We live in Michigan so not sure about what trees to plant. A: With so much space in front why not "close it" with a natural 2-3' high hedges around the border of the property. You can then create spaces within for different purposes, including potentially having an outdoor patio. Keep in mind though, the more flora you plant, the more maintenance you'd have to do to keep them up. Mixing it up with a patio, or even creating an area with natural stones would still keep the aesthetic but minimize the maintenance. **Q: Small Awful kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)* We bought this house and my wife loved the kitchen. Don't ask me why? I hated it from the start but I took one for the team. She hated it about 2 months after buying house. Now she wants to renovate it. The theme she likes is Country Chic. We have a recycled barn wood dining table with barn wood benches and an antique hutch that I refinished in antique white in the dining room. Help anybody?? A: Radical idea but fairly affordable: if you remove the wall cabinets entirely and replace them with open shelving you'll open up a lot more area. Painting the other shelves an antique or an off-white color while also going for a tan or light brown wooden counter-top would give it a lot ore of that country look while maintaining a sense of modern elegance. You can then also take advantage of the fact that your kitchen is tall, by adding even more shelving all the way to top (use the top portion for less-used items or decorative pots and pans). The benefits will also be that the shelving will allow more natural light to filter through the window, and a white color would brighten it up.
