"Concept to completion"...we are a small boutique custom design and installation company. We have a APLD certified in-house designer that will work with you to give you the best possible options for your property.

Our vision — is to design and create a unique and personal landscape environment that draws you out of doors and connects you with the beauty of nature. Once there you will find yourself in a garden where you can relax, play or entertain and restore your spirit!

We believe an effective landscaping project begins below the ground, with great soil, irrigation and effective drainage. Understanding the conditions beneath the ground will help guide the selection and installation of plant materials.

We design by incorporating existing plants, structures, architectural style, hydro-zones, sun hours per day and the client’s expressed desires. Then we begin to compose a composition that has unity, balance, interest, harmony and movement! We look at the existing color pallet and ways to enhance and compliment it using color, contrast, form and texture! We welcome collaboration and feedback as this is meant to be a fluid process with the most satisfying results.

If you would like a hands on team that is highly trained, certified and licensed, to do your entire landscaping project, we can do that for you! > I cannot say enough positive things about our experience with Ravenscourt, Shawn, Laurin and the team. They took our sad yard and turned it into the backyard of our dreams. They installed drainage, sprinklers and fully designed and overhauled our yard. I’ll take you through the process and why it was so great -
>
> We started with home shows and reading reviews and reached out to three different companies. We met one face to face at a home show, they didn’t respond after. Another came out to our home, took some photos and came back a week later with an uninspired design and a sprinkler quote that was 3x larger than Ravenscourt. Shawn came out to our home, took photos and we made a small payment for a design proposal. When it was ready, Shawn and Laurin had my wife and I to their home and walked us through their vision for the yard. Laurin put so much thought into every detail, it was clear they genuinely cared about making this yard special for us. There was no pressure, just excitement, and you could see how passionate they are about what they do.
>
> Once the work started, Shawn explained the process step by step, introduced the team, and they got to it. The crew was there every morning, ready to go, and if bad weather delayed things, Shawn was on top of it and let us know right away. Throughout the project, he checked in regularly to see how we felt about the progress. If we had questions or ideas, he was always happy to listen and explain things. Honestly, having Shawn stop by with updates was probably one of the highlights of my day during the whole process.
>
> From start to finish, the project took about 7-8 weeks. The transformation was incredible. Since then, we’ve had friends over who can’t stop raving about how great the yard looks. I even caught a couple of people sneaking photos!.
>
> Shawn, Laurin, and their team are talented, professional, and just all-around great people to work with. If you’re thinking about upgrading your yard, don’t waste your time with anyone else. You’ll be so glad you went with them!

**Comment from Ravenscourt Landscaping and Design LLC:**

> Hi Jimmy thank you for taking the time to write the review and sharing the nice progress shots. The lawn is looking fantastic. We do take great pleasure in knowing that our clients enjoy living in our creations. Our best to Newman.

**★★★★★ — Sydney Suttor, Nov. 2024**

> We collaborated with our neighbors on using Ravenscourt for a ditch revitalization project after two of us had each hired them to do our backyards. The design and the results turned out beautifully, especially now that the plants are fully established. Working with Shawn is really easy. He’s incredibly knowledgeable and has a great team.

**★★★★★ — Houston Flooring Professionals, July 2024**

> I was thoroughly impressed by Ravenscourt Landscaping and Design LLC throughout the installation process. They listened carefully to our ideas and executed them flawlessly. I highly recommend them for anyone seeking top-notch landscaping services.

**★★★★★ — charandderek, March 2024**

> This is an extremely delayed review as Ravenscourt helped us with our backyard project last March 2023, but I had to make sure to come and share what an incredible team they are. From the beginning, Shawn and Laurin were so thorough and intentional. They took our requests and came back with a beautiful design that was even better than what we imagined. Their crew works so efficiently, and we were able to enjoy our new space within the week. Even a year later, our garden is a space we frequent and enjoy, whereas before, we rarely stepped into it at all. Shawn and Laurin are amazing to work with and have the utmost respect for the environment and nature. I would definitely recommend Ravenscourt for any sort of garden design in Houston.

