BOLAND WOODWORKING focuses on exceptional woodwork using a collaborative team approach. Every custom project, small or large, is the given the same attention. From concept to completion, we work closely with architects, designers, and builders. We focus on a complete custom cabinet package − from the early design stage up to the final cabinet in-stallation. Thanks to our years of design & building experience, each piece is unique; every expectation is met. All shop drawings are done by hand in large format so every step is clear and mapped out. Top priorities for us include communicating clearly and trust, as our many satisfied clients can attest.

In our shop you will see state-of-the-art equipment to cut and prepare material, as well as craftsmen doing benchwork. Hand tools are used daily; hand planes and chisels work alongside of the brand new Austrian sliding table saw. Using the best hardware, lumber, and panel products, all of our pieces are hand-fitted and staged to confirm that final fit. Along with building entire casework packages for the new custom house, we have also provided cabinetry and millwork for many important historical houses in the Philadelphia area. Each and every one of our craftsmen takes great pride in what we make.

Our finishing department is−in my opinion, along with the rest of the Delaware Valleys’−the finest. Our skill in color work is unrivaled, and we use exclusively environmentally-friendly durable finishes combining old world techniques with the latest technologies. Not being tied to one process, we also finish in Tung oils and varnishes for restoration or, by request, on new work. We have restored hundreds of pieces, from 18th-century highboys to just recently a set of 16 chairs by George Nakashima.

With decades of design, building and finishing experience, we will accomplish your vision and execute it professionally.

**★★★★★ — Ashli Mizell Inc., April 2016**

> We have worked with Brian and his team on countless projects ranging in scale from small side tables to built-in cabinetry. The pieces produced by Boland’s shop are masterful. His attention to detail and his dedication to the craft are evident as soon as you handle one of the flawless works.
>
> Brian and his crew never shy away from a challenge. When we ask for unusual designs with unexpected elements, Brian’s answer is always “We can do that.” That may mean more research or experimenting on Brian’s part, but the result is always superb.
>
> However, the main reason we continue to work with Brian exclusively is his overwhelming friendliness. Brian and his crew are always jovial, ready with a smile and a joke. If you have the pleasure to meet Brian and his team, they will surely brighten your day and instill you with a sense of overwhelming confidence.

**★★★★★ — Rasmussen / Su Architects, March 2016**

> Our firm has enjoyed many successful collaborations with Brian and his crew over the past decade. His dedication to his craft, interest and ability in design, technical expertise, and overall professional approach have made him our "go-to guy" for our most challenging projects and demanding clients.
>
> Brian is the "exclusive" fabricator of the custom cabinetry in our own home and office. Our most recent collaboration reinforced my appreciation for his work and approach. His shop is a study in the culture of craft (witnessed 1st-hand during design consults) and his attention to detail unparalleled (witness 1st-hand as installer of his carefully and precisely constructed pieces). He and his co-workers are all pros and a pleasure to work with. We look forward to working on many more successful projects with Brian and his team in the years to come!

**★★★★★ — Kass & Associates, March 2016**

> Kass & Associates has enjoyed working with Brian Boland and Boland Woodworking for over 15 years. The projects have ranged from streamlined contemporary to very traditional, ranging from simple to extremely complex millwork pieces. Boland's woodworking has always been top quality. Brian provides large, detailed shop drawings allowing for refinements that contribute to the success of the work. The level of craft and finish has always been high, along with attention to detail and follow-thru during installation. When you work with Brian you can always count on an enthusiastic collaboration that achieves great results.

**★★★★★ — Lisa Woolbert, Jan. 2015**

> Boland Woodworking recently completed a custom Bar in our Family Room. We met with Brian and his team to describe what we were looking for and he designed the perfect Bar to replicate an Irish Pub. Brian and his team are wonderful to work with. The project came in under budget. The wood and finish are gorgeous. Brian and his team are true craftsman. The team exhibited professionalism during the install process - on time, pleasant to work with, always tidy, and excited to work on the project! We highly recommend Boland Woodworking.

**★★★★★ — Wyant Architecture, Sept. 2014**

> We have had the pleasure of working with Brian Boland on a number of projects over the years, both large and small. Not only is the quality and craft of his finished product impeccable, but because of his attention to detail at the front end (understanding field conditions and design intent, producing comprehensive shop drawings, fabricating finish samples and confirming hardware selections), the process of working together is always smooth, transparent and trouble-free. On every project, Brian becomes a valued member of the project team to the benefit of clients, general contractors and architects alike!

