A: hello. if you are using tile. you could make a cutout on each end wall and on the main wall sit it on top of the wall tile. the continue the tile on top of ledger. make sure tile guys set a slight bevel of at least 1 to 2 degrees for water runoff. thick temper glass makes great shelves and granite or quartz. wood would need to be water proofed. but serves the same and tile over it after it is water proofed. just ideas.
