We wanted a house where the outside environment was the focus, basically one story but with a studio loft, and with an unfinished walkout basement. He studied the land, watched the sun move across the fields, figured out how to catch the sun in the morning and the shade in the evening. He included overhangs, decks, walkways, the living area was filled with light and every function of the house was carefully thought out. He gave a nod to the rural area by designing an exterior with materials that gave a nod to a barn. He was thoughtful, fun to work with and most importantly a professional. I'm not sure how long the down post should be. A: I am afraid I did not specify the fan in this room so I cannot answer your question. It would seem to me that at your location, you should be able to measure from the underside of the ridge or ceiling to the bottom face of your beam and specify a fan stem length that will keep the fan a few inches above the bottom of the beam accordingly. **Q: what is the ceiling pitch?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: The pitch is 10:12, framed with 2 x 12 rafters. **Q: windows?** *(in Photo Questions)* What type of windows are these? I believe the owners remove the screens in the winter and leave the windows closed to enjoy the solar gain during the Michigan cold spell.