**★★★★★ — raibel, March 2014**

> Boland Woodworking has been doing repair and refinishing for our company and for me personally for over 25 years. On occasion, they have also built new pieces for us as well. I think that the fact that we have almost exclusively worked with Boland for that long says it all. They do very high quality work and are very easy to work with on every level. I can't give them a higher recommendation.

**★★★★★ — Abby Schwartz Associates, LLC, Sept. 2013**

> We have used many cabinet builders over the years and Brian is one of the most professional and knowledgeable that we have encountered and will use over and over in the future. We have had tremendous service with Brian. Not only is he creative, he is hands on with the customer as well as with us and highly detailed. His easy going personality makes the process smooth and enjoyable.

 - Location: Philadelphia, PA
 - Photos: 7
 - Description: We do a lot of restoration of furniture including Period, Victorian, Art Deco and Modern. Of course, we use the proper finishing techniques associated with each period. It's pretty rare to have to refinish 16 chairs of any style. So, I had to photograph these in the shop due to the sheer number of them and when we were done, they were crated up and shipped to Brazil! I couldn't exactly fly down there to get some photos in situ. And, of course, the shop lighting wasn't cooperating. The New Chair…
- [Main Line Mediterranean](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/main-line-mediterranean-pj-vj~344277)
 - Location: Main Line, PA

 - Description: Custom Mediterranean home built in 1915. This house was a solid candidate for full restoration and renovation. We provided all of the new built-ins, casework and millwork throughout. This house is featured in The Vintage House by Hewitt & Bock, 2011. It was a pleasure working with a great team including John Milner Architects and Cherokee Construction.
- [Fairmount Armoire](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/fairmount-armoire-pj-vj~308250)
 - Location: Philadelphia, PA
 - Photos: 5
 - Description: Great long time clients needed an armoire for the new house that would be by the front door. Traditional style capturing the Philadelphia spirit.
- [Villanova Renovation](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/villanova-renovation-pj-vj~304425)
 - Location: Villanova, PA
 - Photos: 4
 - Description: A lot of work was done on this house. A very wide property and rooms were enlarged to accomodate the kitchen design. This kitchen has so much storage and just about every practical interior fit out anyone could want. The bath was a lot of fun to build with half overlay rabbeted fronts and good quality butt hinges. That's a style that custom shops don't often see.
- [Hi Rise Rittenhouse Square](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/hi-rise-rittenhouse-square-pj-vj~304420)
 - Location: Philadlphia, PA
 - Photos: 3
 - Description: Small and a bit cramped unit on the Square. These architects really used every space and we shoehorned in all the casework. There is definitely a nautical feeling or theme here. See living room photo. Sliding doors everywhere, casework in alcoves. Wood and glass wall partitions. All of our work was exacting and tight. Just like on a boat. Rift white oak and walnut.
- [Delancey Street](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/delancey-street-pj-vj~304435)
 - Location: Philadelphia, PA
 - Photos: 3
 - Description: This is a 4 story house with an elevator and a deep lot. We worked on 3 of the floors as it was almost a full gut. Always great street to work on in Philadelphia as all of the houses are finely built. Many of the houses up and down Delancey St. were designed by Frank Furness.
- [Center City Living](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/center-city-living-pj-vj~304400)
 - Location: Philadelphia, PA
 - Photos: 3
 - Description: This is a large 3 story renovation, a full fit out. There was so much more that we built for this project that isn't photographed. More rolling doors, bedroom casework, it was extensive. The two species used were cherry and rift white oak in clear finishes. All of the vneered material used was NAUF--no added formaldehyde--and we used the standard HAPS free finish. As you can see and surmise, no surface was left untouched.
- [Bella Vista Renovation](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/bella-vista-renovation-pj-vj~304412)
 - Location: Philadelphia, PA
 - Photos: 2
 - Description: We supplied all of the wenge casework, wall paneling and an island in the round. Wenge, a tropical timber, also known as African Rosewood, is very dark in color with a distinctive figure, strong & hard, suitable for flooring and staircases. The wood is popular in segmented woodturning because of its dimensional stability and color contrast when mixed with lighter woods such as maple. It was a real challenge for Abby, the architect, to get everything into such tight spaces and it turned out great…
