### Reviews

**★★★★★ — Sadie Danforth-Brightman, April 2025**

> Marybeth is a fantastic designer and thought partner. She found innovative solutions to our house addition, increasing the functionality and flow. We are so happy as we live into this space. We highly recommend working with her! She’s organized and a great communicator.

**★★★★★ — Nan Guilmette, March 2020**

> Mary Beth did a wonderful job designing our addition. We have a tricky site on the side of a mountain with lots of constraints. Mary Beth was able to listen to our vision, work within those site constraints, and create a design that not only added more living space, but also brought in lots of natural light. Plus, her easy demeanor and sense of humor maker her great to work with!

**★★★★★ — Geoff Nelson, Feb. 2020**

> We were very pleased with Mary Beth's efforts and ideas with our addition to a historic stone home. She developed creative and practical solutions and communicated well throughout the process.

**★★★★★ — Susan Goldstein, Feb. 2020**

> I renovated part of my house last fall. There were some tricky parts to the renovation and MB Architecture was exactly what I needed to provide the new vision for my home. Highly innovative, creative and a real gem to work with. I highly recommend MB Architecture for all parts of any project you might be considering.

**★★★★★ — Linda Emmons, Dec. 2017**

> We worked with Mary Beth during this past year to design a house. We first contacted her through email and knew instantly from her warm response that she was going to be a good fit for us. Mary Beth is incredibly knowledgeable and creative, but she is also very down-to-earth, a good listener, practical, and always kept our design and building budget in mind. Mary Beth was truly a pleasure to work with and we love the beautiful design that she created for us!

**★★★★★ — howell97, Nov. 2017**

> MaryBeth Stilwell was great to work with. She had innumerable architectural ideas and efficiency considerations that helped us arrive at a gorgeous and functional addition to our home. She is practical yet passionate about her projects. Couldn't recommend her highly enough.

**★★★★★ — Elizabeth Nelson, Nov. 2017**

> Years prior, we had hired MaryBeth Stilwell to redesign a mudroom. She did a great job with that so when we decided to add a new kitchen we hired MaryBeth again.
>
> My husband and I enjoyed working with MaryBeth. She was efficient, on time and full of good ideas. We especially liked the way she navigated the conversations between my husband and myself- conversations that had the potential to be testy. Her drawings were well thought out, her lighting ideas were spot on and when we had questions about choices we had to make, she was full of ideas (most often accompanied by visual examples). MaryBeth also worked well with our builder.
>
> Overall, this was a pleasant and successful experience!

**★★★★★ — Peter Gregory, Nov. 2016**

> Mary Beth Stilwell served as the architect for an almost two-year project (fall 2013-spring 2015) that began as a modest renovation and ended up being a major rebuild. She did a wonderful job of modernizing a 200-year-old New England farmhouse while maintaining its historic style, designing entirely new kitchen, door and window trim, baseboards, fireplace and mantel, stairway, built-ins, cabinets, etc., while preserving the period look. In reconfiguring the floor space, she was particularly creative at figuring out how to make the most out of small spaces so that they would serve multiple purposes. She had an excellent working relationship with the builder, and she always did her best to implement the needs and desires of the owners. The project could never have achieved the extraordinary overall success that it did without her skill, creativity, and patience. I am happy to recommend her to anyone for whom quality is a premium.

**★★★★★ — mamasquirrel, Nov. 2015**

> We enjoyed working with Mary Beth, and we love the addition that she designed for us! We found her to be an excellent listener and she really understood our needs, desires, and restrictions. She was great at communicating her ideas as well as distilling our choices to simplify decision making. Mary Beth was committed to keeping our project within our budget and she had a good sense of what was feasible in terms of the construction. The spaces that she designed are efficient and comfortable, and the addition itself is beautiful. It fits and compliments our original home, our yard, and our neighborhood. We would certainly hire her again if we ever had another project.

**★★★★★ — lincolngap, Nov. 2015**

> I worked with Mary Beth Stillwell of mbarchitecture and design from July 2014 through September 2015. Mary Beth worked with me to design my new farmhouse. She understood exactly what I wanted and was able to incorporate my ideas with her intuition of my personality and needs. For instance, I wanted a fun space for my grandchildren to sleep. They now have a cozy bunkroom with beds for up to 8 (including 4 pull out trundles) with a dutch door to a balcony overlooking the living room. As I was giving up a 150 year old farmhouse, she encouraged me to re-purpose some of the features: built-in cabinet, closet doors, butcher block, etc. By scouring salvage stores and yards, I was able to come up with more repurposed materials, which worked with her design details.
>
> Mary Beth is very easy to work with and immensely thorough in her work. She walked me through every detail, checked in weekly with upcoming plans and work to be done, was a perfect liason with the contractor, making sure work was going smoothly. In other words, she made this process as low stress as possible for me.
>
> Though everywhere I look I remember our work together, Mary Beth has slipped away, leaving me with a beautiful, new house which is quickly becoming a comfortable home for myself and my extended family.

**★★★★★ — Silver Maple Construction LLC, Jan. 2015**

> We recently had the good fortune to work with Mary Beth on a custom new home we built in Lincoln, Vermont. For both the client and us Mary Beth did a stellar job of streamlining the design and decision making process. Her design talent speaks for itself but it warrants mention that she designed a cost effective, gorgeous and tailor made house for our client that will certainly stand the test of time.

**★★★★★ — victoriablewer, June 2013**

> Marybeth was quick, insightful and very professional, not to mention she is very talented at what she does. I would definitely recommend her and use he her again.

  - Description: The key to the design of this new home was finding the answer to this challenge: how to create a space that will be comfortable for one but can be expanded to be comfortable for many. Framing the surrounding views of Mt. Abraham to the east and the bucolic town of Lincoln to the west, while also capturing as much natural light & solar gain as possible, were just a few of the other exciting challenges of the project.

  - Location: Burlington, VT

  - Description: This historic home in the Five Sisters neighborhood of the South End of Burlington has served this family of 5 well. But a family with three young children needs room to grow & gather. The addition will give the family a large gathering space for living & dining as well as a much needed mudroom & 1st floor bathroom. Besides giving the family more space, it will hopefully help maintain the home as the "go to" place for all the neighborhood children.

  - Description: Nestled in a cove in Hawkin's Bay on Lake Champlain, a small cottage is being built. The owners wanted a kitchen that was simple yet elegant; a kitchen whose cabinets could blend in with the rest of the house so as not to overpower the small living space yet whose island was a piece of furniture that made a statement.

  - Description: This beautiful traditional Vermont vernacular farmhouse was designed with the idea of single level living, with the ability to open up and expand the home’s second floor when family and guests are visiting. The bunk room and loft looking down on the living room were designed as a perfect kids hideaway. We built the custom kitchen based on how the homeowners live and cook. All of the built-ins were custom built in our shop. We brought in touches of the old home; such as using pieces of the old st…
