**★★★★★ — ROBERT GREGORY, Dec. 2022**

> Mierop Design has been a great partner in helping us to upgrade the outdoor spaces around our house. Lisa has been a joy to work with.
>
> Listening to our needs, and requirements, Mierop first created a comprehensive Master Plan that allowed us to address projects according to priority. The design approach blended aesthetics with practical considerations such as utility, budget and return on investment. Mierop presented several solutions to us of which we were not aware, and likely would not have otherwise considered. Those we have implemented so far have transformed the way we use our outdoor space and dramatically improved the curb appeal of our home.
>
> Mierop has managed the bid process for each of our projects. The contractors Mierop Design has brought to us have been excellent (with competitive bids in each case) - the quality of their work has been very high, and they have come in on budget. Due to supply chain issues, Mierop has set realistic delivery timelines and constantly updated us on scheduling, so that we were always in the loop. In short, they have consistently delivered as promised. Lisa and her team are very hands-on in managing the work, very responsive to our ideas and concerns, and they remain in constant communication during the process. Not only have the completed projects significantly upgraded the value of our property, they also have increased our enjoyment of our home enormously.
>
> We are continuing to move forward with Mierop on the remaining projects in the Master Plan and recommend them highly.

**Comment from Mierop Design, FAPLD:**

> Thank you Robert. It was been wonderful working with you and Holly. I enjoy our collaborative decision making process and look forward to more conversations and further landscape renovations in the future.

**★★★★★ — Kris and Nicole Hubert, Dec. 2022**

> My husband and I give Mierop Design the highest recommendation. Mierop Design completed a landscape renovation around the corner from our house in Maplewood, New Jersey, and we watched the work unfold. The result was so elegant and eye-catching that we contacted them to begin a project for our house. From the beginning, it has been an absolute pleasure to work with Lisa and Frank. They walked us through their process to develop the landscape design, how contractors would be selected, and how the project would be managed. Along with the initial blueprint, Lisa provided an on-line color portfolio of the plant and flower choices. As we iterated on the design, Lisa listened to and addressed all of our questions and ideas. Our project began in early September and will wrap the end of this year. We are renovating our entire property with a particular focus on an awkward back yard. From our kitchen door, we had to go down three steps to a sunken patio and then up two steps to the lawn. Lisa and Frank spent careful time measuring, discussing, and debating how to make the best use of the space. The new design created a beautiful blue stone patio one step down from the French doors in the kitchen. The patio has a deep seating area, a fire table, and dining for eight people. Lisa guided us in selecting all of the elements including outdoor lights, furniture, and the fire table. The contractor Lisa recommended, CLC Landscape Design, has been fantastic -- the quality of their work is outstanding. Throughout the process, we have felt supported, our questions have been answered, and every detail of the project has been managed carefully. The Pennsylvania fieldstone wall beside the driveway is now complete and the crew has moved on to the new front stairs with stone piers and a wide grey stone walkway. Although an expensive undertaking, we are thrilled with the work, and are glad we picked Mierop Design. We will enjoy many years of the beautiful spaces they created.

**Comment from Mierop Design, FAPLD:**

> Thank you Nicole and Kris. It has been our very great pleasure to work with you both and it is exciting to see the result of our many conversations finally translating into reality. I know as the garden matures that you will enjoy your property even more and I hope to follow the progress of your landscape over the years.

**★★★★★ — Amanda S., Nov. 2022**

> Lisa and her team are truly the best of the best when it comes to all things garden and exterior decor! They turned our front yard from bleak to chic in the most thoughtful ways. Their attention to detail and ability to problem-solve are second to none. Thank you, Lisa!

**Comment from Mierop Design, FAPLD:**

> Thanks you Amanda. It was a pleasure to work with you and I am very happy with the outcome. As it matures there will be more color to enjoy.

**★★★★★ — Howard Slatkin, Nov. 2022**

> Working with Lisa Mierop and her excellent team has been a pleasure in every way. She is extremely professional in every way: listening to my concerns and ideas, and returning with a range of brilliant ideas, designs and solutions. She is expert at structural concerns as well, and brings in the most professional experts as well, such as structural engineers and contractors. On my property, resolving the flooding issue was paramount and Lisa and her team were deeply knowledgeable and came up with solutions to this complex issue, and did much research. I have worked with several garden designers over the decades and none are as professional and involved. Lisa replies to texts and telephone calls promptly and if there is a concern at the site she will come over and calmly and professionally resolve it. And she cares deeply, and about every detail; she did not stop until she sourced the right brick for the patios, as one example, and the trees as well. It's that attention to detail that is very rare and makes all the difference----as it illustrates great care, concern and takes much time. Also, and importantly, she is passionate about her work; if she believes something is important she will make a strong case for it---------she doesn't just "yes" the client, and I think this is crucial as she is the expert. And she is honest, trustworthy, has beautiful manners and superb taste.

