From the first meeting with Karly and Michelle (project manager), we knew we were going to get a quality product. Karly was mindful of our budget, but with all of her great ideas, we made the decision to go bigger than initially planned...no regrets! When we received the initial plans, (we loved the 3-D rendering!) we requested some changes which Karly completed quickly. > Because our project was a large undertaking, it took quite awhile with numerous trades people in and out of the house for months. Every single person that Karly sent to our house was friendly, respectful and knowledgeable, and they always cleaned up before leaving for the day. The lack of clarity and communication over a 6 week period this past summer included poor communication around pricing, unacceptable wait times and an unpleasant working relationship when questions and clarifications were asked of Karly. When we finally received a design, weeks were lost aside from the expected summer holiday delay, and many portions have yet to be fulfilled, because they would require even more time beyond the 6+ weeks already invested. Karly may be a talented designer once engaged for a full reno but if you are looking for a design plan only you should absolutely look elsewhere. **Comment from Style Kitchen Design:** > Stanley M – We are sorry you feel this way about your experience. From our first introduction email to Jennifer K, your wife, we clearly outlined what our fees are as we do with all prospective clients. > > We had come out for an initial consult as well as provided you with an informal estimate for financing - all at no cost to yourself. At the consultation, your wife proceeded to hire us for kitchen design work. While at our meeting, our process was clearly explained. We cannot provide a firm quote when design work has not been done. Trades people need the opportunity to come to site and provide their pricing based on the design and site conditions. This was very clearly communicated to both of you. To say this was not communicated is disingenuous. > > I informed you we were going on vacation for two weeks after our visit and the design work would be completed the week after I returned. After the work was complete, your wife informed us you “had no idea” you had to pay for anything. The following week you changed your mind and agreed to proceed. All design work was sent, and we proceeded in revisional email correspondence. The revisions were completed, and new 3D renderings were sent to you within 10 business days. This is our standard turnaround time with the heavy increase in project demand. To be clear, here is the timeline breakdown: > > 1\. We initially met Friday before my holidays, > 2\. Went on holidays for 2 weeks, > 3\. The week I am back your design is complete, Fee is not paid, > 4\. The following week, you want to proceed. The design work is released Friday, > 5\. The week after we engaged in revisional correspondence, > 6\. The following week, we were out of town on a project and the revisional work was completed and sent by Friday for your review. > > Weeks were not “lost aside” as you can see the timeline I presented. You can access all the same emails and timelines. Your statement is misleading. Once the design work was actually paid for it was released and within 10 business days, the revisional work was completed and sent for your review. > > Given the significant number of emails and voicemails I receive on a daily basis, it often takes me a couple of days to return or respond to all inquiries. We strive to respond within two or three business days. We responded to every email and question within this time frame. We are sorry you feel this was not fast enough. > It’s really unfortunate we continue to receive the same negative review from you across different platforms. It’s months later and we’ve done nothing wrong. I’m not sure how our working relationship could be unpleasant considering we hadn’t started anything besides provide you with a design. > > We are still thrilled to provide you with your dream kitchen design, and I enjoyed working on the space. We truly wish you all the best on your renovation. Do take care. **★★★★★ — Annick and Fred, Nov. 2022** > Design phase: Of the 3 designers we contacted, Karly was the only who really listened to us when we explained our wants and needs for our kitchen. She also came up with ideas that we had not thought about but which were in keeping with our style. She came up with a design that allowed us to have a redesigned space within the confines of the existing footprint. She was proactive when it came to potential problems such as the possibility of asbestos and guided us through the steps to take when possibility became reality. As well, she had her trades people come in before the project to inspect the site in order to give an accurate estimate. An engineer also came to give an opinion on how not to compromise a load bearing wall. This did change the project a bit, but Karly gave us options and we were able to quickly come to a decision that actually worked better for us. > Construction phase: The trades people were extremely professional: punctual, pleasant and polite. The various crews worked well together, cooperating around scheduling. Materials were delivered on time, barring the issues with the supply chain which really only affected one aspect of the project - the backsplash. The workers took great care with the hardwood floors, protecting them as they worked and cleaning up carefully when they were done. Because of the care Karly took in the preparation phase, there were very few surprises. > End result: We are very happy with our new kitchen. Before the construction started, we were second guessing ourselves, wondering whether it would be worth it to renovate this space. We somehow have more room in a kitchen that has the same footprint as before. Not only that, but it is so much more functional! It was completely worth the weeks of upheaval and then some. Karly was the only one who really listened to us as we explained our needs and wants for our new kitchen. The suggestions she made were in keeping with our requirements but also gave us ideas that we had not thought about.
