> My wife and I were in the need of a front door, back door, two storm doors and visited their showroom in Summit. We were greeted by a very nice customer service rep who set us up with an appointment to meet a salesman at our residence. We already had an idea what we wanted from visiting their showroom.

Through the miracle of AI, he was able to show us how the doors would look on our residence once they were installed. We surprised the salesman and placed the order on the spot. He arranged for a person to come out and measure and several weeks later, we had our doors installed. The installation crew was so meticulous and thorough and made sure we were completely happy. They cleaned up nicely and were a pleasure to deal with. I wanted to buy them lunch but they wouldn't accept it.

> Cons: Very bad after service support and planning. I had a broken window (at the time of their installataion) and a need for changing the moulding on a couple of windows. It took them over 4 months to get the day scheduled (and this was not because of product delay) and even after that they werent prepared for the job, there was overall confusion from the guy who comes in to do the job vs the person i talk to on the phone. Pathetic display of customer service. All their promise about windows support post installation goes out the windows for me. I will use another service for the rest of my house now.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Replacing light carpet with wood floor.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I would like to replace my 2nd floor carpet with wood floors.  Im worried it will be too dark because all my trim is wood. I really don't want to paint all trim white. Any thoughts

A: The American Walnut in this picture would look perfect in that space!

**Q: Floors** *(in Photo Questions)*

What color stain as used here? Were these floors originally lighter?

A: We used a stain called Provincial made by DuraSeal over red oak unfinished floors.

Here is a photo from the same house without the provincial stain.

**Q: Can I repair my kitchen floor?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We found the original 1920 pine floor under layers of linoleum and had them refinished. However, the boards are breaking and there are gaps between some of them that act as magnets for crumbs to accumulate. Is it possible to repair them or do I have to get a whole new floor?

A: A good refinishing company will trowel fill those gaps before applying finish making the finished floor look seamless.

**Q: Wood floors** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are redoing our living room floors and my husband is suggesting a different stain for the wood floors. When you enter our house, the stairs are to the right they are natural stain wood floors. Then you have the white tile floor next to the stairs that lead into the kitchen and to the left you have the open living room/dining room layout that we are possibly thinking of a darker stain wood floor. I'm trying to visualize the natural wood and dark stain wood.. I'm afraid it's too different when you enter the house .. Ideas/suggestions/pictures??

A: SCC Interiors is correct. General rule is to keep staircase and floors the same color for consistency.

**Q: Hardwood flooring/stains advice** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are replacing our flooring to solid hardwood. We like a wider look and a darker finish. 

Specifically, we brought samples of PG Model Maple with semi-gloss in Chocolatero. 

I've been reading a lot on here that it will be high maintenance. 

I'd love some advice to help us consider as we are changing the entire downstairs to wood.

**Q: Need help with OPEN CONCEPT HOME** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I recently purchased the Martha Stewart Saybridge Chesterfield Sofa and loveseat from Macy's in Bella Coffee. My wall color is Sand Motif and I have yet to re-finish my floors which will match the rests of the house in English Chestnut. I need help with my overall design - from accent chair, rug, coffee table to wall accents, etc. 

I have the Pottery Barn Eagan mirror - the over-sized one in storage and I am not sure if it will work above the sofa. The sofa faces the fire place and my space in the living room is very limited. 

I am attaching one photograph of the living room -- please forgive the low quality as it was taken on my crappy phone.

A: English Chestnut is my favorite stain color! Your floors have nice variation which makes the stain color much more impressive IMO. Hire a professional refinishing company to get started on that project. It will dramatically change the look of the rooms.
