The team at BJ Construction consisted of the owner, Justin Fara, a Project Manager, and an Operational Assistant. Overall, the company lacks management and oversight of its employees and subcontractors. The Operational Assistant ended up taking on a larger role due to our project manager's lack of follow-through. Justin told us that our project size and scope would be effortless and straightforward and would take between 4-6 weeks as they do many larger condo remodel projects. Our project took a little over 12 weeks due to our project manager's severe lack of management and the team's complete disregard for the project schedule created by the Operational Assistant. Our Project Manager just didn't communicate with us, but it was clear he didn't communicate with the subcontractors on our project and the Operational Assistant, which caused many construction errors and delays. After construction started, it was made clear that we were not happy with the communication, project progress, and quality of work. We had to talk with the owner, Justin Fara, after there wasn't any improvement after speaking with our Project Manager and Operational Assistant. Ultamently, the conversation with Justin did not help our situation with our Project Manager, and things continued to worsen. We used BJ Construction several times in the past and I get so happy seeing how consistently good they are. Every time they turned around the estimate within 24-48 hours. A few days later, a kind and respectful crew was working at our house. We’ve had a few issues arise, mainly because I tend to be very picky at times. Justin was patient with me, made sure his team fixed the issues to my liking and that the project was exactly where I wanted it when everything was complete. > On the most recent project, they were very busy and booked out for several weeks, but we needed something done ASAP before relatives came in for a holiday. In fact, we decided to remodel two bathrooms, rather than just one, given the confidence he shared with us. Our bathrooms were projected to take 7 weeks to complete. The price was over our intended budget, but again, we had confidence in BJ and Justin, so we decided to proceed. Both bathrooms were gutted, forcing us to move out of our apartment. We got a late start, due to some issues with materials but were assured that the delays would not result in the project being late. > The overall lack of project management and poor communication created a horrible situation. Every deadline that was promised was missed. One deadline promised us a working bathrooom, but when we arrived home we only had a working toilet, no sink, shower or electric completed. The project took over 22 weeks to complete. The apartment was not protected from construction dust and debris, causing damage in rooms outside of the bathroom and dirt though-out the entire unit. We were unable to live in our home for over 4 months. > While Bill, the other owner has been apologetic, Justin has been non responsive at times, even going on vacation for a week and halting the project without letting us know. > I believe BJ lacks experience in doing anything of scale and should be avoided for any project more than handyman service. **Comment from BJ Construction Group:** > BJ Construction Group always encourages our clients to leave reviews. It's something we promote and value, because we stand behind the quality of our work. However, this review comes from a lack of industry knowledge and incomprehension of how much time and detail goes into providing a pristine project. > > There were issues outside the control of BJ Construction Group that caused project delays, and the client was well aware of these: a two-month delay in receiving many of the plumbing fixtures because of a Kohler strike in the fall of 2015, having to accommodate this delay into our very demanding schedule, and the inability to pay their contractor in a timely fashion. The actual construction duration of the bathroom took 12 weeks, however that was spread out over 22 weeks because of issues like these. > > Please see the attached photos, from the finished project, for the high-quality of work that was provided. Every one of our clients is entitled to their review, but that doesn't mean it's honest or accurate. We worked directly with one of the owners and he took all of the work (and stress) out of our hands and really made the whole project so much more achievable than I had ever anticipated. Being the control freak that I am - I touched base with him every day to see where the project was or to provide feedback on progress and he was always quick to respond taking extra time to answer all of my questions without hesitation. I really feel like this company went the extra mile to make sure we were happy in the end, not to mention at a competitive price we could afford!
