### Reviews

**★★★★★ — Loretta Hutchinson, June 2022**

> Clare is terrific to work with! While I was hesitant how the remote design process would unfold, I found Clare to be thoughtful, exacting and diligent. She is a master space planner and her design suggestions are creative and functional. We have completed most of the main areas in my home and are currently working on a den and office. I highly recommend.

**Comment from CDR Design, LLC:**

> Loretta, thanks so much for your kind words! It was my pleasure to help transform all of your spaces into the functional, yet beautiful rooms they should be! You already own such quality pieces and it's been wonderful to be able to use those furnishings with an updated twist! You are a pleasure to work with!!

**★★★★★ — Kim, April 2021**

> The changes she has made it my home is way beyond my expectations..
> I never imagined my house could feel so much better and more functional , more updated and less crowded.
> My project started as one room and we have now done 3 more rooms and I’m sure i will keep using Clare with the other rooms that need updating..
> Clare is passionate in what she does, very responsive, great eye in design and decorating!!
> I never imagined this process would be such a great success in making my home more Beautiful!!
> Thank you Clare

**Comment from CDR Design, LLC:**

> Thanks so much! I am humbled by your words.
>
> Updating a home, while incorporating treasured heirlooms is often a challenge. But, at the same time, it is so rewarding to see those items in a different light. I love that your home now feels uncluttered, but "you."
>

> A day or two ago you asked me how I like the process. I like it very much. Over the years I have spent numerous attempts and dollars trying to achieve this. I am astounded at your ability to approach changes along with any things the customer needs to face from such positive angles. An example of this is how you brought up the organization and elimination of so much stuff in my space. Your kindness is evident when you tell me lack of organization is a very common problem, you will help me with it, and even ask whether I would like help step by step or all in one lump. Your excellence, thoroughness and speed demonstrate your passion. But what's really cool is you let me share in on your passion and it becomes ours.
> Your design software worked well for selecting a table color. After you showed me all three in my space I found I like the grey-green best. Thank you for showing me the differences. I love this process. It's just like someone came with a truck and brought all 3 tables for me to try.
> Things ARE really coming together like you say. I feel like it's all downhill on my bike now and I just have to coast until I turn into my driveway. I know there is busy work ahead putting deliveries in place. Thanks to your knowledge I can trust things aren't going to clash or not fit. I already see it in its completion and it's magnificent. Just what I hoped for all these years only so much much more. My hat is off to you.

**Comment from CDR Design, LLC:**

> Thank you so much for all of your kind feedback!! I love your "downhill on my bike" analogy. What you don't mention is your amazing talent of quilting, sewing and upholstering, just to name a few. That has allowed your living room to morph into the ultimate "custom" project. I am honored to be a part of this now beautiful space!

**★★★★★ — Zach Latham, Nov. 2019**

> The best designer. Great selections, easy to work with and very responsive. I am very happy with all the designs she did for me. I would HIGHLY recommend.

**Comment from CDR Design, LLC:**

> Thanks so much for taking the time to review me, Zach! I greatly appreciate your generous words. It has been such a pleasure collaborating with you on your living room. I really appreciate your follow-through and can't wait to see your space come together. I look forward to designing your next space! Thanks again.

**★★★★★ — Natalie Merchant, July 2019**

> I wish I had found Clare three years ago when we started doing our house renovations! What I couldn't seem to accomplish in three years, she accomplished in about a month! If I had her help from the beginning I would have saved COUNTLESS hours of internet searching, buying/trying/returning, and second guessing. She was able to take my living room (a jumbled mix of styles) and turn it into "a fresh, modern, space with a casual, light, "worlds-away" feel." Those were her words to me in my final design rationale which is exactly what I wanted but couldn't seem to figure out on my own. Clare is one of a kind in that she encompasses the same passion and eagerness about a project that her clients feel. She is extremely articulate in her reasoning behind every new positioning of an existing couch/rug/table as well as the new items she thinks would look best in your space. Clare is kind, thoughtful, smart, and incredibly knowledgeable about all things design including certain trends that may soon be gone and those that are there to stay. She will leave no stone unturned in order to create a room that her client will love. I have a large sectional that I had to keep and she showed me multiple ways to position it (including taking out a few pieces) until we found the perfect one. I have referred her to my family and friends and am now working with her on another project. She is thoughtful, creative, timely, respectful, patient, passionate about her work, reasonably priced, but best of all, she makes her clients feel that they are \#1. I cannot say enough good things about Clare. If you are at all second guessing yourself on designing a room or choosing products or need help figuring out the style you want your space to have...do not hesitate to contact Clare. She will take all of the guesswork away and in the end will hand you a room or space that you never thought was possible along with all the hours you saved by working with her. And, btw, I found her b/c she commented on a question I posted on Houzz. I was so impressed by her answer and the small tweaks she told me to make on my room (which I never would have thought of but were spot on) that I knew I had to work with her in order to get this room over the finish line. I RECOMMEND CLARE 110%!!!