**Comment from Mierop Design, FAPLD:**

> Many thanks Howard. It has been my pleasure to get to know you and to assist with your property development. From the drama of last year's severe storm damage, we have found the silver lining! I know it has been a long and hard road but we can at least celebrate the positive that has come from the hurricanes of 2021.

**★★★★★ — MJ B, Dec. 2021**

> Lisa is very clear and organized, right from the start, which was VERY important to me— especially since she oversees both design and GC/sub work. She is responsive and always makes time for questions, ideas, or concerns. Lisa is transparent and consultative, start to finish, and gave me a heads up as soon as she felt we needed to adapt our plans based on supply chain or unexpected issues with the landscape.
>
> On top of it all, Lisa delivered high quality designs and an expert eye that caught compliments from neighbors and even local service people. The finished product is beautiful and we love spending time on our patio, something we couldn’t do before. I definitely recommend her for your next landscape / hardscape project or to help furnish and decorate your outdoor space.

**Comment from Mierop Design, FAPLD:**

> Marl, thank you so much for this wonderful review. It was a pleasure working with you and I’m so pleased with the transformation of your property. This spring it will be gratifying to finally see the plantings do their thing. Looking forward!

**★★★★★ — HU-947015250, Dec. 2021**

> Lisa designed and oversaw my Westfield home improvement project completed towards the end of summer 2021. I live on a 1/2 acre lot that was completely redone, and I mean completely! Entirely new landscape including all hardscape. Patio, retaining wall, front and rear walkways, all bushes, several trees, many, many and perennials. We added a swimming pool as well in the back and Lisa assisted us in selecting the fencing around the pool and arranged for its' placement.
> The entire project was completed in roughly 5-6 weeks and the quality of the workmanship is extremely high. She was always available and communicative if questions arose. Perhaps most importantly (at least for me) was her ability to select the right plants for the right locations with a combination of plants that create a colorful, flowery assemblage that persists from early spring well into autumn. She truly has a gift. It is obviously a labor of love! I am 100% satisfied with the outcome of this project and highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone to redo their outdoor space. She will not disappoint!

**Comment from Mierop Design, FAPLD:**

> Thank you Ron for your kind words. It was my pleasure to be able to shepherd you and Carol past a challenging variance process to get what you wanted for your landscape. I wish you both many years of uninterrupted pleasure from your new pool and plantings.

**★★★★★ — Amanda, Dec. 2021**

> Lisa and her team worked to transform our property from enjoyable to a backyard oasis. She had an amazing vision to take down a fence and bring the side yard/ porch into the backyard space.
>
> In doing so she enhanced our outdoor living space adding two additional areas we now love to spend time in and in the 2 years prior had spent exactly 1 time on that porch. Our backyard is now like an amazing vacation spot, perfect for covid staycations! She completed the space with potted plants and perennials that are local to the area for easy maintaining.
>
> All the people she works with are extremely professional, polite and stick to their word. Would highly recommend for large projects that you have as her vision is impeccable.

**Comment from Mierop Design, FAPLD:**

> Amanda thank you for your support throughout the project. It has been my pleasure working with you and I am also very pleased with the property’s transformation. There definitely were some spatial challenges but with creativity we did find a way to optimize the pool area and add some additional private space to your landscape.

**★★★★★ — pdzialo, Jan. 2021**

> The transformation of my landscape has been nothing short of spectacular thanks to Lisa and Frank at Mierop Design. Lisa did a great job understanding my needs and creating a design that complimented the renovation of my house and outbuilding. The design was both functional and creative which kept the approach to the garage and rear of the property a green and artistic space. Months later I am still getting compliments on the design. Her team was courteous, attentive and true artisans. Lisa is a pleasure to work with, extremely knowledgeable and I would highly recommend her services.

**Comment from Mierop Design, FAPLD:**

> Phil thank you so much for this! Frank and I loved working with you as well as you were so open to stretching design possibilities into more truly creative and uncommon ground. We look forward to seeing you in spring 2021 to finish up the plantings. Your new laurel hedge has been fortunate so far with this, thus far, mild winter.

