But which white? My question is: should the two ceiling beams be painted to match the trim OR the ceiling? A: I would paint them the same color as the wall/ceiling- they seem to be part of both wall/ceiling, with the way the drywall is applied **Q: paint white or not?** *(in Paint)* Not a big fan of dark cabinets. The drapes are shown below, except the actual ones I'm using are longer than the 84" length shown. I have two issues:: 1\) One wall will have either full shiplap or board & batten grid pattern (samples below). Does anyone have a preference? It will be painted in SW Eider White. We were leaning to shiplap to mimic the horizontal pattern in the drapes, as well have a somewhat flat wall to hang items. 2\) Paint color for the dresser. I have an old high boy dresser with chipped veneer that I must paint. I cannot decide what color to paint it. Which color would be more versatile: Black, White, or ? A: Maybe try SW Black Fox or SW Van Dyke Brown for your cabinet for a little softer contrast rather than a true black **Q: Living Room Fireplace Location** *(in Design Dilemma)* I had this house designed a year ago, now I am questioning the location of the fireplace. I like that it can be seen from the entry, I'm just not sure about using up so much of the window wall. I was thinking it would be nice to place the furniture facing and surrounding the fireplace yet still facing the windows. Alternatively, I could have it moved to the only other wall in the living room. If it was moved would it look like it was blocking the natural flow from the entry to the living room and can this 15' wall accommodate it? The room is 18' wide (the window wall) x 15' deep with 9' walls. The stairs will be moved 4" to accommodate a 16" deep cabinet (a mock china cabinet that matches the other cabinets) I would sure appreciate any thoughts that might help. A: I would leave it where it is- I agree that it would disrupt the flow from your entry, and I think it's very inviting to see the fireplace as a focal point, along with the windows when you enter.
