Washtenaw Woodwrights has been helping Ann Arbor area homeowners realize their remodeling dreams since its founding by Bruce Curtis in 1983. Our goal is to make your home remodeling experience a satisfying one by providing distinct design solutions, outstanding craftsmanship, and attentive client service.

We are a full service design-build residential remodeling company. We take on the entire project — from kitchen design to installation, from conceptual interior alternations to whole house interior renovations. We do it all so that nothing gets lost in the translation from design to construction. From start to finish, we strive to make the process of home transformation as worry-free as possible for you.

Over the years, we've earned a solid reputation for our distinctive results and trustworthy work. Our clients often tell us how much they appreciate our personalized attention, our design insight, our commitment to clear and ongoing communication, and our attention to detail.

For 14 years we operated from a kitchen and bath showroom on South Main Street in Ann Arbor. In 2017, we downsized into a more appropriate boutique/office space at 4127 Jackson Road in Ann Arbor. We still feature kitchen displays, a conference room, and a collection of samples from cabinets to countertops to flooring, to tile and many other things.

We recycle, and we respect and honor this planet that provides us with so much abundance.

**★★★★★ — healing2015, Sept. 2020**

> Bruce and his talented team did a wonderful job remodeling the kitchen. They were open to using new materials for the island counter, and found professionals who had newly learned how to work with the material. Bruce listens, understands, and then designs. Working with Washtenaw Woodwrights was a thoroughly delightful, and creative experience. The kitchen looks, and feels wonderful. Thank you Bruce!

> I have used Bruce Curtis of Washtenaw Woodwrights for three projects in my own home and supervised one project for the Laurel Gardens Condominium Association. In all of these projects the work was of the highest quality, good design and within expected costs. Bruce listens to and works with the homeowner and his design reflects that person's personality. He is patient and direct in his answers. He knows his materials, his sub contractors, the housing codes, He respects the homeowner's privacy.

**★★★★★ — P Carson, June 2019**

> It was a positive experience to work with the professionals at Washtenaw Woodwrights. The lead craftsman is very knowledgable, intelligent, and detailed oriented which helps produce a quality product.

**★★★★ — Frost Hubbard, May 2017**

> I wholeheartedly recommend Bruce Curtis and Washtenaw Woodrights. What impressed my wife and I most about Bruce was the time he took to meet and get to know us. We knew that we wanted to finish our basement and do something near the the entrance from our attached garage to better organize all of the things our family was bringing into the house from the outside. Bruce patiently met with us multiple times and presented many different options and iterations before we finally came to the final design. We finally settled on a design in the basement and cubbies upstairs. Bruce's estimated costs were nearly spot on. We didn't have a cost overrun of any sort. During the construction process, Bruce met with us weekly to make sure we were all on the same page, which really helped things run smoothly. With one minor exception, all of the trades that came to our home were considerate and good with young kids, which was important to us since we have two kids under the age of 6.

**★★★★★ — Martha Kinney-Sedgwick, April 2017**

> I am pleased to give Washtenaw Woodwrights my highest recomomendation. In 2005, we did an extensive remodel of our house complete with a two story addition. The work included a remodel of our kitchen and family room, installation of new flooring throughout the downstairs and the construction of a two story addition which included a mud room, full bath, and den with fireplace on the first floor and a master suite on the second. Bruce Curtis and his crew from Washtenaw Woodwrights were the contractors. My husband and I were extremely pleased with the results. Bruce and his project manager met with us weekly to give us project updates. The work was outstanding and the project came in on budget and on time. The remodeled house was on a tour the following spring. In 2008, we used Washtenaw Woodwrights to remodel our son's bedroom, study and bath. Once again, the quality of the work was outstanding and the job was done on budget and on time. Bruce was very personable and easy to deal with as were various crew members. I would not hesistate to hire them again.

**★★★★★ — jpmeddaugh, March 2017**

> Washtenaw Woodwrights remodeled half of our kitchen. The design blended well with our existing kitchen. At the same time a second floor laundry was installed. The owner, Bruce Curtis, was easy to work with and listened to both our design thoughts and concerns. The subcontractors were excellent. We would recommend Washtenaw Woodwrights for any remodeling need.

