Their design process is adequate, but they bid out the work to the absolute cheapest and worst possible contractors (likely unlicensed). A 6 week project slid to 7 months. In the process the contracting work was so poor that I drove to their offices to speak with their CEO to share them photos to ask them if what they saw was acceptable. I got lip service and excuses. Most of the work had to be redone. > > Fast forward 1.5 years and the entirety of the tile work in the shower has delaminated with the ceiling failing catestrophically, nearly collapsing on a family member. Dwellify stated that it was likely due to humidity (it's a shower, of course it is humid) but that because it was outside the 1 year warranty there was nothing they could do. > > I reviewed the tile with another contractor who was appalled by what they saw. Dwellify's contractors had used mortar instead of mastic, which no licenses contractor would ever do. > > Ultimately, it is going to cost thousands of dollars to undo and redo the work they did. > > I REPEAT, DO NOT USE THIS FIRM. The estimate included 12 items, as you can see in the picture. They gave me a price range, and I communicated that I would like to stay in the low to mid range. Despite this being a relatively small remodel (didn't include vanity area), it took 3 months to design. At one point, I wanted a warm toned ribbon tile. They gave me 2 samples and told me they had no more options. Both options had strong grey undertones. Fine, I found samples on my own, and even offered to purchase that tile on my own. They said that they would still charge me for their tile, even thought I wasn't going to use their tile. What?? They refused to tell me the price of any of the tiles they offered me. Ultimately, their quote was $10K above what they initially estimated. When I questioned this, they scrambled and told me it was because "you now want the tub angled." I told them to check the original quote, angling was already included (item 4). They then scrambled again and told me it was the tile choices. I said, ok, find me cheaper tiles. They said they could not. They then told me it was because I wanted a pocket door. Once again, I informed them that the pocket door was included in the original quote (item 12). They ignored it, and told me I could either pay the $10K extra or they would not take on my project. Dwellify wasted 3 months of my time, tried to gaslight me by telling me things were not in the original quote when they were, hid prices from me, and showed zero transparency. If I asked for transparency, I was told by her to "trust us more." Not only did my project take over twice as long as planned (began late June, estimated completion early August, actual completion mid October), but the communication around it was poor. I was consistently reassured up until about a week before the scheduled completion date by someone who had not been to the job site that the project was on track. This was clearly not true. After that, each time I asked, I was given a new completion date of about a week later. After a few weeks of that, I realized it was all unsubstantiated and I gave up on trying to get a timeline. > \- The company has a policy of all communication going through a "remodel coordinator" - contractors are not supposed to call clients with questions. This lead to communication breakdowns and no doubt some lost time. I understand that the company needs to know of changes, but this communication could be handled better.
