## Selected projects

- [Sunset Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/sunset-residence-pj-vj~84850)
  - Location: Santa Monica, CA
  - Photos: 24
  - Description: The landscape of this project is composed of a layered system of sustainable plants. Sited on a parallelogram, the house and the site produce two geometries that inform the system of layering. A terrace with concrete pavers is planted with aloes, and is the base of a set of stairs that is covered with Korean grass to create a sculptural green element, extending the axis of the house to an upper terrace with ocean views. With a palate of ornamental grasses, succulents, gravel and boulders, the la…
- [Point Dume Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/point-dume-residence-pj-vj~84769)
  - Location: Malibu, CA
  - Photos: 23
  - Description: A diverse palate of sustainable plants is used to create distinct moments throughout a large site with expansive views. Highlighted in this palate are South African plants that relate to the owner’s interest in the region. Aloes, ornamental grasses and succulents populate the yard, with a rock garden courtyard that houses the owner’s sculpture. The patio and custom concrete elements work with the landscape to extend the geometries of the house, envisioned to create a synergy between the exterior…
- [Santa Monica Canyon Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/santa-monica-canyon-residence-pj-vj~84799)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: The client’s desire for the landscape of this house was to create an austere, modern atmosphere, which we accomplished by using a minimal palate and clean linear elements. The amphitheater in the front courtyard is part of a highly composed entry sequence that relates to the geometry of the house and its skylight. Descending from street level, the perspective views of the house are enhanced by the calculated narrative of the pathway. Layers of greens and grey create the color palate, while stepp…
- [Birch Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/birch-residence-pj-vj~749614)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA

  - Description: A modern garden for a landmark residence.
- [Venice Beach House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/venice-beach-house-pj-vj~6185193)

- [Sunset Park Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/sunset-park-residence-pj-vj~84826)
  - Location: Santa Monica, CA
  - Photos: 13
  - Description: This landscape project encompasses the front yard and approach to the house in a more public setting as well as a private, serene backyard garden. The plant types are layered in front of the house as the path slopes up towards the entry. Groundcovers, gravel and grasses are interspersed, with figural plants such as aloe and agave puncturing the field of lower elements. In the back, an amphitheater sits within the tranquil garden. Within the steps, tufts of Korean Grass form a softer stair. The s…
- [Mandeville Canyon Pool](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/mandeville-canyon-pool-pj-vj~84766)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 2
  - Description: The design of this custom infinity pool works to compliment the geometry of the house, while enhancing the house’s views. The shape relates to the horizontality of the house, and the orientation is such to reflect the towering trees. As the pool extends the view into the yard, the infinity edge defines the edge of the landscape. - [Glen Oaks Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/glen-oaks-residence-pj-vj~84735)
  - Location: Pasadena, CA
  - Photos: 5
  - Description: A path composed of logs inlaid into a steel grid extends outward toward the vast Los Angeles view in this landscape project. Complimenting the long pool adjacent to it, the path adds to the feeling of elongation that enhances the perspective of the view. A succulent field of aloe and agave fills the sinuous profile of a new garden on the other side of the path, while the undulating form of the garden edge compliments the straight axes of the path and pool.
- [Topanga Canyon Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/topanga-canyon-residence-pj-vj~84879)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 4
  - Description: The site for this house in Topanga Canyon is remote with vast views of the hillside and ocean beyond. The wild canyon inspires the landscape design here, which is rugged and feels untamed, yet is rationally composed. Concrete pavers surround the pool, with ornamental grasses filling the gaps and overflowing their defined area to blur the pavers’ edges. The rectilinear elements of the pavers and the pool are softened and absorbed into the surrounding landscape, allowing the house to relate to and…

- [Keep Off the Grass](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/keep-off-the-grass-pj-vj~84741)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 11
  - Description: The ubiquitous, manufactured lawn was the subject of this installation at SCI Arc, exploring our cultural relationship to that thin plane of suburban carpet. By suspending 1000 square feet of sod from the ceiling as a thin, warped plane, the inherent dichotomy of the sod’s organic and artificial nature is made poignantly clear. The exposed structure of the installation is contrasted by the natural deterioration of the grass as it was intentionally not watered over the course of the eight-week ex…

## Community Q&A

**Q: can you share the hood** *(in Photo Questions)*

Beautiful kitchen !! Looking todo something similar .. can you please share which hood you used?

A: Hi Emily, thank you! Unfortunately the hood we used is no longer available. It was an under cabinet glide-out range hood, I'm sure you can find a similar one at AJ Madison.

**Q: What material was used for shaping the sod between the rocks?** *(in Photo Questions)*

There is a metal material that flows with the sod. What is this and where can it be purchased?

A: Steel edging

**Q: The Korean Grass KP@ Richfield Farm** *(in Photo Questions)*

Is this Korean Grass ( what is it's botanical name?) conducive to light traffic, does it require full sun or can it tolerate some shade? What are its watering requirements as well as soil requirements? Thank you.

A: Yes, its korean grass or Zoysia Tenufolia. Light traffic is ok, & it has medium water needs.

**Q: Waterline** *(in Photo Questions)*

Which tile brand, size and color did you use for the waterline, under the coping? And which pool finish did you use?
Thank you.

A: Pool finish was a medium grey pool plaster and the tile matched that. We wanted the pool to look like the color of the ocean.

**Q: Pool and spa dimensions** *(in Photo Questions)*

Do you know dimensions of pool and spa?

Thank you

A: We don't recall.

**Q: What species of grass is it? Does it brown out in winter?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Zoysia tenuifolia- Korean Grass - it needs water to stay green.
