**★★★★★ — Shirley Lee Routledge, Jan. 2016**

> Hired Calgary Stucco and Stone for an Exterior renovation in Calgary. We were thinking of selling but decided to modernize our exterior instead. We were very pleased with ideas the owner provided. We thought the pricing to be very good for the quality of the work. We had new acrylic stucco applied and some stone work as well. We get many compliments on our house now and just love it! We believe it has added great value to our home.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Drip edge not the right colour** *(in Design Dilemma)*

The roofers installed the wrong colour drip edge on our new roof. It is pure white versus a more subtle white. Our siding, fascia, and soffits are going to be a more subtle white (classic grey - see below). It is still a very light white/grey colour but do you think that one pure white drip edge strip along the edge of the of the black roof is going to be a problem? Should I change my whole colour scheme and go to a more pure white everywhere. The siding will be board and batten painted cedar and the trim around the windows will be the exact same colour as the siding.

A: Once your gutters go on the drip edge will not be visable anymore so it should not be a problem. If you really do want to colour match it... painting it is an option. Google a reputable paint supplier in your area and they can usually custom match and load spray paint cans for an easy application.

Just be sure if you do spray it you prep your roof out well as its easy to over spray. The white paint will show on the shingles very easily!

Good luck with the rest of your exterior.

**Q: Should I keep the wrought iron?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I just purchased this home and I'm not sure if I should keep all or part of wrought iron or replace iron on front porch with columns? I'm also thinking about painting the brick but would love advice.

A: Pro tips:

Hi, Im an exterior designer from Calgary.

I design and renovate exteriors for a living.

You have an arts and crafts style house the wrought iron railing is not congruent with your style of home. It should be removed to restore it to its original glory or modified.

Your brick should not be painted! but a good tip that most people dont know is that you can soda blast your brick to restore it instead of painting. A local sandblasting company in your area will be able to help you do this.

If you want to update the rail affordably you could also modify it by removing the fancier details with a grinder and painting it all. It all depends on your budget of course.

I feel like there is too much white incorperated in the scheme. I would paint your dormers, shutters and front door a heritage colour. Something classic and suttle. This will create a warmer inviting feeling that the entrace way is missing due to the over use of white.

Good luck with your Renovation!

Attached is a photo of a current project where my client chose to preserve there reclaimed brick. The rendering shows our intended final vision. We do digital renderings for our clients so you can change things on the computer before you start swinging hammers! Maybe this is something you should consider before you proceed. I hope this post was helpful.
