We started out with a dim idea of the finished project; so we needed someone who would work with us over a potential long time to figure out exactly the final project and the final cost. We did not want to be pushed along. And, to be extremely difficult, we did not want to move out of the house! Taylor Burton accommodated us on all these fronts. They suggested we stage the work in five separate projects so that while they worked in one area of the house, we could live in another. Then they presented a line item budget for each stage that provided the cost of things like labor, materials, clean up, fixtures, lighting, flooring, windows, doors, insulation, HVAC... Line items like flooring gave us a flooring budget that allowed us to shop for flooring knowing that we could spend up to the line item amount and not exceed our budget. We spent a lot of unpressured time shopping to find just exactly the things we wanted for our renovation. If we spent less than the line item for the item, then the total budget cost would reduce by that amount. Taylor Burton gave us many wonderful ideas based on their experience and what was currently favored in the housing market. > > We spent about two years doing this renovation. During that time we renovated the basement, 3 bathrooms, added a half bath, added a large den/sun room, cabinets and flooring, two decks, front porch steps, a covered patio, and sod in the back yard. It was really a great deal of work. We always felt like we were in control, but we did not have to manage any part of the work.
