## Community Q&A

**Q: Floor covering for Radiant in floor heat?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have installed radiant in floor heating in a large action of our basement. We are now running into issues with our top choices for floor coverings so are leaning towards porcelain tiles that look like wood.  Most others (engineered, laminate vinyl plank) have a maximum heat limit of 85 F.  The water lines running under the concrete base carry 110 F so they won't work. Any others had this issue, and what did you install over it?

A: We would suggest both reviewing the recommendations of both the floor heat manufacturer, and your preferred flooring provider. We have installed tile, solid oak, and a variety of engineered hardwoods over hydronic in-floor heat on many projects, and never had an issue. As always, using time tested, quality trades and suppliers is recommended.

**Q: Fireplace Surround** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where did you find that surround for the fireplace? It's gorgeous.

A: The fireplace surround was designed and built by Al Grant Construction. They are 3/4" curved maple panels, with a flashing used for the reveal. The concrete was manufactured by Liquid Stone.
