> Mehdi from M Squared Flooring, is a trustworthy business person. His installers though good (but not good++) in their work, can be better if they…..
> -pay attention to smaller details here and there during the flooring installation process.
> -show more quality work consciousness and be instructed very clearly by Mehdi to avoid carelessness resulting in damage to the walls during installation.
> -take responsibility for the breakage or damage of the walls, instead the homeowner has to bear all this and get the damages on the walls fixed at his/her cost.
> -address the fine gaps at several places in the flooring by filling them with wood filler and not to be in a hurry to run w/o completing the job to the satisfaction of the customer/homeowner.

**Comment from M Squared Flooring & Design Centre:**

> Mehdi and Mary are passionate about their business. Mehdi's suggestion to put a herringbone pattern in the entrance gave us the opportunity to run the floor in the best direction for the condo. The installers did a great job, with attention to detail. It is sometimes difficult to work in a condo, but with their cooperation, everything worked out great. We are delighted with our floor, and our experience.

**Comment from M Squared Flooring & Design Centre:**

> Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review! We appreciate your honest feedback and details about your project.

> I was very impressed with the quality and service I received from M2. We wanted to renovate our 3 bedrooms and as part of that replace carpets with hardwood floors.
> Coming to M2 we found a friendly and calm environment and were able to find the perfect flooring. Mehdi was very knowledgeable about all their products helping us make a great choice and answering all our questions.
> He thoroughly walked us through the purchase and installation process giving us the confidence that M2 is the right company to do business with.
> We chose to go with Mercier Madera white oak 4 1/4 hardwood floors and had them installed in January 2018. The installation process was very smooth and quick and Mehdi was able to
> accommodate our renovation schedule giving us time to finish our master bedroom before the rest of the bedroom floorings was replaced.
> I would definitely recommend M2 as a place where you could do business with confidence.

## Community Q&A

**Q: What is wrong with this set up?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am trying to figure out what is wrong with the way my Decor is situated. What is wrong and what should I change up?

A: I think based on everything you have shared, the original position of the chairs is ok. You would just need to pull them apart a bit so that the fire place is your focal point (even though you don't use it) and I would place the round side table between the big couch and the chair closest to the windows.
As for your bookcase, I think you have too many items on there. It is looking a little cluttered. I would remove the large candle sticks for sure. They are drawing the eye to wrong place. I would put them next to the fireplace itself, lower to the ground. I would move the M to the opposite side and let it stand alone. and I would reorganize the shelves so they don't look so jammed with objects. Let the swans be by themselves instead of one on top of some books, makes it look like you were short for space. I think in this case less is more. And I would replace the small clock with a much larger one with a bright face or a large mirror. These objects would bring light into that corner.
I hope that helps.

**Q: Glued vs floating LVP on slab?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Opinions?

A: As others have mentioned the floating floor is the easiest to install and somewhat foolproof. But not all floating vinyl planks are created equal. Depending on the thickness of the vinyl plank the clic mechanism will be different. There are vinyl planks on the market that look and feel like laminate flooring. They are thicker and easier to install. They actually install just like laminate flooring. Torlys has a product that has an antimicrobial and antibacterial cork underlay attached. It is very easy to install and a warm and durable product. Other companies have similar products, as well but they won't have the underlay attached. And most vinyl flooring will not allow for underlay under the vinyl because it can jeopardize the integrity of the joints.

Glue down products may cost you less for the product but will cost you more for installation and proper preparation of the subfloor. So my suggestion is do research on the products available and then decide from there.

**Q: Hardwood floors or porcelain tiles in kitchen?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

What looks nicer hardwood floors or porcelain tiles in a kitchen. The family room is open to the kitchen and it does have a threshold separating the kitchen from the family room.

A: If you are looking to put a hardwood flooring product in your kitchen, then I suggest you get a wood specie that can be distressed. A wirebrushed wood flooring will hide scratches better in the long run and depending on the level of distressing that is done to it will actually get pretties as it ages. Also because it is not a smooth finish to begin with you won't be worried about dropping things and denting or scratching the floor.

To protect your floors from water spots, place a small mat under feet at your sink and your dishwasher. These days most pre-finished hardwood flooring products are designed to go into the kitchens anyway. If you are getting a prefinished wood flooring, you won't be able to add a layer of finish on top. If you are doing a site finish floor, then you should put an extra coat of finish on it since site finished flooring will have less finish on top than the prefinished varieties to begin with.

Hope this helps.

**Q: Flooring** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Looking for flooring for kitchen through dining room , living room and entry. Like a rustic wood but concerned with water damage possibility in kitchen. Want one floor.

A: Hi
The trend these days is putting a distressed wide plank engineered hardwood all over in the home, from entry all the way to the kitchen. Most prefinished flooring options available these days comes with finishes that are specified for use in kitchens and entry ways as well.
You want to try to stay away from smooth and shiny surfaces, and very dark colours. These are hard to maintain in the long term and will show every spec of dirt and dust. And smooth floors will age more and show it because they will show surface scratches more. If you get a wirebrushed floor, because the flooring is not smooth to begin with, it will age better with wear and tear.
Also try to stay away from V-grooved hardwood floors since they are going to show the edges of every plank and that way you will see more lines on the floor. You will be better off going with a flooring that has micro-bevels. Less visible lines on the floor, but better than a square edge as small abrasive materials will get stuck in the bevels until you sweep.
Hope all of this helps.

**Q: Flooring design help for open floor plan** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are buying a house that is at the top of our budget. The present kitchen has tile flooring, the dining room has wood and the living room has carpeting. We would like to redo kitchen and take out walls separating it from dining room and living room. We have the money to redo all floors to all wood for flow and hopefully take down walls that separate kitchen. We do not have enough for full kitchen redesign at this time. Should we do living room floor and wait to do kitchen floors? The cabinetry and appliances only line walls right now. Could we use same layout with new cabinets and appliances and add island later? Or will we have to use different flooring in kitchen?

A: Hi annievla

So if you are looking to do wood all over, including the kitchen (which personally I recommend for an open design) It is a good idea for you to install all the floors at the same time. You don't want to start and stop the installation process. If you choose to put an island on top of the wood floors later, then the floor is ready to go.

Also I would advise against purchasing the wood and storing it for a long time. It is very important where and how hardwood floors are stored. You don't want to to put them in an attic or in a basement and you definitely don't want it to be in a garage for an extended period of time (We wouldn't recommend that even for a short period of time). If you have it in your budget to do all the floors at once, I would strongly suggest doing that. You will have the mess once and everything is done all at once and you are done with it. Whatever you choose to do later can be done on top of the floors.

Since you are going with an open concept, maybe look for wider plank engineered hardwood flooring. The trend these days is to go wider and distressed. If you are using hardwood in your kitchen make sure you stay away from a smooth surface. You want something wirebrushed or distressed. Hanscraped floors won't help with wear and tear as much as wirebrushed and distressed floors. You will be dropping things in the kitchen and you don't want to have to worry about little dents and scratches. That's where distressed wood floors are your best friend. Also the closer to the natural colour of the wood you are, the less imperfections you will see in the long run.

Happy hunting. I hope you find your perfect floors.
