Are the ever available with a top down/ bottom up feature like the HD pleated/honeycomb shades? Is there a visible battery/transformer pack when motorized? How is that mounted? Thank you!! A: Hello, and thanks for your interest. Unfortunately, I don't know of any manufacturers that offer a roller shade with the top-down feature. Many have tried, but encountered inconsistent performance and reliability. You should explore "flat fold" Vignette shades, which offer top-down and are probably the closest to the clean look of a roller shade if the right fabrics are chosen. Battery packs can be concealed behind the head rail if enough depth is available, or is attached inside the window framing and hardly visible in many cases. Shades are always mounted with special brackets, whether inside or outside mounted. In this clients home, they were 'outside' mounted to give the best coverage for blocking the sun, heat and UV. I absolutely love it and plan to anchor the femininity a bit with a big brown sectional we have against the wall. This room has quite a few windows and I am wondering what kind of fabric, pattern or color I should get? I am thinking either a sheer or a geometric of types to contrast. Also thinking about area rug? A: You don't mention what kind of window treatments you particularly like, and the most important factor is if you need privacy and light control in those windows? If neither of those things is an issue (which would be a rarity), then you might consider sheer Hunter Douglas Duette honeycomb shades. If privacy and/or light control are important, then look at Hunter Douglas Silhouette, Pirouette or Nantucket. This will give you complete control over light, heat, and privacy, as well as help insulate the windows as well. Oh? And did I mention how beautiful they are, and that you'd likely find a very unique color to enhance your floral feature wall as well? These are Lutron solar shades that are installed into the metal mullion in these large windows. If you look at some of my other project photos, you will see Hunter Douglas solar shades (in all white) mounted into the sheet metal mullion of a covered porch, just as you are asking about. Both of these installations have motorized shades, thus you have no cords or chains hanging down. Shades are raised and lowered via a remote control, wall switch, or both. A good installer knows the proper screws to use to mount shades into metal surfaces.
