Best, Darra **Q: Need Floor Plan Design for Unfinished Basement** *(in Design Dilemma)* We've been in our house for a year now and we're beginning to think about finishing our basement. We have 3 children and really want a great space for games, movies and friends. The basement is 960 square feet. In that space we're hoping to include a nice size family room, a crafting room/spare bedroom, a bathroom (with a tub) and a small "workshop" for my husbands projects (tools, small woodworking, painting). We'd like to use any extra/unused space as storage. I'm having trouble coming up with a good use of space and would love some help/advice. Thanks!! A: I would love to help! If you provide a sketch of the basement layout I can give you some ideas. As you are basically working with a loft space, you will need to plan your storage so it looks like the finished great room you desire and not a garage. Looking forward to seeing the current layout! **Q: small master needs help** *(in Design Dilemma)* 12x15 master. We sacrificed space for a view. It looks anemic to me. I have a black quilt I could substitute for the silver one, (?) and the chest (shown) i have two, one for each bedside instead of the chinese things. If I use the chests they, along with the calif king bed, takes up all but 5 inches of that wall. Also, I have those beautiful antique mirrors that are 24x42. Should I use them perhaps behind the lamps. I would like to usse the things I have, but any other items you might think fabulous, I can purchase......but please help me. A: My first inclination would be to add a punch of paint to the walls. The existing vanilla is what I think it giving the room that anemic look. The black and cream should look decadent, and you absolutely have the right pieces to make it work. Also consider adding some more texture and a pop of accent color (like the coral Leelee is suggesting). Added color and texture will give the room the pop you are looking for! **Q: My new studio apt** *(in Design Dilemma)* I am downsizing into studio in a retirement home.i do not want it to look cluttered but I have so much stuff am 87 do you have any pictures or advice? A: I constantly have the challenge of taking a client's possessions from a larger home and making them work in a much smaller space. Committing to a cohesive selection of storage solutions, whether they be wall mounted shelves, wardrobes, or bookshelves doubling as room dividers, is of utmost importance. Discovering what pieces of storage furniture you can implement into your space will take you far in knowing how much you can bring with you. TruStory Media is right on with the idea of finding pieces that do double duty. Investing in a smart murphy bed or investing in pieces meant for micro apartments is the way to go. I want to have a fixed shower panel rather than a door, but I have been told there will be too much splash. Feedback please! A: I personally love the simplicity of not having a shower door. It keeps the look clean + modern. If you have the appropriate amount of tile / waterproof surfaces throughout your bathroom, splashes will happen, but won't be a practical issue, especially if the shower itself is sloped properly. The image I am using here has a chainmaille shower curtain that was installed as a back-up in case the water splashing was an issue, but ended up never being used. **Q: Need help with paint color in small master bedroom** *(in Design Dilemma)* I want to create a warm, romantic bedroom. Suggestions for paint colors would be appreciated.... Has anyone painted their wainscotting a colour rather than white? And what to do with window above bed.... A: I would go completely unconventional and paint the wainscoting a color present in your duvet cover (and abandon the idea of keeping it white). It will add warmth and create a much more welcoming and delicious bedroom feel. The blinds above your bed need to be replaced with something softer - the idea of roman blinds presented by jennyrf is a good idea, or even something softer like the french pleated drapes shown in her Glenwood Residence photo would be wonderful. What I like about the pleated drapes is that they will add some much needed richness and softness to the room, while doubling as a headboard for your bed.
