A one woman business based in Seattle, Trillium Tile is focused on quality and customer satisfaction. Whether you are interested in a simple backsplash, a repair, or a custom mosaic design, owner and artist Liz Tatchell will work with you to find affordable and long lasting solutions for your tiling needs. Her goal is to make the design and installation process smooth, clean, and satisfying! 

Liz has been tiling on her own since 2006. After years of work in the trade, she has come into a style uniquely her own. In 2001, she received her Bachelors of Arts from the University of Washington where she studied ceramics, metal work, printmaking and painting. In 2003, she worked as an apprentice under tile setter Tony DaSilva. After significant travel to West Africa, Europe and South America, she worked under Landscaper Dan Lundquist to learn the exterior hardscape work (2005-2006). Liz is also a mother, a gardener, and an intermittent yogi.
Often incorporating elements of nature in her work, she hopes to encourage respect for nature and all of Earth's creations, people alike!

For years, we have been picking up rocks every trip we took, got buckets of them highlighted to help the colors show through and Liz managed to interpret our thoughts and get them on the fireplace. We put in 13 small rock slices large enough to hold a tea light. It turned out better than we had hoped. She's an amazing artist.

> We were introduced to Liz by Emily Lauderback from Color in Space.  We were looking for a tile design for the landing on our stairs. Liz came up with some very creative ideas but we decided on using a Norwegian Rosemaling plaque hand-painted by my Aunt fifty years ago as the design. Liz enlarged the pattern to fit the landing and pointed us in a couple of directions to find glass that we liked. She worked with our contractor to get the correctly sized board for underneath the mosaic and installed and grouted it in a couple of days. It turned out beautifully (Check it out - it's at the top of her website!). We're hiring her again to install a dry river of rock on our fireplace and to do a small expansion of the flagstone path we installed 15 years ago. We can't recommend her enough.

> Liz tiled a backsplash for my kitchen and did a beautiful job. I chose 4x4 glass tiles from Ambiente European Tile Design, in shades of aqua, jade green and "underwater". The first two were glossy and the third was frosted. Liz created a beautiful irregular pattern, cutting and fitting the tiles behind the sink (a tricky place), around light sockets and switches (three in a row, or I wish they had been in a row, but I didn't move them, and Liz made them look orderly and attractive) and corners. Liz was a joy to work with, very personable and worked efficiently and quickly. I have recommended her to others and I will do so again here.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Tired of messing with my foyer** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Now that my kids are grown up, I don't need carpeted stairs to second floor.  Plan is to pull up the carpet and stain the hardwood underneath to match the edges.  Couple of questions:  1)  The bombe chest is not centered under the stairs because of the mirror.  Should I get a different mirror (this is an antique that once hung with in my in-laws home) or should I leave it as is?  2)  If I leave the bombe chest and the mirror as is, should I put something on the floor in the corner to the left of the chest?  3)  Is the lamp on the chest the correct size?  3)  I am very traditional and need ideas for a chandelier (2 story foyer).  Any other suggestions?  I'm ready to finish this up and move on to my next project!

A: Looking good! I would try hanging the mirror up and to the right, centering the chest and moving the lamp to the left. I like the natural, as opposed to painted, wood on the stairs.
