I am thinking of painting the interior of kitchen, dining, living room in Accessible Beige or agreeable gray. The kitchen has white cabinets, blue pearl granite and carrerra marble backsplash. We will also be removing the tile/carpet and installing a med. brown hardwood floor. Thoughts? A: How about it? **Q: Doug fir ceilings- how to finish?** *(in Woodworking)* Hi All, We have a house built in the early 60s with doug fir ceilings and beams in a post a beam type construction. We are on the tail end of a remodel and had paint in some parts of the ceiling so we sandblasted all of the beams and the ceiling to make it uniform. It looks great! We are wondering if we should put a coat on it but want to keep it as natural looking as possible. Should we put a coat on and if so what kind? The floor is red oak so we want to keep the ceiling light an and natural looking. Oak Overload!** *(in Design Dilemma)* I have been in this home for 4 years now. I’ve been trying to make this honey oak work but I am failing miserably. I am thinking of painting the trim white and staining he doors and expression color. Thoughts? Wondering if I can pull it off.. A: Yes white is beautiful and paint the walls also to light colour somehow like light green or light blue or grey. The lighter colour makes the room more bigger. **Q: Need help redesigning foyer stone planters along stairs** *(in Design Dilemma)* Our home is full of this white stone from the 60s. While it's a nice feature, there's too much of it so we are planning to get rid of some of it now that we are redoing our foyer. The right wall of the foyer is covered with it and the steps leading up to the living room are bordered by a wall of stone to the right, and two stone planters on the left. Looking for ideas on how to redesign the planters to get rid of the stone but still maintain the curved staircase. Have thought about keeping planters in that spot and using a different material, like wood, but also open to other design or material ideas. We're considering drywalling the stone walls in the foyer and bordering the steps, since we still have a full wall of the stone in the living room surrounding the fireplace. In the photos you'll see the new flooring we're putting down (unfinished) which is a dark wood-look tile (to match the rest of the home) in a herringbone pattern. The main door leads to this room and it is a living/dining room. I live with my husband, a small child and a cat in a small 2 bedroom flat when we need to have every bit of space optimised and with lots of storage room. I need some advice on how to arrange the furniture in the great room. The fireplace is not in the centre and thus arranging the furniture is a big problem as there is no single focal point. Also we do not want to place the TV here. We are also open to making changes to the fireplace (like moving it in the centre but that would be our last resort). At the least we will be removing the mantle on the fireplace and extending the brick panel vertically. Or maybe changing the brick panel to a wood panel throughout the wall.