**Comment from Ravenscourt Landscaping and Design LLC:**

> Thank you so much. We enjoyed creating a space you would enjoy. Seems your dog loves it too!

**★★★★★ — paige deshong, Dec. 2022**

> Ravenscourt transformed my backyard into a light and lush sanctuary. It was a decaying 80’s style pool and cracked concrete wasteland. Now it’s on its way to a lush retreat. My favorite additions of their’s are the structural works—a cedar front porch (sturdy with good design), cedar back steps with a railing (both appealing and safe), and a number of steel, large planter boxes which give the space structure and beauty + a vegetable garden. Their team of workers were professional and never left a mess. Also they worked everyday until the job was done. Shawn and Laurin make a great team. The work they did is sound, beautiful and will be lasting. PS. Last photo is a “before” pic.

**Comment from Ravenscourt Landscaping and Design LLC:**

> Thank you Paige! It was fun to work with you and making your visions come true.

**★★★★★ — Matthew Mallay, Dec. 2022**

> We are so grateful for the work Laurin, Shawn, and the entire crew at Ravenscourt have done to transform our sad neglected mud pit into the garden of our dreams. We knew we were in good hands the moment we met them and they delivered on every measure from start to finish. We are happy to give them the highest recommendation to anyone looking for a thoughtful and transformative garden design + install from a talented team of professionals, they earned it. What a wonderful company. Thank you.

**Comment from Ravenscourt Landscaping and Design LLC:**

> Thank you! We have enjoyed working with you and making your poolscape inviting. We will post photos soon.

**★★★★★ — HU-508019626, July 2022**

> We chose Ravenscourt because it was clear they understood plants and the Houston environment, giving us tips on plant maintenance before we even selected them.
>
> Trust in the process and their design experience! The design was what we didn’t know we wanted. The crews were fast and efficient.

**Comment from Ravenscourt Landscaping and Design LLC:**

> Thank you for the good and useful review. We love to make lovely gardens and to be of service. If you have any questions in the future please let us know.

**★★★★★ — Sydney Suttor, June 2022**

> Could not rate Ravenscourt more highly. We are in love with how the project turned out. We have big windows looking out to the yard and it is now the highlight of the entire house! Laurin is a design genius and understood exactly what we were looking for right from the first consult. Shawn was communicative, professional, and absolutely wonderful to work with every step of the way. We are especially pleased with their environmentally-conscious approach. Don’t hesitate to hire Ravenscourt!

**Comment from Ravenscourt Landscaping and Design LLC:**

> Thank you for the great review. We really enjoyed working with you. Looking forward to seeing the hanging chairs and BBQ installed. Enjoy your private oasis.

> This was our 2nd project with Laurin and Shawn and we are just as thrilled as the first. They are very knowledgeable and helped us transform our space. We have a relaxing, beautiful courtyard that we can enjoy. I would definitely recommend them to anyone and will use them again in the future!

**★★★★★ — Heather Buchanan, Nov. 2021**

> Sean and Laurin did a fantastic job with our landscaping. They listened to our needs and delivered! Not only that, but their team was courteous, they communicated what was happening throughout the project and cleaned up after everyday that they were at my home. I have suggested Ravenscourt to several friends and neighbors knowing that they are in good hands. Thank you Ravenscourt!

**Comment from Ravenscourt Landscaping and Design LLC:**

> Thank you! We enjoyed working with you and helping turn your back garden into an family oasis. How are the chickens enjoying the space?

