I was actually going to just purchase stand-alone 3 seat bar, but contacted SMKB. Anthony came over and I gave him my basic crude idea. He drew up plans that exceeded my expectations to say the least, and even installed plumbing to accommodate the bar sink. That has since become the primary place to socialize when family or friends come to visit, and it's pretty much turned that section of my basement into a type of lounge area not only saving me money in the long run (from buying alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks out in town) but also having a comfortable area clean area where everyone is absolutely at ease and a short distance from home. I was particularly impressed with the person who did the tile job, as I had wall to wall carpeting in the basement. He did the entire area where the bar is and some design features in one day by himself (on a Saturday to boot to accommodate my schedule). We had a few companies place bids on the job. We ended up going with southern Maryland Kitchen Floors and design. We liked the product being presented to us and we are suckers for buying local. (to the point where we were paying almost 50% more by going local though the product was a little better). The initial meeting with Anthony went well, he took measurements and then he came up with a design. We met in the store and got a price for what we wanted done. We negotiated a little and signed a contract. It was to be a 5 day installation. I was told they would not start until they had every item. He set an initial date in February but the products were not in by this point so the date was moved to march. > The installers worked on the closet and things were slowly going up. I noticed them having to measure and remeasure because everything was cut on site. Come day 4 of installation they stopped. I thought they were done early but it turns out they were missing some pieces. I am not talking a shelf or two, I am talking something like 25+ shelves, tie racks, belt racks, hamper pieces including the baskets themselves and a major cabinet piece of the closet. So much for not starting until they have most of their materials. On top of all this, surprise cost time. The price given to me did not include the supports for the clothes rods (something you think would be essential to the design) At this point the project is still going along so I did not grumble much about it. They apologize for the missing pieces and say they fired someone who was responsible (Hate to see that happen to someone but that is their business) > At this point all my wives and my clothes are out of the closet as it is unusable. We are told that the pieces should be in after a couple weeks. I take off time when they say they are coming for installation and they only come with a few parts here and there as I have to plan my days around when they come. There are 3-4 days of arriving with pieces for this closet (each time being told they are bringing everything, I am starting to believe it was not the person they fired). > Fast forward almost couple months with our unusable closet and they finally get majority of the missing pieces and install them. To my dismay I am still missing 15+ shelves. I can thankfully use my closet so our room isn't cluttered with stuff that goes into the closet but I am still annoyed. They have the nerve to ask for final payment before the project is finished. > Fast forward to end of June. They bring materials for shelves and cut them and. they are still short 5 shelves. They ask for final payment again and I have to keep telling them until the project is complete I am not paying them the final payment. Anthony tells me to plan for them to come with the rest of the pieces on the weekend of July 4th. I tell him we will schedule when he is sure he has all the rest of the pieces. > Fast Forward to September. Anthony tells me he has the rest of the materials. I tell him this whole logistical nightmare was terrible and that I will talk to my wife (who was upset at this whole thing by now) I get back to him in October and say we want a discount for the project for the inconvenience which he initially scoffs at because some of the shelves in question were "free" shelves that were part of the negotiation. I told him they got the contract because of the negotiation. > Sick of Anthony at this point I leave a message for another manager. Don't hear back so i call back in January 2015 (a year has passed). She said I lied about calling called (even though my phone records show I did) and that its my fault this project is not done. I tell them I will bring by a shelf of the same size to be cut because after being called a liar they aren't allowed in my house. I pick up the shelves spring 2015. > Long story short, a 10x10 closet took them a year to complete. > Oh, for my inconvenience, 10% off the final payment (or 1% of total cost, that's all they saw this pain worth) **Comment from Southern Maryland Kitchen, Bath, Floors, & Design:** > Dear Mr. O'Malley, > > Thank you for your review. I am glad our installers did an excellent job in installing your custom closet. > > I understand that the closet certainly took more time that you and I expected the work to be. During the time we were installing your closet, as we explained to you prior to staring your closet, Yorktowne (the manufacturer of the closet pieces that we were installing) was in the process of revamping the line and discontinuing the closet program (part of the reason why the materials were 50% off). The closet system delivery from Yorktowne was delayed and although we received the delivery in March; there were pieces such as the custom hamper system that we were installing on the bench seat and miscellaneous pieces that did not come in (which we communicated according to a signed punch list form from when I personally went to your house