**Comment from CDR Design, LLC:**

> Natalie, thanks so much for taking the time to write such gleaming words. I am truly humbled. As it has been such a pleasure to work with you, I almost feel guilty for calling it "work". With the vintage charm of your home and quality furnishings you already owned, that made the process even easier.

> We hired Clare at cdr design to help us design a home theatre in our house. She did an absolutely exceptional job! She was very patient with us as we worked through all of the decisions in regard to furniture, colors, etc. The room looks fantastic, we constantly get comments from our friends and family on how great it looks. I definitely recommend using her services-it was well worth the money!

> I have received enormous help from CDR Design in many rooms of my home as well as when working with my daughter in her home. This help has ranged for choosing single items with valuable suggestions of specific items from specific stores, complete room makeovers, paint color selections, furniture arrangement and choices, and decluttering. CDR Design has also helped me with light fixture scale and selections. She presents her suggestions in a very organized, prioritized and understandable way. She's delightful to work with and my home has been beautifully transformed as a result of her help.

**Comment from CDR Design, LLC:**

> Ann, thank you for the kind words. It has been my pleasure to assist you in transforming your spaces. Your attention to detail and willingness to declutter a room shines through. Thank you for including a photo of your dining room. It makes me smile every time I see it.

**★★★★★ — adpowers7, June 2016**

> I have worked with Clare on two projects - a complete overhaul of our living room, and a smaller project in our kitchen. During both of these, she was thoughtful, patient, and encouraged me to think a little bigger in order to create rooms that I love (not just rooms that will do for a while). I have learned a lot from her; I now know more about my style and how to create coherent rooms. She even gave me some tips on adjoining rooms so they'll flow better with our new space. I also appreciate that she allowed us to move at our own pace during the projects. We have gotten lots of compliments, and I'm confident that we'll be asking for her help in other rooms in the future.

**Comment from CDR Design, LLC:**

> Thanks so much for your kind comments! This proved to be such a fun project, honoring the era of your home, while also infusing modern elements. I admire your courage to think creatively and boldly. I am so glad to hear you learned in the process. I would love to work with you again.

> What can I say about Clare. She gave me advice on my bedroom, and wow, I absolutely love it! I found her patient, understanding on what could/could not change, and flexible within it. My "dark cave" was transformed into a beautiful space. She convinced me to go creams with grey, but introduced textures, lighting and reflective surfaces, which gives the room light and a luxurious feel. And kept within a budget I could afford. I would highly recommend Clare to anyone. Thank you very much again x

**Comment from CDR Design, LLC:**

> Thanks so much, Candace! It really was a pleasure helping you transform your bedroom from "dark cave" to light, airy and luxurious. It was a fun project! I hope you are enjoying the room!

## Community Q&A

**Q: Will I regret not adding a prep sink?** *(in Building a Home)*

We would love some advice here. Should we add a prep sink to our island? If so- where and how big? And then also where should we put the trash bin in relation to the prep sink? Right now our trash bin is on the corner of the island closest to the main sink.
We are so hesitant on adding the prep sink because we have always pictured the island being a completely blank slate. I’m also concerned that the prep sink area will just be another place that gets dirty/cluttered. I’ve never liked islands that have the sink in the middle and so i’m having a hard time imagining why I would give up the blank island for one with a prep sink. I also find it weird not to have a soap dispenser with the prep sink…but then adding a soap dispenser truly makes it a place where dirty dishes can pile up?
We are torn. We would appreciate some guidance from this community! We need to make a decision by early this week as our foundation has already started.

A: https://www.homedepot.com/p/BOCCHI-Baveno-Move-Single-Handle-Telescopic-Standard-Kitchen-Faucet-in-Stainless-Steel-2030-0001-SS/325305873

https://www.bocchiusa.com/baveno-27-with-covers-2-hole-faucet-setting-hideaway-undermountdrop-in-sink-27-with-covers-1633-001-0132-p

If you want the best of both worlds, you can by the bocchi telescoping faucet and bocchi undermount sink. They also sell covers, but I would look into seeing in the fabricators could create a custom cover for you.