**★ — Cynthia, Sept. 2021**

> I rarely if ever do negative reviews because I do not want to harm a small business, but I felt it was necessary to provide a review of the work done for us by Ravenscourt. Two years ago they designed and built a wood patio with planters for our small yard and exterior wood doors to screen a side storage area, along with landscaping. We love the design, but within a week of completion we began to have issues. Immediately, several wood planks that splintered, and the doors to the side area were too heavy for the plastic hinges and could not be opened. I showed the doors to Shawn on his last visit and he told me there was nothing they could do (we have since had the doors rebuilt and with steel hinges). Shawn’s team replaced several splintering planks on the deck within 60 days of completion.
>
> Since that time, the wood patio and planters have continued to split and crack and some pieces have rotted all the way through (see photos). The tops of the planters and planks are warped and uneven and when it rains, there is standing water. We emailed Shawn this June with photos and he responded “I have not seen our decking decay in such a quick time. I do not know for sure why there is rot.” Although we have attempted to discuss this with him on numerous occasions, he has since been non-responsive. The cost of the cedar wood and installation was $13,000—for wood that is obviously defective.
>
> In addition to the rotting wood, other problems include every few months we fill the planters with a significant amount of soil since the planters are open at the bottom and the soil leaks out. The drip lines that they installed within the planters no longer work and are jutting out at the top of the planters – most likely due to the continued movement of the soil.
>
> We understand if there is no warranty, but we would expect that Ravenscourt would at least respond and provide us with some options. We were expecting more from this company.

**Comment from Ravenscourt Landscaping and Design LLC:**

> Cynthia, we are sorry you are having issues with your deck. We have never had this issue with a cedar deck in 12 years we have been installing them. We do let clients know that sealants and stains can weaken the integrity of cedar. We recommend letting it breath and age naturally. We can not warranty decking because of Houston's varied and damp climate. That has always been our policy. As you said we came out early on and replaced planks.
> We have been overwhelmed this year between the deep freeze and the pandemic, plant shortages and unavailable materials. We apologize for not getting back to you this summer when you wrote. It was on our list.
> \- Laurin

> We worked with Laurin & Shawn to completely transform our small townhome backyard to a wonderful, inviting New Orleans courtyard inspired outdoor space. I really enjoyed the process of working with Ravenscourt and seeing their plan & drawing of their vision for the space & what it could be!! I couldn’t articulate exactly what I wanted and I know zero about plants but in our meetings & discussions, they really delivered!!! We are enjoying the space immensely!

A creek bed, also called an arroyo, is a shallow bed filled with gravel, boulders and stones of various sizes. And then planted with plants that are fine with wet and dry conditions. During rainy weather runoff water is channeled down the stream bed towards an outlet or collection place where the water can percolate down into the soil. This helps prevent pools of water or soggy…

## Community Q&A

**Q: What is the purpose of the wire grid?** *(in Photo Questions)*

At first I thought it was for trellising but there does not seem to be any planting space in front of the wire.
Is it just regular plywood behind the wire grid? How do you protect it from the weather?

A: Hi Adriana. The trellis is mounted on a fence. There's space between the trellis and the fence for the vine (planted in ground) to grow/wind through. Additionally there's the ability for the client to plant in the near-beds if they wanted to train edibles upward. This project is near the gulf coast (Zone 9a). The vine(s) would be ones that either weather our winters or will return after the cold snap.

**Q: outdoor HVAC/AC fence** *(in Photo Questions)*

Who built and installed your hvac fence?

A: We designed and built the enclosure as part of the backyard design.

Who built and installed your AC fence?

A: That is our design and construction. If you look through our projects we do all our own carpentry and brick work.

First, what's at the bottom of the bed? I have the perfect spot for one of these, but our native soil is riddled with bugs so I'm brainstorming a way to avoid any contact between ground and bed. Also, would this work on a concrete slab or would it have drainage issues? Thanks

A: Nothing. You could use two layers of weed barrier. You need good drainage. So not on slab.

**Q: how is the cable attached to the fence** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: A cedar 2x4 is attached to the fence. A welded wire panel (hog or cattle panel) is attached to that and then another cedar 2x4 is put on top to sandwich it in. It is very sturdy. We want the panels away from the fence to the vine has room to grow in and out. You can get the welded wire panels at farm supply stores. We get ours from American Fence and Supply in League City Texas.

**Q: Love this gate. Care to share details?** *(in Photo Questions)*

We have a VERY rustic version of this fence on our back deck and now we would like to add a gate to keep our dogs in at times. But we would really like the gate to be this refined. How is the metal panel secured into the gate frame??? We just love it. Thanks so much. Sam and Sarah.

A: The gate is welded wire cut to size needed and sandwiched in between cedar. Standard gate construction. Hardware from Home Depot.
