### Reviews

**★★★★★ — E R, Feb. 2018**

> My family inherited a house, and it needed work before going on the market. Jason and his crew were able to fit the job into their schedule on short notice. The work comprised a long list of small projects. They repaired and replaced doors, installed screens, repaired drywall, installed a dishwasher, fixed cedar siding, performed interior trim carpentry, restored a baseboard heater, and more. I know this job was less challenging than their usual fare, but everything was completed with a high level of neatness, efficiency, and workmanship. I would definitely hire them again, especially when the details matter.

**★★★★★ — John Ellison, Feb. 2018**

> We had our kitchen completely redone by IBC. We were very happy with their professionalism and impressed with their attention to details. They went the extra effort to do it right and did not cut corners. Plus they came in at the just over the cost estimate only due to some extra work we added to the project. I will look to hire them again for additional home projects.
> Highly recommend.

**★★★★★ — David Lantelme, Feb. 2018**

> We worked with Jason with the mission of renovating and redesigning our 2 BR, 1 + 1 1/2 Bath home in the Hudson Valley. Jason and his team were able to able to beautifully re-proportion both bathrooms, install pocket doors in bedrooms, bathrooms and closet, move and enlarge our kitchen, extend our deck and solve a very tricky problem of accessing our basement.
> His knowledge is exceptional, he is a contractor with great architectural and engineering knowledge with a great aesthetic.
> We couldn't imagine having worked with anyone else and are completely happy with Jason who walked us through all the stages and was able to stay within our budget.

**Comment from Jason Jones:**

> Thank you David. It was a great experience transforming your home and a pleasure working with you and Clive. We made a good team.

**★★★★★ — Scott Klion, Jan. 2018**

> Dedicated. Creative. Reasonable. Thorough. I have used Ingrained Building (Jason Jones) for three major and challenging home improvement projects (new rear deck, new interior french doors, and gut bathroom remodeling) and could not be more pleased with the results. Each came in on time and at or under budget. And the finished product exceeded my expectations.

**Comment from Jason Jones:**

> Thank you Scott! Your projects were a pleasure to be a part of.

**★★★★★ — Mark Strong, Jan. 2018**

> Ingrained built us the most amazing 4-season porch! The team was so professional and we were thrilled with the entire process. Every building project has its hiccups and the team addressed and managed everything in a professional and highly communicative way. Highly recommend.

**★★★★★ — Tom Nolan, Nov. 2016**

> The crew built a deck on the rear of our house and put a new floor in our dining room. All the work was beautifully done and thoroughly cleaned up afterward. We have used Ingrained several times before and have always been impressed with the craftsmanship they demonstrate in their work. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants quality work at a fair price.

**★★★★★ — Terrence Mahon, March 2015**

> Our experience working with Jason Jones, of Ingrained Woodworking Inc., was entirely positive. We were concerned about embarking on renovations of our 1850 house but found Jason and his whole team sensitive and respectful toward the historic structure throughout the project. The scope included gut renovation of the kitchen (replacing a bearing wall with a new beam in the process) and creation of a laundry room and pantry. On the second floor Jason transformed a bedroom into a beautiful new bathroom and installed a shower in an existing bath. The detailed planning and logical, organized way the work proceeded allowed us to come in on budget with no surprises. The quality and attention to detail at every stage of the project was exemplary. Jason and his team are superbly skillful and always worked to the highest standard. In addition, they were extremely pleasant and maintained a very clean job site. The sub-contactors engaged for plumbing and electrical work were equally superb. Jason was a pleasure to work with at every stage. Having one's home disrupted can be stressful but Jason's calm, confident nature, in combination with his fine communication skills, was key to a positive and productive experience yielding excellent results. We could not be more satisfied and recommend him wholeheartedly, without reservation.

**★★★★★ — Foster Flooring, Nov. 2014**

> I am a Flooring company and have worked with Jason on many projects, in 30 years in business I have found fewer contractors who not only do good work, but care about their customers and there enjoyment in the process like Jason does. His customers are his biggest advocates and I recommend him with the utmost confidence that they will be treated professionally and as a friend. Glen LaGoy Foster Flooring

> Jason Jones, and his company "Ingrained Woodworking" (now "Ingrained Building Concepts"), provides an uncommon level of craftsmanship and care. From the planning and attention to all the details, including those most homeowners/clients would not likely think of, to the cleanup at the end of the project, Jason ensures that you will have trust and confidence in the ongoing work, the control of costs, and the result. This upfront attention helps to avoid the unpleasant surprises that often show up when less thorough builders provide quotes.
> He and his team are highly skilled, polite; they clean up every day, and they ask questions along the way – rather than just go ahead and do something that may not be what the customer is looking for – this is a huge benefit.
> From the small job to the major renovation, "Ingrained" has the experience and talent to get it done, and to offer suggestions and advice from a design perspective; Jason brings his architectural knowledge and experience into play. Jason himself is a cabinet maker as well as a construction expert, so your project can be handled "under one roof" – to use a cliché, but in this case quite apropos!
> He is also a calming influence. Building and renovation projects are stressful to clients, just by the nature of what is at stake. Jason handles problems and challenges that may arise with thoughtful solutions that remove the anxiety. And he stands behind his work. On the rare instance when an issue may arise after a project is done, he is on the scene promtply.
> Definitely call "Ingrained Building Concepts" for your next project.

