What color and siding would everyone recommend to make it less of an eyesore? Built in 1985, currently has wood siding that has seen better days, faces south, I despise the color, getting ready to redo the roof, and will pick any color but this one. I also plan to replace the garage doors and gut the landscaping that came with the place. A: Just here to say this is not ugly to me! Just needs a little change of color, and landscaping would help. I would add a tree where the driveway meets the front walk (instead of or in front of the hydrangea). A red japanese maple (not dwarf, something that grows to 15+ ft) would give some vertical interest. **Q: Paint color help!** *(in Paint)* I am building a house and the builder uses Sherwin Williams flat on walls and ceiling, trim and interior doors with a semi-gloss finish. The standard paint choices are the following: Extra White, Creamy, Snowbound, First Star andWindfresh White. I want to have soft White kitchen cabinets. The paint will be the same color for the ceiling, trim and walls. to upgrade to two colors would be a couple of thousand of dollars. I would upgrade if it wasn't flat paint on walls. Please help me decide what whole house paint tp choose. Thank you! A: I have liked to keep the color of my trim and cabinets the same, but opt for a different wall (and a different ceiling) color. I am also a big believer in eggshell finishes for kitchen and baths, as well as all trim and cabinets. I know flat is supposed to be more durable these days, but my (very recent) experience says otherwise. I am not sure why he would charge you more for different colors (same amount of paint??), but I would take the upgrade. Paint is quite important in the feel of a home. Thanks A: If that is a window adjacent to the fridge I would put the TV there and couch on the opposite side to avoid glare from the window on the TV. I would also use a TV cabinet that retracts (up and down, lift style) to allow view out the window. A couple things stuck from other threads I read on Houzz (gardenweb in the day) and have proven invaluable advice in my kitchen rennovation: the hood should be larger than the range and the hood is as important as the range. Do not underestimate the value of ventilation in a kitchen. A 36" range should have a 42" hood. **Q: Prestige Pro-Line High Capacity Hood. Is 30" Too Deep?** *(in Appliances)* After MONTHS of research on vent hoods, I think I've finally decided on a Prestige Pro-Line High Capacity hood. 48" wide and 30" deep with a 1200CFM in-line blower over a 48" BlueStar (4 burners, 24" griddle) range top. Unfortunately I don't have the extra width around the range to go wider on the hood. My problem is, I can't find a picture of a 30" deep hood over a 24" deep range ANYWHERE online. I've done a cardboard mockup of the hood and mounted it and it feels OK, but we don't have cabinets in yet (new build). If anyone has a pic of a setup like this that would be incredibly helpful.