- [Pantry Conversion to Contemporary Kitchen](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/pantry-conversion-to-contemporary-kitchen-pj-vj~767908)
  - Location: Ann Arbor, MI
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: Homeowners wanted cabinets, counters, and bar sink in place of pantry closet. We decided to create a complementary design instead of trying to match previous cabinets and counters from a decade ago. Our achieved result: a rich, dark-cherry finish with stunning copper dune quartzite counters and stacked stone multi-colored tile backsplash.
- [Drab Kitchen Brought to Life](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/drab-kitchen-brought-to-life-pj-vj~767900)
  - Location: Ann Arbor, MI
  - Photos: 18
  - Description: Old out-dated west-side Ann Arbor kitchen with dark painted cabinets was revitalized with Holiday Kitchens painted soft yellow cabinets alongside light maple stained cabinets all unified by mocha glaze topping. New layout improves floor plan by adding accessible niche cabinetry and re-located half-bath and closet. Veined Zodiaq quartz counter top is accentuated by subway tiles with glass tile accents and mosaic tile rooster detail above the range.
- [Modern transformation of a bland subdivision kitchen](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/modern-transformation-of-a-bland-subdivision-kitchen-pj-vj~767895)
  - Location: Ann Arbor, MI
  - Photos: 12
  - Description: This home was built in the 80's with a typical subdivision oak kitchen. It was transformed into a stylish modern eco-friendly kitchen and dining area. The original kitchen layout had to go, as you will see in the before photos. Customer desired finishes included formaldehyde free Euro-style cabinets, no VOC paints, recycled glass, backsplash tile, LED lighting, and pre-finished oak flooring.

- [Stylish update of traditional kitchen](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/stylish-update-of-traditional-kitchen-pj-vj~767903)
  - Location: Ann Arbor, MI
  - Photos: 14
  - Description: This home is a 1924 bungalow with Craftsman elements, but it had barely been touched or updated over the years. The kitchen was pretty dysfunctional and needed a major makeover. The stove was in a niche all by itself. We wanted to add a screen porch on the back with a door from the kitchen. The original 5' long cast iron kitchen sink with drainboards was really cool, but the whole thing was too long, and the sink was only 6" deep, so it couldn't be kept. The best elements of the kitchen were the…
- [60's Kitchen Transformation](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/60-s-kitchen-transformation-pj-vj~767898)
  - Location: Ann Arbor, MI
  - Photos: 14
  - Description: Kitchen with difficult corner space improved with new layout. Cherry cabinets with flush doors, Virginia Mist granite, color coordinated cork tile flooring, updated lighting, and LED under cabinet lights. A stone tile backsplash with angle power strips completes the design details. The wall between the dining room and kitchen was opened up, and the door was removed to improve access and sight lines to the kitchen.
- [Classic older home kitchen renovation](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/classic-older-home-kitchen-renovation-pj-vj~767893)
  - Location: Ann Arbor, MI
  - Photos: 5
  - Description: the kitchen layout wasn't changed much, but there were many subtle improvements. The fridge didn't fit properly under the wall cabinets. The peninsula counter was flared out to provide counter seating. The overhead lighting was improved- especially with the addition of pendants over the peninsula. The garbage disposal now has an air switch on the counter- no more confusing the light switch with the disposal switch. The old red vinyl tile was removed, and replaced with new 3/4" thick solid red oa…
- [Bungalow bathrooms](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/bungalow-bathrooms-pj-vj~767906)
  - Location: Ann Arbor, MI
  - Photos: 3
  - Description: These bathrooms are both from the same house labeled "Stylish update of traditional kitchen" listed above. The main bath is on the 2nd floor. The first floor bath is a bath with a shower, all wedged into a small space that used to be a large closet
- [Dramatic lighted hickory staircase](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/dramatic-lighted-hickory-staircase-pj-vj~5745337)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 4
  - Description: This staircase replaces an old carpeted stair to a lower level. The entire staircase was taken apart down to the stringer framing. It has new solid natural prefinished treads and risers, hickory plywood that covers the original stringers, and solid hickory trim. The flooring at the landing is also 3/4" thick solid prefinished natural hickory flooring. The railing at the top replaces an old half-wall. The railing is custom made from solid hickory 4x4 posts and 2x cross rails, with 3/8" tempered c…