**Q: Countertops & cabinet doors colors do not match** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi everyone..
I chose white IKEA Ringhult cabinet doors for my small & windowless kitchen because I wanted it to look as clean and bright as possible.
Then I planned to keep the tone of the hardware as stainless steel, matte silver, or brushed nickel. That’s because I was going to replace the stove and refrigerator with stainless steel ones, and most importantly, the railing of the stairs right next to my kitchen is matte silver.
So I have already installed the faucet, light fixture, and range hood, and IKEA Billsbro door handles(not installed, just sitting on the doors for now).
But I didn't think about the tone of the new quartz countertop. After installation, the countertop looks too warm-beige, and the cabinet doors look too cool-white to me.
Is there a way I can neutralize this difference? Can the floor, backsplash, or door handles help them blend better together?
I already picked the floor(Lifeproof Dusk Cherry LVP), backsplash (white, grey, silver mix), and door handles(stainless steel) but I'm willing to change them if anythhing can improve the look.
I appreciate any advice... Thank you.

A: Suggest you bring the actual products into your kitchen. Sample of flooring and backsplash.

From what I can tell, the flooring would likely work, but need to see a photo of the backsplash, preferably in your kitchen.

**Q: Are track lights outdated?** *(in Home Decorating)*

I am trying to get good light in a dark, North facing den/office/tv room with one little window. There are currently two tracks, l-shaped, with 5 good-sized lights form th 80's, which throw great light in this room, but are there more modern alternatives? Thanks everybody.

A: Can you show us a photo? Many would say track lighting is off-trend. However, in my opinion, they can look sleek and minimal, even if installed in the 80's.

Thanks.

**Q: What can we do to make this less wonky??** *(in Design Dilemma)*

This is a weird corner that we need some input on. The design was originally to have the cabinet and shelves completely flush left. However, due to the location of the light switches we didn't want the counter to end and the backsplash to end mid-way across the switches. So we centered the cabinet and shelves between the wall and the door opening. We will be using filler to the left of the shelves and cabinets. It still looks off. With the countertop placed and secured, I don't think we can do much. Any ideas? Or does it not look wonky at all? Many thanks, Becky

A: Your original question was "what to do to make it less wonky." There were ways to make it less wonky.
But making it look good: I would start over. Take out cabinet and move to left, Move outlets. Counter needs to sit up to or behind wall. Tile.
Always have a total plan before starting. Otherwise, this is what happens.
You'll have a fish tank there? I think it is an odd place for one and then negates the backsplash.
You can buy a blue fridge if
1\) You will never tire of it
2\) You will tire of it, but have the funds to replace it when you tire of it.
3\) You aren't planning on selling before the frig dies.

ditto with tile

**Q: Formula for Pendant Placement Over Table** *(in Lighting)*

Hello! I am wanting to replace a dated "bird cage style" pendant light over the table in the dining area of our family room. The table is 42" by 72" and seats 6 comfortably. I am currently considering the Folk Abigail Soft Cone Pendant from Rejuvenation. I am thinking of getting two of them. The dilemma I have is whether I should get two at 10" wide or 15" wide and, depending on which size I get, is there a formula as to the spacing between each pendant and how to center them over the table? In other words, should there be 10 inches or 15 inches on either side of set of lights (over the table) and how many inches apart should the lights themselves be? I hope my question is clear. Alternatively, should I just go for one that is 15" wide?
Thank you so much for your help. I do appreciate it!

Edited to add - Has anyone had experience ordering lighting from Rejuvenation? I have ordered a kitchen flush mount schoolhouse light from them in the past and was happy with the product and service, but reviews lately, are pretty bad. Makes me hesitant to spend so much on a couple of pendants now... What do you think?

A: I would not use one dome pendant light. The appropriate light is really something linear. I would buy something in the range or 47-54" wide. If you like the look of dome lights, you could buy one with 2 pendants on one unit. Those are common in black, but not in an off-white color.

I would need a photo of your space to actually make a recommendation.

**Q: stuck ! what do I do from here ?** *(in Home Decorating)*

10 x 14 rug. Do I put two swivels on one side and a leather accent chair on the other ? Or balance it with a large leather accent chair on each side ?

A: Once you decide on floor plan, I recommend deciding what your style/color palette will be. You do have some photos in your ideabook. Do those reflect how you want this space to feel overall?

Thanks!
