The project started in late June and completed in October. Joe Starke is a skilled lead carpenter. PRC is dependable, knowledgeable, and really offers great customer service. They are an amazing team of professionals and their work shows for itself! We had needed to remodel our master bathroom since moving into our home. We purchased a foreclosure and the master bath was hideous - we used it for storage since most of the items did not work. We have had all of our other baths remodeled over the years and while they turned out nice, we never found someone that we felt would be able to take on this big of a job and stick to a timeline and budget. I was tired of chasing down contractors who didn't show up or didn't listen so we had to find the right company to work with for this remodel. We knew this would be a big job and we had a realistic budget going in. The problem is we could not find any company that would detail out what would be done how long it would take, as well as provide drawings etc. We had companies coming in at 50K + with just sketches on notebook paper and Id have to keep asking about missing items on the statements of work OR they were forcing their vision on us. This all changed when Morgan and Sophia came through our door. They are real designers who know what they are doing. Not only are they super professional but they listened. Morgan got our vision and came back with multiple work ups of the bathroom layout that not only fit our wants, but provided options that fit within our budget range. They had a detailed list of everything we asked for - I didnt have to keep going back with what about this or that - it was all right there. The contract detailed exactly what was going to happen. It was a no brainer to go with PRC for us. From our first meeting with our PM and our lead (Chris) we knew we made the right decision. Morgan helped us pick different materials and dealt with my frugal ways! Chris was amazing to work with - showed up every day on time and kept us aware of what was going on. He brought us into the process and we were able to make changes as needed. Chris is a master as his craft - so detailed. We always felt safe with them in our home, they kept our house immaculate and my dogs love all of them! The work done is simply amazing and you can not beat their work guarantee! Remodeling is stressful - but PRC made it pretty easy for us especially with a total gut - and I mean total gut! New doors, windows, heated floors, toilet room, huge shower with multiple shower heads - the whole nine yards! We were able to get everything we wanted. If you are on the fence wondering if you should go with PRC, the answer is yes. They take away the stress and I'm so glad we held out for what we wanted. Its the best decision we made and we are already thinking of a kitchen remodel! We hired Rob and PRC to renovate a 100 year old bathroom. The renovation included taking the room down to the studs, replacing all mechanicals, restoration of original built ins, and the tub, and all new walls, floor, and tile work. Rob provided a detailed, honest, and accurate estimate, and made good suggestions for fixtures and tile. The whole team listened to what I wanted and worked to achieve that goal, including weird requests like saving the original art deco soap dish. When unexpected issues came up, they immediately shared the details and gave me several options of how to solve them. Nate was pleasant, easy to get along with, organized, there every day, and I can't say enough about the quality of his work. The tile work, especially, is beyond what I was hoping for. Communication with all members of the team was fantastic. The project was completed within the time frame, and it looks beautiful. I highly recommend PRC. I have already started to work with them on another potential house project. Our master bath went from a yellow 70s nightmare to a beautiful, peaceful and functional space. We also did some tile work and a little "facelift" in our hall bath which far exceeded our expectations. Sophia and Nate were so helpful in designing a space that met our aesthetic expectations but also stayed within budget. Nate was beyond respectful of our home, pets, family and we missed him when the project was complete. There are so many examples of their attention to detail - perfectly fitted baseboards, finished paint in areas that you don't even see, and peace of mind that the plumbing and structural elements will last. Sophia was our designer and Chris was our lead carpenter. Sophia helped us redesign the layout and pick out some great materials. Chris was fantastic to work with. He was prompt, engaging, and extremely clean. They took extremely good care of our home and put down protective floor coverings throughout the project. Most days you would not have even known that there was work being done in the house if you were there after hours. They also took the time to go over all of our options with us and gave us opportunities to ask questions throughout the process. Chris installed a subway tile shower and his tile work is amazing. Everything feels very high quality and we are so excited to use PRC for our upcoming home projects. They stayed on budget and on schedule. Would highly recommend! **★ — R. Walters, Oct. 2019** > I wasn't planning on writing a review about our experience with PRC, but after finding more examples of poor workmanship on a project that was supposed be completed 10 months ago, I've changed my mind. This post is not motivated by malice, but we are very disappointed. PRC came highly recommend, and we knew we'd be paying a premium for a good company. We expected a lot more on a job that nearly totaled 40K. Our entire project was not terrible, and there were areas where PRC excelled. First the Good: > PRC was organized and