If you buy slabs from them, I highly recommend you have someone else do the fabrication and install. > Stone Source did extensive damage to our custom cabinets when they installed the island countertop (over $1,000 in damage) and will not pay for the damage because according to my salesperson, "In the signed contract, it states that Stone Source is not liable for damage to cabinets as it is a construction site and you are acting as your own general contractor. I spoke with the team and unfortunately Stone Source cannot cover the charges." > > The contract said "Care will be exercised during installation & removal of counters; however scrapes, punctures, or digs to wall surfaces are possible, as are scratches & scrapes to cabinetry & appliances, and construction dust. These are considered incidental damages & are the customer's responsibility to repair." I saw this in the contract prior to install and asked my salesperson about this and she said not to worry about it because they never damage the counters. I think over $1,000 in cabinet damage is more than incidental and very unprofessional! In addition, they had to come out 3 times (so far) to fix the seam where the pieces of quartzite meet. The silicone, or whatever they use, keeps coming out and leaving a hole between the pieces. The background \- Fabricator created template and cut to template \- When counters were delivered, they didn't fit correctly at the seam, so fabricator took the granite outside and recut with tools on site \- New cut was rough and jaggy so he fixed with epoxy The result We're left with a seam (about 1/4 inch) but it is rough to the touch and prominently placed (between the range and the front of the counter). My question Given there were a few mistakes made by the fabricator -- first the template measurement mistake and then the rough cut to address the bad first cut, I'd like him to make this right. A few questions: 1\. Should he replace the counter top over for this? 2\. If not, what is a reasonable discount to receive? A: I would agree with Presidio - many situations call for granite to be trimmed on site to get the best fit, and also many stones do chip easily. Having fill is a part of getting a natural stone. The stone pictured here is White Macaubus and Black Pearl Silk. **Q: Small bathroom redo** *(in Design Dilemma)* I have a very small bathroom and I am updating the finishes. The base cabinet is a dark cherry and we're sticking with that, but the brass shower surround on the glass doors is going to be painted (at least, I'm going to try!) and we're replacing the counter/sink/floor. Here's the question: I'm going to go with a very light granite counter (basically white with flecks of gray and black) and a 12X12 tile floor (not yet picked out). I don't want it busy or cluttered. Should I go with the 4" granite up the wall behind the sink, or choose a muted glass tile of some sort? And would glass tile, granite counter and a ceramic tile floor all be too much? Shower doors are frosted, so you can't see into the shower. A: One of our designs is very similar to what you are looking at. The design is primarily white with the cherry cabinetry. They used marble, but light granite would also look nice. Because you are working with a small space, we would recommend using a backsplash that would be very similar in tone to your granite and floortile, or extending the granite up as the backplash. That way, your design will remain cohesive. The following images are similar to the design you described. Here is an image of the backsplash and counters being the same material.
