint colors. **Q: Blue cabinets vs. Blue walls** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am trying to decide whether to paint my builder grade cabinets and put hardware on them, or just keep them as is and paint the wall blue. I live in a very cookie cutter neighborhood and I would love to personalize it without making it un-sellable when and if we decide to move in a few years.

A: I use this hardware frequently and have them at my desk.  They are comfortable in the hand.  Hardware is washable if you get something on them they are easy to wash just in the sink like a fork.  If you like them do it!  It's your room.

Here is my colonial stucco home. I am changing the color palette, new windows, and roof.  I would love a more contemporary/cottage feel. Is that even possible? I found a free 30 day trial and made this change in the 2nd picture. 3rd picture is the property brothers Vegas home that I love. Please design pros work your magic! Thank you!!!

A: IMO a cottage inspired look is attainable.  Cottage homes frequently have a porch which you don't but landscaping that opens up the front door would give the same visual weight.  They also have contrast trim which you have your window frame detail that could be accented along with adding an additional front facade finish I.e. Stone a rough timber accent etc.  I'm writing this without looking at your picture.  Sorry.  Gather lots of pictures you like a good local designer who deals in construction will be able to help sift through and find what it is you love about all of the pictures and apply it to your home which is beautiful and screaming for some personalization.
