## Community Q&A

**Q: Need storage solutions for upstairs nook** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My 1912 house has a funky little space near the upstairs landing where the roofline hits the wall. Right now there are ugly kitchen cabinets with a laminate countertop measuring 24" deep by 68" wide fitted in there. I'd love to rip this out and replace with something more attractive and useful for storage of boxed games and books. Headspace is tight. The wall meets the roof at 47". Adjacent to this cubbyhole is a built in closet. Any ideas most appreciated!

A: Looks like somebody planned to have wine cooler in that open space in between the cabinets, therefore that supposed to be dry bar, not the storage. If you want to convert this to storage space, just close this niche with sliding doors (mirror?) and install shelves in there

**Q: Paint color to compliment river rock and roof** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Help! Wanting to paint our 1920 colonial a color other than white. We were thinking a very dark slate/dark blue/charcoal type color for the house, wood front door, and white for trim. But would this look ok with the river rock sunroom, carport, and foundation,
which is brown tones and also the roof, which is a dark gray?

A: Beige siding + dark brown trims = love it

**Q: Kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hubby finally installed wooden crown chandelier...Need accents

A: Be careful with that himalaya counters, it's quartzite - marble and quartz mix in natural way, so it's not as resistant as granite. Any fruit acid will etch it, not to mention that anything you will drag over it will leave tiny scratches.

**Q: Is this table too big for the space??** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Ignore the green paint :) we are repainting soon. Worried that this table is too big for the kitchen? What do you all think? I definitely have more than the required 38 inches all around but it seems huge to me. Table is returnable minus the shipping fee. Tia!!!

A: love the transparent ones... nice combination of victorian and modern mix... yours wood base with cushion pad ones sucks, sorry. Your bench color has to match something, ether table wood or be gray to work with plastic chairs

**Q: Fireplace walls** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Any suggestions on what I should do to style my fireplace mantle and the walls on either side of it? I am stuck and struggling.
Thank you for any suggestions.

A: Well... that stone can be a little updated... check out one of the fireplaces we did recently:

**Q: quartz fabrication question** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am looking to maximize the length of a new quartz or possibly quartzite countertop. I am wondering roughly how much length is lost in fabrication. for instance if I choose a piece of quartz that is 120 inches long what can I expect the link to be after fabrication? Thanks so much in advance for any input.

A: nothing will be left after 10' cut
