The project included the addition of a master bedroom and bathroom, replacing the second floor windows, adding a maintenance free exterior and composite cedar shake siding to the upper level of the house, and roofing the house and the garage. Bartelt designer, Mary Sweet exceeded our expectations with her creativity and efficient use of space. Through the use of pocket doors, built in cabinets and vaulted ceilings, the smart design incorporated all of our requests while creating an incredible space that remains true to the original craftsman detail of the main level of our home. The Bartelt team was extremely organized and respectful of our time, through the selection process, bidding process, and scheduling meetings with contractors as the renovation progressed. The Bartelt Team offered options when they saw an opportunity for improvement during the course of the renovation, and kept the project on schedule as the various contractors worked together to address change orders. The project started as scheduled, the project time line moved smoothly, and final completion was within the established time frame. Bartelt managed every detail of the project and always kept us in the loop regarding what to expect each week. For the whole project I only had 3 down days where a sub wasn’t on site. Everything was well planned out and the project went like clockwork. All of my concerns and questions were handled in an expedient manor. The work preformed was all top quality. About 6 months after the project was completed there were some mechanical items that failed and needed to be replaced. The failure was a manufactures problem and not an installation issue but Bartelt took care of the problem quickly. This was another reason for paying extra you get a company that will take care of you even after the work is done and the final payment has been made. Matt listened to our needs, dreams and expectations very attentively. He returned shortly with preliminary drawings and a virtual reality tour via his computer. We were overwhelmed by his attention to detail as well as his listening skills. He then successfully incorporated everything we asked for and more into a final proposal. We agreed to a price, signed the contract, sealed the deal and a building permit was secured. > This project involved destruction of existing rooms before construction could begin. This was completed without issue and passed all inspections. Every construction step was carefully planned and executed to finite detail. Every step was inspected and approved. > Our master suite is composed of the following elements: Large walk in closets, custom made built in dressers, large linen closet, complete bathroom with tiled floor, large mirrored custom vanity and a shower with bench and glass doors. > The wood work is all oak and mirrors the existing architectural features of the existing home. The floor is the original fur pine that was there when the house was built. The project was completed ahead of schedule and on budget. Mary Sweet designed an extremely functional kitchen in which it is a pleasure to prepare food, dine, and work. But it is also a very attractive space, using warm colors and durable materials. We had a beautiful 1884 house in a great location but it had been converted to apartments and had a lot of original wiring and plumbing. We wanted to convert it back to a great lake house. The architect helped us design a great new floor plan that maximized the home's assets and included some unique special features that we wanted. They reinforced floors, walls and windows and replaced wiring, plumbing and woodwork. They essentially built a new interior that was stunning and yet maintained the style of the house. They also renovated an enclosed porch and an exterior porch that allowed us to make the most of the lake view. > > Bartelt started on time and stayed very close to the promised timeline. Weekly construction meetings were very helpful for keeping communication flowing and answering questions. The project manager and office manager were very responsive and helpful. The rough carpenters were fantastic - doing a great job and cleaning up every night. We had some additional costs because we decided to improve certain items as we uncovered hidden problems. Bartelt always did a good job of explaining our options. Their finish carpenter was a magician with the way that he installed the millwork and customized so many areas. The designer helped with suggestions for finishing touches that met our style preferences but also worked well with the style of the house. The overall experience was so much less stressful than we expected and actually very enjoyable. The entire staff was very professional and fun to work with.
