Since 2004, Dave has been in the construction industry with a couple years in the corporate world. He started out as a hands on redeveloping investor of distressed properties with a focus on homes from the Queen Anne and Colonial Revival periods. These homes presented many challenges with architecture and structure, but the end result was a 100 plus year old home that was completed remodeled inside and out with current electrical, plumbing, heating/ventilation and modern appliances.

> I have several home projects that I have been wanting to start but wasn't sure where or how to start. I contacted Dave at Colorado Basement Company.  I initially talked to him about the idea of converting an open ceiling space in my family room to a extra bedroom.  He was able to help me visualize the idea and then created a 3D picture to show me what it would look like.  Once I saw the design he created, I moved forward and about 2 weeks later, I had a beautiful new bedroom above my family.  He explained how the added bedroom and bathroom would add value to my home and help with resale.

**Q: How do I soundproof a bathroom?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have a guest bathroom right off the living area.  You can hear everything.  There isn't a lot of opportunity for fabric except the small window and I don't want to carpet the floor.  Any suggestions?

A: There are several ways depending on your situation.  1. place insulation in the walls (foam insulation can be applied when drywall is already up).  2. use double sheets of drywall or a better option is to use sound board in place of drywall.  3.  make sure all openings into bathroom are filled or tight with material. 4. use as much sound absorption material (cloth, foam, etc) as possible. **Q: sink  undermount. does cabinet size matter? 30 or 36** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi, im planning to purchase new kitchen cabinets, SINK cabinet either 30" wide or 36" wide.
Im planning on an udnermount sink. does it matter what cabinet size it is?(does it mount to cabinet). Is it possible that a cabinet can be too wide?
i need to decide on cabinet size asap...doe to placement of new window. and id like the window to be alligned with sink.

A: Under mount sinks are available in many sizes and typically mount to the underside of the counter top.  Example.  A 33" sink will be epoxied to the underside of granite and fit within a 36" sink base cabinet.  The sink does not come in contact with the cabinet.

**Q: Our new master bath** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are in the process of finishing our master bath. The color we chose is a slate blue for the walls. Our next project is installing wood floors in the master bedroom. Before we do we would like to paint the room. What color do you think goes with slate blue. I though a light grey. But my husband doesn't like grey for the bedroom. Can you help?

A: Maria!  I would suggest you buy a sample of the colors you are thinking about the paint wall areas around the room.  It's amazing how the colors will change depending on the day.  Also, I noticed plywood on the tub backsplash.  Are you placing tile there?  If so, may want to put Durarock or other water resistance backerboard.  Good luck on the paint and project.

**Q: downstairs family room in Colorado** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I would like to know if most homes are carpeted downstairs or have wood floors due to the cold winters.

A: Carpeting is definitely a warmer feeling but it also stores more dirt and odors.  For either option, make sure you put a vapor barrier down on the concrete floor.  Depending on what the basement will be used for, I often recommend a low grade carpet in the basement.
