> I have used dex’s Skills on many occasions as I try to manage my property from a remote location. He has come on short notice for a leaking toilet but also done more long term work on a bathroom concern (the shower floor was leaking into the kitchen below). At all times he is honest, skilled, trustworthy and fast. He is on time and makes me aware of any issues as they arise. You would make a wise choice hiring Dex.

> I've worked with Grimmett Contracting on two large jobs: remodeling of my master bathroom (4/2013) and building a double-size shed (to HOA guidelines, 10/2015). The bathroom remodeling involved enlarging the shower area (thus cutting back the size of a closet), replacement of a vanity and toilet, and taking out walls to generally enlarge the area; new floor tile was installed in the entire area as well as wall painting, fixture replacement, and additional electrical sockets. The shed rebuild involved cement work (enlarging the slab), a 4'x8' shed with double doors and real cedar shake shingles, and some rebuilding of the perimeter fence.
>
> I was and remain well pleased with the work on both projects! Grimmett Contracting isn't the least expensive contractor, but the work is EXCELLENT. For example, when the City Inspector came to review the new shed, he said it was a real pleasure to see something that well made and exceeding code standards, and I can attest the bathroom work was just as good (I love my bathroom!). Working with Mr. Grimmett can be a little challenging if you're not a visual person, but he will answer questions until you understand what is envisioned. (Also, be prepared for him to argue if what you "think" you want won't work or won't meet code restrictions; he values his reputation and won't do something that will "only look good now.") He uses top-grade materials and works in a timely, professional manner. (Unlike some, he doesn't leave your house a wreck while he works which was critical to me while he redid my master bathroom.) Most important to me is that I trust his character; I do not hesitate giving him keys to my house, and I am NOT someone who generally leaves contractors/repair personnel alone in my home. Just as important, I trust him with my dog, Libby; contractors often need to go in/out of your home as they work, so having someone you can trust not to let your pet out inadvertently is important! And he will go that extra mile for his client. When remodeling my bathroom, the vanity I wanted was only available about 90 minutes drive away with no delivery possible, so Mr. Grimmett picked it up! I have a small project coming up (another bathroom!), and Grimmett Contracting is the only contractor I'll contact.

> My association with Dexter Grimmett began in 2005. Grimmett Contracting has done much to make my home beautiful and comfortable. Mr. Grimmett has completely gutted my kitchen, master bath, hall bath, my recreation room in my basement and the bathroom adjacent to my recreaation room. Grimmett Contracting has also moved my laundry room from the basement to my first floor. He created a totally new room off from my kitchen for the laundry room.
> Presentely, he is in the process of remodeling my familyroom.
> Mr. Grimmett is a perfectionest and keeps himself up to date with the latest construction techniques, design and colors.

> We hired Grimmett Contracting to remodel my kitchen. Dexter replaced the cabinets, installed recessed lighting, granite counter tops and a stone backsplash. He also painted and rewired the kitchen putting in new outlets. Dexter even tore down a wall between the kitchen and dining room and made a half wall between the two rooms with cabinets and countertop to open up and tie the rooms together.
> Dexter provided excellent workmanship at a reasonable price. He was easy to work with and listened to our ideas while also offering great recommendations. Before beginning work we were provided with a computerized drawing of the plans so that we could see just what the final product would look like. Dexter was honest, dependable and always just a phone call away. We have relied on him several more times on smaller projects.

> 4.5 stars - nobody's perfect! Dex did a great job on our kitchen redo plus two bathrooms. Was easy to work with, kept jobsite clean, had good ideas and able to adjust on the fly.

> Grimmett Contracting has done work in my current house as well as my last home. Projects from hanging ceiling moulding, closet remodeling, installing a large dog door, to the most recent major project of installing a wood floor in my living room and dining room were completed quickly and professionally. All the work I have ever had done looks great! Grimmett Contracting always cleans up beautifully after they complete the work, and stands behind any of the work completed. I would not hesitate to hire Grimmet Contracting again for any of my home projects.

> We have used Grimmett Contracting for two complete bathroom remodels.
> This included tearout, tile and stone floor installation, tile shower installation, and bathroom fixture / furniture installation (including granite). We would highly recommend him based on cost and quality of the work. Dexter is flexible with change requests and didn't use them as an opportunity to increase charges. If you are looking to work with the person you hire (rather than a string of subcontractors), we would recommend that you consider Grimmett Contracting.

