Walls were removed to create an open-concept and the footprint altered to maximize storage space. The project included the installation of a full bathroom and presented some challenges related to working around trusses to insulate a vaulted ceiling in the bedroom. At the outset, Voss Builders gave us a very detailed assessment of, and estimates for, the work that would be involved to create the space we wanted, including alternatives for some of the challenging aspects and openly discussed the pros and cons of different approaches with us. After interviewing several local G.C.s, I hired Peter with Voss Builders as my design build contractor. He was the natural choice because of his easy-going/friendly personality, professionalism, knowledge and enthusiasm for this challenging project. Being in a flood zone and subject to the FEMA 50% rule meant that the renovation scope and contract value of the project would have restrictions. Peter’s guidance was critical in getting the property re-appraised to maximize improvement values as well as navigating the complex FEMA permit requirements in conjunction with the city building department. Peter is very detail oriented and organized, attributes crucial for any construction project. I was very pleased with the final product and am looking forward to entertaining guests at my new beach home! Peter would be the first call I would make for any future renovations. This included a large tub, small pedestal sink and commode with a storage closet. Our goal was to optimize the existing footprint with modern finishes, but at the same time, maintain the historic feel of the home. We were given a suggestion for a frameless shower, which turned out to be magnificent, as it allowed a small bathroom to receive more light from an existing window. In turn, it showcased the white subway tile, and the 1930's feel of the white and black hex block flooring throughout the bathroom. The shower fits perfectly in the space allowed, and it allows free flowing movement around the room. With the expansion of a dual sink vanity with marble top, white finishes, and large mirror, it created a larger functional surface area for a two-person household. A pocket door on one end, allows the master suite easy access to the bathroom, as well as the door leading to the center hallway. We were confident that the original design was going to materialize into something functional and beautiful. We had several meetings with Mr. Voss to discuss the project timelines and to add any updates that we wanted. All of these were carried out in a timely manner. He was professional, prompt and knowledgeable and it was a pleasure working with him and his team. We would highly recommend him. **Comment from Voss Builders:** > Thanks so much Nanette.
