Known for his reflective, innovative twist on the expected, Los Angeles-based interior designer Tommy Chambers designs a space with nothing short of a magic touch. The delightfully unpredictable runs rampant through his work, imparting sparkling charm and wit while still aligning with each homeowner’s vision.

“My inspiration comes from the client,” Tommy says. “Every single project is completely unique and one-of-a-kind; that’s what excites me the most about the design process.” While a Tommy Chambers Interiors room may not have one signature “designer” look, what it does have is good design sense-in spades-not to mention a sophisticatedly eclectic and vibrantly whimsical sensibility.

The designer launched his eponymous firm in 2001 after eight years at Chambers and Murray as head of the interiors department and the senior business and operations manager. Putting his architecture degree to good use, he takes a classical approach to the myriad of styles his projects bring him, carefully balancing elements such as proportion and scale with the architectural integrity of the space and the client’s tastes and definitions of personal comfort. His love of architecture is likewise one of the reasons why he specializes in historic restorations, especially Mediterranean, Spanish Revival, Spanish Colonial and contemporary Mid-century homes.

No matter how big or small the assignment, Tommy is directly involved in every project to ensure each client receives dedicated and focused attention. Cost effectiveness and maintaining a budget is also an integral part of Tommy’s work, and he is a master of the high-low design approach, seamlessly offering more accessible furnishing and décor options as needed. It’s no wonder then that every single Tommy Chambers Interiors client is a referral. While Tommy and his team primarily work in Southern California, they have projects throughout the United States and abroad, where they blaze their dynamic design trail and give each room a story of its own.

> Worked with TCI on a project in Park City, UT years ago. I was the Superintendent and managed/coordinated all the onsite installation of finishes, and they were super-high-end finishes and everything was uber-custom. I have yet to work with anyone so knowledgeable and capable since. Tommy and his team engaged with me on the smallest of details, and had such great plans, from lighting to tile to countertops. What was impressive to me and set them apart was the understanding of how all the elements of a home came together and interfaced. Never did I get out my tape measure to explain anything. The experience felt like a collaboration of talent as opposed to a conflict of egos and agendas. I always received the right answers at the right time. From my experience, they truly set the bar.

> What a relief to work with Tommy Chambers and his team. They understand the entire process of construction and supply design details in a timely and professional manner. I've worked in the construction business for over forty years and Tommy is the best.

> Found Tommy after seeing his work at an open house. Didn't give him much else to work with except "I loved the feel of that other home you did" when I handed him the keys to our new empty house. Tommy and staff made sure everything went as explained. The integrity of the style of the home was maintained while simultaneously introducing fun and fresh twists complementing each room. It was an organized and effective process until finished. Tommy is not just a designer, or an architect, or a contractor. He is all of them. We will be forever grateful to Tommy and his staff for a wonderful experience and for turning our house into our perfect home.

**★★★★★ — JW Builders, Nov. 2017**

> As a general contractor myself, I rate Tommy in the esteemed class of 'builder's designer'. Meaning that he not only exceeds expectations of his customers, but he is also experienced and knowledgeable to know how to work with, and help, GC's and trades contractors, a remarkably rare quality among interior designers. I have also observed over years Tommy, his staff, and his installer group at work with the utmost of care and quality turning finish product to delighted clients.

> I have had the privilege of working with Tommy on multiple (7+) projects over the last 18 years. Tommy has an infectious love of design and his work clearly reflects that. His attention to detail is extraordinary. I trust his judgement and his expertise entirely. One of the many things I have always found so refreshing about Tommy is his willingness to shop at various price levels. He can design using the finest materials and finishes and he can also make a house a home on a lower budget (and he has accomplished this for me in a few temporary residences). Tommy Chambers is a genuine, authentic human being and an absolute pleasure to know and work with. In today's world that goes a long way.

> i've worked closely with TCI since 1997...Tommy is talented, flexible, skilled, organized, resourceful, mindful with superb staff - can't say enough good things! I highly recommend!

**★★★★★ — Philip M, Nov. 2017**

> Tommy has impeccable taste. He is a first-class service-oriented designer and his staff are incredibly organized, efficient and personable. Tommy's design style, in a way, is to help you, the owner, realize your most tasteful desires and to politely and painlessly discard those desires that really do not work for your project. His ego is not tied up on you knowing he made it all happen. In the end you will have an amazing result. You won't just be the owner of the amazing results, you will feel a part of those results.

