We also spent alot of money on an installation of new hardwood floors and the refinishing of existing hardwoods. We found them to be slow to respond to calls and what should have been an 8 week project stretched out to 16 weeks. Many weeks they didn't even show up. Their workmanship on the flooring of the vinyl planks in the basement was shoddy-there was no proper prep of subfloor and very poor installation which has led to continual problems. They came out a couple times to try to fix the problem but didn't address the main issue of improper floor prep and the floor is worse now than ever. They were unresponsive to repeated attempts to correct this situation. The tiles are coming up all over the floor and it will have to be completely redone. Upstairs, the hardwoods were also finished improperly. Polyurethane was applied improperly and started to peel up. Their solution was to come and try to apply more polyurethane over the peeling mess. Instead of redoing them, they tried to cheap out and do it the wrong way. Again, they stopped returning calls after the "year" warranty period. Do not use this company. They are slow to respond and do the bare minimum with shoddy workmanship. I would recommend them to anyone. Honest, detailed orientated and excellent craftsmanship would describe Clauss Construction. **★★★ — ralph\_e\_spinelli, Nov. 2015** > Clauss Construction built a second story addition onto my vacation home in the Poconos. It was a project that I tried to manage from 150 miles away and at times was a challenge. Overall, the workmanship was great but scheduling was a nightmare. Incident after incident was encountered where we were told something was going to be completed on a schedule and it wasn't. The project started approximately 10 weeks after the projected start and 7 weeks after the permit was issued due to a delay in the framers availability. I visited the job after the first week only to find the LVL (main support) approximately 2 feet below where it should have been. Actually had to duck under it. Clauss quickly rectified the problem once I discovered it but it made me question the ability of the framers that were selected. We also had an issue where a large amount of rain water got into the house in an area that wasn't under construction and it was only discovered by my wife and I. It resulted in Clauss having to replace the carpet, a chair and re-sheetrock a portion of the room. Although they rectified everything to my satisfaction, I was disappointed that I had to find by coming up one weekend this and not them coming to me to proactively let me know this occurred The room was likely in that condition for weeks. When there was a problem Pete was very responsive in getting it rectified and was also very diligent in asking me to maintain a punch list so that he could have his team react to everything on my list. Also, Heath the initial employee who sold me the job was excellent but not really involved throughout the remainder of the process. Again, the biggest issue was scheduling. I also had a scenario where there was work they were doing to insulate my crawlspace. I made a trip up to the house (150 miles!!) specifically to be present when this work was going to get done. I called Pete the day before to ensure everything was scheduled so that I didn't make the trip up unnecessarily. I was told it was scheduled and all was good. Guess what...the sub-contractor got tied up on a job from the previous day and canceled the day he was scheduled to do my job. Basically a wasted trip. > I emptied my house in June of 2014, in preparation for this job to start in mid-July. After some issues with the plans to get the permit, the permit was issued in early August. The job started at the start of October, was mostly completed April 2015 and not 100% complete until June 2015. > Again, great workmanship; scheduling was a nightmare, and based on some things that were encountered, I questioned why I didn't know about issues more proactively. **Comment from Clauss Construction:** > As a company we make it a priority to offer the highest quality of customer service and are very regretful for the delay in starting due to the framer having to reschedule in our busy fall season, unfortunately due to the permitting process taking longer than projected. Despite the initial delays we were able to get everyone back on track and acquired the certificate of occupancy before Christmas but did have to wait until May to finish exterior work due to a harsh winter. On one side a sun porch with two walk in closets and a basement beneath. On the other side a garage and office on the middle level with a game room above, and a laundry room with a half bath below. New windows were added in the main house to connect the areas. We were given wonderful designs ideas, the workmen where very cooperative and treated it as they would their own house. The worksite was always clean at the end of the day so we were comfortable living through the construction. We have recommended the company and would be more than glad to do so again.