> Dex Grimmett renovated our kitchen, replacing countertop, installing backsplash and appliances, as well as removing wallpaper. He also painted most of our interior rooms. He replaced all the windows and doors (big job!) in our home as well. He was reliable and completed the jobs in a professional and timely manner. I have had Dex come in and complete some smaller jobs as well. Dex has gone above and beyond in helping us personally. We were 1000 miles away from home when our daughter called to let us know that our basement was flooded. We immediately thought of Dex and called him. He came to our home late in the evening and fixed the problem for us. Dex is a professional in all respects and can be trusted to do the job you need. We are grateful to have found Dex and happy to call him a friend!

**Comment from Grimmett Contracting:**

> Thanks Melody and Steve,
> It was a (Big Job) wasn't it ?
> As Far as the flood, I'm glad I could assist.
> Anytime, you need me.
> I do have fantastic customers, it definitely makes it so much easier.
> Thank you ,

> I used Grimmett Contracting for the the complete gutting and renovation of three full bathrooms, each quite different. I was impressed with the expertise and quality of all aspects of the project. Mr. Grimmett has an excellent design sense and a superb handle on what materials are best suited for a room. He went above and beyond to find just the right design for each bathroom, yet was sensitive to my preferences. I highly recommend his services. \[To be fair, his fees were higher than other bids on the project, but well worth it, I believe.\] I would hire Grimmett Contracting in the future.

**Comment from Grimmett Contracting:**

> Thanks Claire,
> This is what I remember from your job, but it was all worth it in the end.
> It is always a delight to have customers like you.

> We needed to remodel two bathrooms and update them with grab bars.
> We selected the tiles but Grimmett Contracting shopped for all other materials and hardware.
> Each job took about 5 days to complete. We appreciated that Grimmett Contracting did the jobs in a timely fashion and cleaned up thoroughly afterwards.

**Comment from Grimmett Contracting:**

> Thank you for the review Mrs. B
> You two are great at calling me back, I appreciate all the work you give me.

> I, was searching for a contractor to remodel my kitchen, but I was too afraid to hire just any contractor due to my bad experiences with contractors in the past. After a few months I came across the Grimmett Contracting web site. I finally decided to contact Grimmet Contracting to do an estimate on my bathroom and kitchen. I was so amazed with his workmanship that I hired him to do multiple jobs around my house, in the bathroom and kitchen areas. Mr. Grimmet has done many jobs around my house in the past several years. He is so trustworthy that I have left him at the house alone without worrying about something happening. I am just surprised at how fast he works. I am more than happy with Mr. Grimett’s great personality, outstanding customer service, quality workmanship, and dedication to his job. I most definitely would highly recommended Mr. Grimmett to anyone and everyone looking for an honest contractor that takes pride in his work.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Help with a Fireplace Wall!!!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hey this is my parents new home. Some of the pictures are when they were about half camping out. They now have some furniture moved in, but not everything. They completely gutted the kitchen and a Bath & 1/2 to make a master. I telling you this so you understand this is NOT the finished product. What can they do with that wall.....without tearing it out. They need some kind of mantle, but above the FP opening is a blower..... I've got some ideas....it the house is not in my town.....I just got the pictures, but there are a lot of good ideas on this site. What do YOU Think?

A: Hi, You can insert rough logs or beams into the stone ( say protruding 12") in various places and put mantles at different levels across the wall. This keeps you from having to locate a huge ,long timber to go wall to wall. Plus by doing different levels, you solve the blower problem. Hope it helps you..

**Q: Designer help needed ASAP please.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Please take a look at the two plans for our ensuite. The first plan shows the sink vanities on an angle with a lowered makeup desk and the second plan shows the sink vanities in a rectangular shape with a lowered makeup desk. Please tell me which design is the best to go with and why. We just can't decide and need your help. Thank you

A: Well, toss around idea having the drawer for were you sit at with a base drawer cabinet at each side at normal height , then the vanity bases for the sinks get higher ones. It should work out for you, then you can solve the problem of one piece. Hope it works out for you.

**Q: What is your opinion of a flat roof on a screened in porch?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

The contractors I have talked to about an addition on my home of a screened porch discourage a flat roof. Because of windows on the second floor of our all brick home, my only other alternative is to reduce the size of a window or eliminate a window completely. I see many pictures of beautiful additions utilizing a flat roof. Why am I being discouraged?

A: I'm against any flat roof if you can avoid it, just due the life of it. In my experience they always have trouble sooner than shingled roofing. Just my opinion...