prompt every day that they came to work. > They respected our home, and did their best to make sure the rest of the house remained clean. > They stuck to the contract. > They were always patient with us and answered our questions. > Their design assistance was great, and we love the aesthetics that were chosen for hour kitchen project. > They definitely listened and tried to address our concerns (but they fell short). > The Bad: > This is just my theory, but I feel as though our project was considered insignificant compared to more complicated work that I know PRC does. > We are going to have to replace the new floor in our kitchen/dining room that is not 12 months old because PRC failed to install it properly. We will now be forced to spend another 3-4 K on the replacement. To be fair, PRC returned most of our money we paid them for the floor. I appreciate this greatly, but it is going to cost us money we didn't plan on spending on getting it right. The floor co. we are using now took one look at the floor and explained all the areas that were done incorrectly. They are going to use our floor as an example of poor installation to future clients. They will also photograph the new floor to present a before and after example. > The plumbing under our sink came undone after maybe 2 months. This was repaired promptly, but I worry about its longevity. > Switch plates and the new heat register were installed crooked. Again, this was fixed, but why not install it right the first time? > The issue that is forcing me to write this review, the paint. I believe this was a 1200 item on our work order. They came multiple times in order to get it right. It still isn't. There are areas that are not covered, blotchy, and simply not painted at all. As I was cleaning a portion of the wall yesterday, I noticed that there are entire sections of wall that are not painted. It is just bare wall compound. We did not receive a refund for the paint, but I did not ask for one. My mistake. It should not take multiple visits to paint one room properly. However, this is another example of how I will be spending more time and money for something that I already paid for. > There are more issues, but these are the most significant. Again, we are so disappointed. We wanted to work with PRC on future projects, but that is impossible now. We actually don't even want to get involved in any more home projects after this experience. I think PRC has the ability to deliver quality work, but for some reason they fell quite short with our home. **Comment from Pittsburgh Remodeling Company:** > I’m sorry to hear that you’re disappointed with how the project turned out. We did everything we could to make you happy, and I’m sorry it wasn’t enough. Since you’ve chosen to share your experience, I want to address a few of your comments to try and add perspective to potential readers. > > To your point about feeling like your project was insignificant. It most definitely was not, however it was on the smaller end of projects we work on. Here’s the difference, and for what it’s worth, I believe this adds insight to some of your other complaints as well. > > Most of our projects are bigger because in most of our projects, we do a complete renovation. This means demolition down to the framing, all new mechanical, drywall, etc. In this way, we’re able to guarantee good quality results, however projects end up being more expensive with this approach—it’s just more work. This was definitely not the scope of work we did at your house. The goal for your project was to move/touch/change as little as possible in order to achieve a result within a stated budget. We worked together to make specific selections and design a scope of work around that budget. At no point in the project development did you or your wife communicate to me that longevity or overall quality were your driving purpose behind the project. > > I’m sorry you’re still not happy with the paint work. To be clear, the scope of painting I sold you was minimal prep, and two fresh coats over existing drywall. I went so far as to come back and perform touch ups on three separate occasions. In hindsight, it sounds like what you wanted was a “level-five finish,” in which all walls are skimmed out and primed like new drywall. This is fundamentally a different scope of work than what I sold you, and I’m sorry if that’s still not clear. It sounds like you expected us to own every square inch of drywall in your kitchen, but that’s certainly not the reflected in the scope of work in our contract. All we did was put new paint on existing walls. > > Along the same lines, the reason your garbage disposal fell out is because we re-used the old one that came with your house, again for budget reasons. Your disposal is at/near the end of its life and makes a ton of noise and vibrates a lot. So much so that it caused a nearby fitting to come loose. We were on site to fix it the next day. You acted like this was a deliberate insult against you personally, and took personal offense to it, which I still don’t understand. This taking personal offense to random incidents happened a few times throughout the project. Most of our other clients would calmly point out, “hey, could you guys please touch up a nail hole,” and we’d happily oblige. You took personal offense to many small things, which made it incredibly difficult for me to manage or maintain expectations. > > Finally, about the floor, we chose a glue down linoleum floor, primarily for budget reasons. There were some very minuscule imperfections after the first install, which we attempted to fix and made it worse. I’m sorry we couldn’t get it to a place you were happy with. I’ve since refunded 100% of what we charged you for materials and labor, without push-back, which really is the best I can do.