**Comment from Jason Jones:**

> Thank you Peter! It was a pleasure working with you thru the design process and installation. We love working with clients who have a thoughtful design sense and a desire for craftsmanship.

**★★★★★ — gsorin, Nov. 2014**

> Jason Jones (and crew) added a 20 x 14 sun room to my house. The craftsmanship was a model of perfection. Even as we made changes he was very accommodating and professional and skilled at getting the jobs done beautifully. Jason also put in a tile floor in our entrance foyer, remodeled some cabinets to accommodate sliding drawers, and other smaller jobs all of which were accomplished to our satisfaction, going even beyond our expectations.

**★★★★★ — Michael and Adrienne Bautista, Oct. 2014**

> Jason's work is creative, artistic and meticulous. His team is capable of crafting exactly what the homeowner is looking for and with beautiful and skilled detail.
>
> I'd recommend him anytime. My kitchen and bathrooms turned out beautifully and even the simple repair work he while here is now invisible to the eye.

**★★★★★ — jsandragolden, Oct. 2014**

> Over the last fifteen years Jason has done a number of projects, big and small, for us. He has installed new kitchen cabinets, renovated a bathroom, built two separate decks, extended our house including making two rooms considerably larger and creating new basement space, installing new windows, changing all internal wooden doors, reconstructing an outside drain system, other odds and ends, and now we will be using him to expand our living room and put in a new deck. Clearly, we think his work is superior both as a craftsman himself, as a manager of a crew and as a general contractor. He is honest, takes pride in his work and is is very skilled. He has creative ideas when planning a project and in solving construction issues. We have recommended him to many friends who all praise his work. Below I am choosing the biggest project so far, not the most recent, to fill out the questions below.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Can you please tell me who makes that tile and what product it is?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I absolutely love the tile in this photo. It would be perfect for my project. I would very much appreciate knowing the company and product/color information. Thank you very much.

A: Hi, I unfortunately do not recall the tile. The owner supplied it. I vaguely remember it being from lowes?

**Q: mantle ideas???** *(in Design Dilemma)*

looking for advice to fill the height of this mantle space. thanks!

A: Is it possible to get more of the fireplace stone and reduce the height of that plywood overmantle? It looks way out of proportion. I would also swap out the actual mantle with a larger, thicker wood timber. Then use similar rustic wood above it to create a panel in the overmantle

**Q: Rose Cottage before and almost after** *(in Before & After)*

Almost near completion of the big reno to our cottage, now home. I am thinking of adding shutters to the 2 small windows on either side of the eyebrow bump out window. These windows look small to me and I think the shutters will make them look wider as well as add some colour. Stumped with shutter colour though and front door colour. We will be adding black coach lights to both ends at the front as well as a black pendant light under the covered porch and an antique black bench to the porch. landscaping will also need to be added. The bump out was supposed to be covered in a light grey natural field stone ( cultured), but they sided it all and said they would change it to the stone if we want. Hmm, I am not sure now. Feedback and suggestions appreciated.

A: wow scott design. very thorough. I learned something here. thank you.

**Q: painting my cherry cabinets** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hello all,
Please help. I made a huge mistake in my kitchen. I picked cherry cabinets and regret it. I am now stuck with medium cherry cabinets. When i picked them in the design center they seemed more mahogony. I either like dark cabinets or light not in the middle. I wish I got white cabinets. Should I paint them? The wood worshipers in my family think I am crazy. please Help!

A: Changing doors is an option but like someone posted earlier, hinge placement, and size does vary from one manufacturer to another. best bet is to discuss that idea and get an estimate from the kitchen dealer/designer you originally worked with. the manufacturer will have all the doors sizes on record already.

**Q: Hard wood floors in the kitchen?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I love the hard wood floors in all white kitchens and it's what I picked for our new house but everyone is telling me it's a bad idea because of the wear and tear that goes on in the kitchen. I'm starting to have second thoughts...do any of you have wood flooring in your kitchen? Any regrets?

A: Be very careful on selecting an engineered flooring. Find out the wear rating on it. Some are very thin. Especially in the big box stores. Go to at least one flooring place and ask questions. I prefer nail down for its ability to be refinished if it ever needs it.

**Q: Architects cost** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi All,
I'm getting quotes from architects that are all over the map for a project that involves remodelling a 2000 sq ft home with no change to the footprint. It involves reengineering a wall of windows that face the sea to accommodate bigger sliding doors and the construction of an opening at the front of the house to allow pool access. If there are any architects out there could you give me a very basic sketch of what you'd charge for this type of service?
Thanks, AJ

A: Getting back to architect costs, I don't think I realized that the services vary from a basic set to a complete set with specifications, etc. I think it would behoove any client not to have a thorough set of plans designed and full specs produced. Even collecting and evaluating the bids would be a valuable service for the client. It would probably pay for itself.