**★★★★★ — amy Michalchuk, Jan. 2021**

> Lisa and her team are fantastic. A pleasure to work with: responsive, on time and on budget, and the results are spectacular. They have transformed the curb appeal of our house and our outdoor living options.

**★★★★★ — Cathy Hicklin, Nov. 2019**

> Lisa from Mierop Design developed and executed a landscape plan for our new home. Lisa was able to translate our goals and desires into a beautiful finished product. Lisa is very knowledgeable and creative but also flexible with her plans to accommodate our preferences. Lisa oversaw the project to insure the installation was seamless every step of the way including the planting, irrigation, lighting, and lattice work. Lisa was a pleasure to work with and completed the project in a professional and timely manner. Lisa and her team did a fabulous job!

**★★★★★ — Andy Schmeltz, Oct. 2019**

> We have had a very positive experience working with Mierop Design! Our landscaping, patio and deck have transformed our backyard into a beautiful, welcoming environment primed to be enjoyed in the days, months and years ahead. Most importantly, Lisa asked questions, listened to our preferences, sought our input/approval along the way and kept us appraised in a timely manner. Quality and professionalism are top notch from end to end!

**Comment from Mierop Design, FAPLD:**

> Thanks Andy and Dayna for your wonderful project, and your patience is waiting for us to be able to dig in on your project. I am so happy with the improved flow between indoors and outdoors and think you will now truly enjoy your outdoor living. Onto the furnishings!

**★★★★★ — Savita Subramanian, Oct. 2019**

> Our experience with Mierop Designs / Terra / \[name of the overall entity\] couldn’t have been better – from design suggestions, to breakneck pace (complete outdoor plan completed in one season), to always beating rather than missing deadlines… all the stuff that customers hope for but rarely get. Lisa and her well selected team gave us soup to nuts advice on what to plant, how to decorate, materials to use, where we could save money and where we should pay up. But it was after the project was completed that Lisa and team really took it to the next level. Where many contractors collect their last check and walk away, Lisa has remained involved with us on an ongoing basis. She checks up on the house after storms, obsessively monitors plants and drainage, provides advice that extends beyond the scope of her project (how to create a cohesive front hallway that meshes the interior with the exterior, for example.) She has gone above and beyond on too many occasions to count – she even brought beautiful outdoor furniture from her showroom to our home to help decorate for a garden party before our furniture arrived! Unbelievable service, expertise, quality, and Lisa and Frank are just lovely people to work with.

**Comment from Mierop Design, FAPLD:**

> Thank you Savita for this incredible review. We were very appreciative for theproject and loved the challenge that your property offered. There were many aspects to deal with beyond just making things 'pretty' - a difficult drainage situation, overhead utility wires that had to be buried to get the hot tub where we wanted it - and yet you and Ed stepped up on your end every time, making swift decisions and keeping things moving forward to the best possible conclusion. I truly think your home has been transformed and enlarged by adding the entire outdoor space which was virtually unusable when we first met.

## Community Q&A

**Q: retiaining wall** *(in Photo Questions)*

Would you mind being more specific regarding this stone used for the wall?
Who is the manufacturer, and is there a specific style name/color selection?
Thanks in advance!

A: There is not a specific color or name...we call it PA Colonial fieldstone here in New Jersey. There is no manufacturer - it is from a quarry and gets hand tooled into place. The caps are made of cast limestone from Haddonstone.

**Q: What type of grass/plant is this on the left?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: yes hakonechloa macra 'Aureola'

**Q: What are the tall pink flowers and what variety of hydrangea?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Beautiful pic!

A: thalictrum rochbruniaum - I love it too and it self sows!

**Q: Beautiful! What is the tall reddish deciduous bush?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi Kelly...sorry just seeing your question today! That is a prunus cistena.....sand cherry.

**Q: is bluestone pavers ok for Michigan winters?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Worried about our hard winters and the blue sone buckling up.

A: I would check around locally to see what people use. Bad winters and lots of ice plus use of salt can cause issues with bluestone causing it to flake. Thermal faced bluestone may be more stable. I would set it dry so that stones can be easily readjusted if necessary following freeze/thaw.

**Q: What are the dimensions of the stone pillars?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: As I recall about 24" wide x 36" tall...caps are cast limestone from Haddonstone.