on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 @ 7:30pm. I don't see where we asked for you to pay for support rods after the initial contract was written on January 20th. I see where you were charged additional on January 22, 2014 for upgrading your rods to Oil Rubbed Bronze to match the cabinet hardware you chose for us to install also the same day. According to our records, we completed your closet and had it usable on March 15, 2014 (after working on it for 5 business days) minus the customized items and the few shelves that were on back order. Because of the delay at Yorktowne, we communicated that the custom items were not coming until the middle of April and that we would complete that, with the additional shelves once we got it in. According to our records, you scheduled us on Friday, April 26 to complete the work since it was your day off. After completing the work, you mentioned that there were more shelves that were due to you so we placed an order for the shelves you requested and contacted you on May 26 to schedule the installation. After the installation (which you scheduled on another one of your days off - June 6, 2014); you mentioned again that you needed 4 more shoe shelves. We obliged and ordered the additional shoe shelves. Unfortunately, at this point, Yorktowne had completely run out of their inventory of the discontinued items and it took them a couple of months for us to get the shoe shelves. We tried calling the customer once we received the material and after reaching him in September; he stressed how long that the project is taking and requested a discount. I offered him a 20% discount on his final balance. After leaving messages for him in September 2nd, 9th, 10th, we finally reached him on September 12th and he would contact us to schedule the installation. We contacted him again on October 7th, finally reaching Mrs. O'Malley again on November 11. She said she was driving and couldn't look at the schedule and contact us back. Despite the multiple follow up calls, Mr. O'Malley contacted us in March 2015 expressing how upset he was that no one ever called him back. After speaking to Mr. O'Malley on March, 26, 2015; the customer expressed that he wanted us to only cut the shelves as his wife was expecting on Monday and he did not want to run the risk of one of our installers having whooping cough and infecting his new born baby. In short, because of the amount of time that the account was delinquent, we reduced the amount of the discount to 10% of the final bill despite the shelves being free of charge. > > I understand that we could have certainly done more to have facilitated the "completion" of the closet. I am so displeased with this company it is even funny!!! I got my SMALL bathroom redone and was told it would take 2 weeks to do. Doesn't seem too bad right? Well after waiting since May for them to even come out here and now it is September, they took a full 5 weeks to do my bathroom. There were days that we were told someone was coming so we waited around all day for no one to even show up. Not even a courtesy call. There were a few days when they showed up but there was no evidence that they did anything. My mother stayed here everyday that they were here and one employee even made a remark about having to drive all that way for just 45 mins worth of work. Very unprofessional. Anthony, the owner of this whole company really needs a class on running a business. He started out really good in the beginning of the process with picking out everything in the shop. Once the project started it all went down hill. He does not know how to run a smooth operation. Not to mention there was NO communication. I had to call the shop EVERYDAY to find out IF anyone was coming the next day. I should not be calling you. You should be calling me with the plans for the following day. There may be 3 contractors worth anything in the whole company. So whenever the owner decided to send them to our house they were spending most of their time cleaning up the mess ups from the workers before them. Again, that took up way to much unnecessary time!!!! So as it got closer to the end Anthony came out to see what all was left to do. I showed him everything that i had concerns about and he wrote them down. One major concern was how messy the bathroom was from all the work that was being done. I told Anthony that i wanted it cleaned up. I want my EXPENSIVE bathroom to look like what i picked off the showroom. His words were "We do not do that. We are not Southern Maryland Bath, Kitchen, Floors and CLEANING company." WOW did he really just say that to me??? You are the owner correct??? VERY UNPROFESSIONAL once again. He also told me that my bathroom was a construction sight. Ummmm yeah when you were working on it. Not once it is finished. He did however get HIS cleaning lady out here to clean my bathroom. Through the whole process all he could say was I am sorry over and over again. Enough with your empty apologies. Just finish my bathroom and do it the right way the first time!!! This company made me so sick to my stomach and made me such an angry person, I would NEVER use them AGAIN!!!!!! I could probably go on for days about every little detail about why NOT to use this company. Not to mention they are definitely over priced. I hope my experience can at least save someone else the frustration that i had to go through. Thank you! A: Thank you! Unfortunately, this style of sink has been discontinued since we completed this project. We recommend checking out big box stores such as Home Depot and Lowes. The top is River White granite and the cabinet is a Yorktowne cabinet. They are one of the cabinet lines we carry. Both the main tile and the accent. A: Elysia, thank you for your question. The wood-look tile is called "Mountain Timber Canyon" in "Canyon Timber" color.
