**Q: Please help decorating my bedroom** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am trying to update my bedroom in transitional style. Please advice. I have to remove those ugly chairs but not sure what to buy without breaking my bank and how to arrange furniture for sitting area? more photos in comments. I am thinking to add ikea lack console table in front of my bed to hide TV wires and put all devices on it. Also need to add a large ottoman to hide all extra pillows and blanket.

A: Wonderful transformation. Nice color pallet you can enjoy for years. Switching the dresser location with the chairs make perfect sense.

**Q: Furniture for long narrow first floor?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I need help figuring out what kind of seating to get for the living room area of my first floor.  It's entirely open with cathedral ceilings and spans the whole front of the house-- measures 36' long and 13' wide.  In the mock ups below the kitchen is on the right (through that "archway") and there is a huge stone fireplace making up the entire wall next to it.  The opposite side is entirely made up of three 8' tall sliding glass doors.  The door on the left is from the enclosed entryway and is the main way to get into the house so will get a lot of traffic.  
The room looks GREAT empty, but we can't live like that so....   
Living room has to go on the left because dining will go on the right.  TV is going on wall in a built in along with all our movies.  I can't figure out what shape of couch!!  Sectional??  Corner sectional??  Sectional with chaise??  Two smaller couches?  This is driving me crazy!! So crazy I stopped trying to draw it on paper and found a 3D program online (SO helpful).  
In both of these there is a bit more than 3' of walking space on the side of the couches near the fireplace. 
I put in a little desk with a computer because we need to put it somewhere.  Floating in front of the doors is so awkward.
I could design the room like you would in a loft with little areas for different purposes since there are basically no walls, but it's SO NARROW!!!!!!    
Help, please!!

A: The fireplace is such a presence in that long room along with the long wall of windows.  What if you placed your sofa to the right of the fireplace in the L shape that returns on the window side.  The sofa will face the TV.  Place two small accent chairs facing the sofa. The chairs can swivel if you want to use them to watch TV.  Place a library table behind the sofa dividing it from the dining area.  Place comfortable chairs in the area in front of the TV with a coffee table.  Build in the desk in the TV cabinet so that there are no computer or lamp wires exposed in the glass sliders.  You could also fit two apartment sized sofas facing each other perpendicular to the fireplace.  I also love the idea of a round dining table.  It will really soften the long anglular room. My apologies for not having a floor plan drawn up but will get one if this concept appeals to you or if my description is difficult to grasp.

**Q: Seeking living room layout help** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Our living room is long and skinny with a picture window at one end, built in shelves on the other and a large free standing fireplace in the middle. Would love suggestions for room layout. Suggestions for furniture that might work better?

A: You have a wonderful, cozy family room.  May I suggest adding a little color to the room, painting the brick an off-white and installing the TV over the mantel.  Based on your photo I am not sure how one can view your TV in the current location.  The photo below is a concept since there is no fireplace but the addition of color inside the bookcase you have would really pop that area.  Placing the sofa on the far wall and the chairs opposite would open up your space.  Not sure you need the loveseat in this room.  Cover your accent pillows to complement the color you choose for your cabinets using different textures to add interest.  
Below are ideas for painting and organizing your bookcases.  I am guessing you lean toward traditional colors.


But look what this orange color does for this room.


Staying with your current color scheme, painting the brick fireplace a winter white and the inside of your bookshelves black would be stunning.  It would totally transform your room.

**Q: Barn - selecting the perfect black** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We just resided our barn. We want to paint it black (trim same color). Our house will be all white.   Any great shades that some to mind? Has to be paint not stain.

**Q: Kitchen Cabinet Door Help!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I need help finalizing door style for my kitchen renovation. 
I have two sample doors pictured. They are both "shaker" style with some modifications - the one on the left has a "rout" at the seams, the one on the right has no rout, but a beveled edge on the interior. 
The width of the stiles and rails can be modified on either door - the one on the left is currently 2.25" and the one on the right is 2.75". I think the stiles/rails on the right looks so "thick" because of the proportion of the sample door.
They are slightly different colors (both painted white), but I'm leaning towards the "truer" white on the left.
Opinions/preferences/feedback?? Looking for feedback on general style and size of stiles/rails.
FYI - We may be in this home forever or we may need a bigger space in 4-5 years, so while I want the kitchen "I love," I also want something that is likely to appeal to potential buyers down the road.

A: Definitely the simple one on the right (or bottom).  The 2.75" stiles and rails seem fine if your doors are actually a bit larger than the sample.  When searching for pulls consider something sleek.  You did not mention what materials are used for the rest of the kitchen, i.e. counter top, backsplash, but I would think the wow factor should come from those materials and the white cabinets your accent.  Hope that makes sense and helps.
