The different parts of the house were treated as pavilions, each with its own distinctive roof form. The exterior walls are clad in fieldstone, and the roof is cedar shakes. A fabulous chef's kitchen expands upward two floors to a large skylight. Sited on a hill in Dutchess County NY, the house is designed as a series of pavilions that slide past one another to capture the wonderful views across the property. A pool and pergola extend the house’s spirit out into the landscape. The loft came with great bones: a concrete floor, high ceilings, and shallow barrel-vaulted ceiling. The main level was transformed into a modernist composition of crisp sculptural forms. The stone-clad base appears to grow from the granite ledge of the hill, forming a plinth for the sliding doors, cedar walls, and copper roofs. The house has large windows to take advantage of the stunning Hudson River view to the south and west.
