From the beginning, they took my feedback seriously and really listened to what I liked, as well as what I didn’t like. **Q: What to do with this sitting room?** *(in Home Decorating)*

We have a large sitting room adjacent to our bedroom with a walkout balcony.Currently, we have a dresser, a black drum accent table and an accent chair in that space. I got a 5x8 rug for Christmas but I'm afraid it's too small for the space. I am inspired by my gray duvet cover, furry blanket and throw pillow.The area next to the windows gets decent sunlight and I would like to add some plants in the bedroom sitting area. I'm not sure what to put on that long blank wall. A bookshelf with plants? Large artwork? Painting that space means painting the entire large bedroom and sitting room, which I'm not sure l'm ready to do just yet, but I toyed with a deeper blue (Nocturne blue) from Behr and it looked beautiful. maybe curtains on the sides of the windows to give it some texture and warmth?
The light fixture is ready to be retired.
It’s too stark now. I’m more of an eclectic/contemporary girl.
I'm open to ideas!

A: Hi! Curtains would definitely look nice; maybe white or gray would do to match your duvet cover and grays in your throw pillow.
Besides that, are you open to adding a foldable or movable partition to separate your sitting room and bedroom area? It doesn't necessarily have to cover the bed from view, but just enough to break the space between the two areas. 
Another idea are shelves, which could be floating or open shelves. This would give you storage for your things and take up the blank wall.

**Q: Sideboard ideas** *(in Not Specified)*

I am trying to get a feel for our new dining room area and using pieces we currently have… this wall is 14ft long. Do you like the longer look or shorter for a sideboard? This wall is really tricky to fill….

A: Hi Lindsay, The longer sideboard would look nice if you're not planning on adding any furniture flanking its sides in the future; maybe add tall plants on both sides too. However, if you're looking into adding cabinets in the future, I feel the shorter sideboard would be better so you have more space for future furniture, maybe two identical cabinets that would take up the whole wall on each side, and since the window is the same length as the window, it would help it look more put-together.

**Q: Ledger Stone above Cabinets** *(in Polls)*

I found a real pretty Ledger Stone to use as my backsplash. I am thinking of running the stone above cabinets. My dilemma is would it look ridiculous to have tile on ”part” of the wall? As you can see in top pic it is the same wall as my living room. really need advice. Help!

A: Hi! I don't think that's a type of tile that's intended for a kitchen backsplash. As everyone else have pointed out, it would be a nightmare to clean and would be susceptible to more bacteria and mold build-up (the stone looks porous in the photo). You should go for polished/semi-polished ceramic or porcelain tiles. Something that you know food, sauces, and oils would easily come off when you wipe it clean. Usually its indicated if the tile can be used for kitchen walls, etc. - something to keep in mind when you're sourcing.

**Q: Living room Sofa layout/design ideas?!?!?** *(in Home Decorating)*

Hello!
I am looking to purchase furniture for this living area, though I’m not sure what layout and sofa arrangement would look appealing.Should i opt for an assortment of sofas and chairs? 
Thinking about something modern, sleek and functional. Any and all design advice/suggestions about the layout, scale and overall selection would be greatly appreciated!

And in this case, I'd go with darker furniture. Matching colors across furniture sets can be difficult and often leads to mismatching arrangements. The darker theme could be a great way to go. Especially with the area rug, floor lamps and a few other simple furniture items. It'd basically feel like it's own distinct lounge area/room

**Q: Living room furniture layout dilemma** *(in Home Decorating)*

Hoping for some advice on a new build. 

The area I am struggling with is the living room furniture layout - the circled area in particular. I've been told not to do a sectional as you will walk in the entry and just see the back of a couch. 

Directly opposite the couch circled are 14 foot windows open to an open view of mountains and water. There are swivel chairs planned so the views can be enjoyed or we can have them face the room.

The ceilings vault from 14 foot on the sides of the living room and kicthen to 19 foot in the middle.

Any ideas would be appreciated - I don't want to block the view, but am worried if we leave the area where the circle is with no furniture that's a long span from the front entry with only console tables. Current color scheme for furniture is nomad snow performance fabric (couch) and brown leather swivels.

A: @melissaom Agree with ACM. You play around with 2 ideas here - sectional design and placement. First, you can consider sectionals with lower backs or chaise extensions (no blockage of a view). Or, you could put the back of the sectional against the wall on the right hand side of that picture. A third option is considering other types of seating/furniture that aren't as likely to obscure view (benches, ottoman, spaced out recliners). Also, love your color choices

**Q: How would you furnish this open living space?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I would love to start from scratch in arranging this open living space (kitchen, dining and living area) but can’t ”unsee” my current furniture arrangement.
How would you furnish this space? 
I have 3 patio doors (2 in living area, 1 in kitchen) and a wall of windows on the right.
The opening on the left leads to the bedrooms. There is a clear distinction between living area and dining/kitchen through the change in flooring (previous owners).

A: What's the current layout like? It could be easy to work from your existing layout (which it seems you enjoy). You should definitely optimize for window views and work within constraints like entries for patio. Seems like you have a great amount of space for a living room, dining area and kitchen area. Could add small carveouts like bars, small seating areas etc depending on activities you like