> Upon buying our Colonial style 1930's family home, we knew that it would take work to bring it alive once more. We first did our homework in selecting a designer. After thoroughly searching for a capable and well respected designer we selected Tommy Chambers Interiors to design our entire project. The references and scope of work he has accumulated over the years spoke volumes of his design abilities. The real firsthand testament to Tommy Chambers Interiors came upon beginning work with his team. My partner and I knew that when we saw something that we liked we could provide an opinion, but the understanding how to begin a project or where it would end up was daunting to say the least. Tommy toured our home and considered our architecture, living needs, timeline and possible costs before offering any grand plan. He then put together a working plan for renovation that would address all the concerns of our family and the long term investment in our property. Tommy and his team provided a variety of options that he knew would work in our space and he communicated clearly and precisely the expected outcome. We began by dealing with all the base items of a full design project such as floor plans, electrical placement, appliances, tile, bathroom fixtures and system updates to environment such as music, room flow etc. We later moved on to fabric selections, paint details and furniture materials. Tommy and his team are fantastically organized, prepared and willing to listen to the client's thoughts and/or suggestions. This level of professionalism was exactly what we needed when it came to coordinating with our contractor and other trades associated with the project. Tommy has connections with craftsmen of all sorts and was able to find design fixes to a variety of items that we were unsure how to fit into the final concept. Just to mention one, we had some family heirlooms such as a large antique wooden box that was re-envisioned as a piece of furniture on a custom designed metal base that has become a focal point of conversation in a beautiful new living room. Tommy and his team are a boutique firm and value their time with clients and we never felt passed over or a non-priority even though they are a well sought after design team. Excellent work from beginning to end and we will use them time and time again with any future property.

## Community Q&A

**Q: the carpet is stunning. what company carry’s it?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Interested in ordering one for my den

A: Thanks for the comment Mayilyn. Our clients love that rug. It is from The Rug Company. It is the Paul Smith "Swirl". They make a few different versions. I don't see our version on their website anymore. Their "Modern Swirl Pink" is very close. I've attached an image of the one we purchased. If you contact them and show them the photo, I'm sure they can make one for you. Their web site link here.....The Rug Company Paul Smith "Swirl" Area Rugs

**Q: Baseboards** *(in Photo Questions)*

This is exactly the negative edge baseboard we have in our home. The look is very nice, but as it is drywall that meets the tile, it is easy for cleaning crews to damage the wall. And, the tile installers did not always take the tile to the wall therefore we have some cracking grout lines near our walls. We are debating a robotic vac/mop for cleaning the tile floors. Otherwise we are using a string mop. It's a big job! Anyone else have any ideas?

A: Hi. In the photo above, we actually used a painted wood base that lines up with the painted drywall above the "C" channel, so we don't have any issues with damage from cleaning or Robovacs etc.... You could add a small wood Shoe moulding piece to the bottom of your baseboard, but that would change the style/look of the design.

**Q: where did you find those chairs?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love the chairs!

A: Hi Liz. Thanks for the comment. Those are the "Normandie Lounge Chairs" from Charles Pollock Reproductions via Charles Pollock Collection - William Switzer. We purchased these many years ago. I just checked their web site and do not see them anymore.

**Q: quale la marca della vasca da bagno?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hola Emanuela. La tina es la tina "Empire" de Waterworks. Enlace aquí….. Discover Empire 71" x 34 1/2" x 24" Freestanding Rectangular Bathtub Online \| Waterworks

**Q: where do I get those brown leather chairs** *(in Photo Questions)*

Stunning would like to order

A: Hello,
Thanks for the comment. We purchased those chairs from Charles Pollock via William Switzer. They are called the "Normandie Lounge Chairs". Here is the link. NORMANDIE LOUNGE CHAIR – William Switzer

**Q: Wall paint colors** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hello, we are.purchasing a home with "cola" color stained concrete and are looking for wall and ceiling paint colors. What do you recommend to make a room brighter and bigger when it has that color of stained concrete. I like the wall colors of this home. What colors did you use on the walls and trim?

A: Hi Kristie,
I would think to do a light with an off-white color for the walls. For this home I used Farrow & Ball “Stony Ground” \#211 in “Modern Emulsion” sheen on the walls with Benjamin Moore “Swiss Coffee” for the ceilings and trim. Ceilings in “Flat” sheen and trim in “Semi-gloss” sheen.
I would also suggest considering Benjamin Moore “Ballet White” and “Tapestry Beige” for the walls…. using the same “Swiss Coffee” for the trims and ceilings.
