We knocked out the sides to open up those windows and add light back in, added drywall, and covered the main fireplace in the middle since it was our only TV location option. We covered the fireplace with ghost wood and actually insulated it to keep the cool out. The good news is, should we have to sell and someone wants the fireplace BACK, it's easy to remove! I found some black stone for the hearth and added shelving for our "stuff". In the fake fireplace opening, I have logs and candles. It is beautiful at night. The after shot shows the stairs and railing we just finished also: I was worried about the dark carpet, but with a dog and doors on both the left and right, it has been the best decision! It also seems warmer in the colder months, even though that is all mental. :-) Doing our own modern railing was a HUGE money saver and we had a lot of fun figuring it all out. It really opens the house and makes it feel new and modern. A: Great job! Your space turned out beautiful! **Q: Before and After Powder Room** *(in Before & After)* My client had a functioning first floor powder room in need of an upgrade in style and color. We agreed on a wall to wall tile on the fixture wall. A soothing neutral paint and darker cabinets. The floor tile was also changed out to a charcoal colored 6" x 24" tile. We recessed a new industrial metal medicine cabinet. The existing sink, faucet, toilet and light fixture were all able to be reused for some nice savings on the construction budget! Updated powder room with wall to wall tile Powder room before design and construction work. A: Wow! What a transformation! Great job! **Q: What colour should I paint my chairs?** *(in Design Dilemma)* We have this great table, painted in turquoise and black chalk paint. Our dining room is wood lined and is quite dark, so I need some inspiration as to how I can make our cottage style chairs have as much wow factor as the table. Your ideas would be greatly appreciated! A: I think a high gloss black chair would be great. **Q: Help with our 70's exterior** *(in Design Dilemma)* We bought this house 2 years ago. The original exterior was dark brown batten boards with the veneer stone (I have a painting of original). It was a nice look but also dated for today. The Previous owners stuccoed the front and shake sided the rest. It is a horse farm with a lot of expenses so I don't want to put a fortune into it. I was wondering if inserts in the Windows would help and maybe German smear, paint or stain the stone. I love Joanna Gaines work if that says anything about my style. Love this transformation** *(in Before & After)* We loved bringing a welcoming, stylish color to our client's front door. What do you think? Too bold for your taste, or could you go for it? A: I love RED front doors. I painted ours red.....my husband and I were taking a walk down our cul-de-sac.....I said "Look honey, you can see our doors from here"......his comment, "You can see our doors from outer space!".....but I didn't care, they were beautiful! **Q: 1. The pic is a sofa from Donghia$$$$$. I normally just buy online, but the prices at Donhgia are out of my ball park. I love the simplicity of this piece. I normally buy online going into a store is very overwhelming to me, especially when they pull out those humongous design books. I'm like OMG why am I here? looking to spend $3-5000. I like a tan hue color scheme and accent with paint, pillow and accessories. A: Ethan Allen has both of those styles available.....have your purchased?
