The brains behind Packard's Kitchens, Mary Packard: I opened Packard's Kitchens Inc. in 1996. After college, with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and a minor is Business, I was selling appliances through the contract sales division of Sears. They added cabinets to our product line and Sears sent me to training seminars. Through my contacts from the seminars, an opportunity to design and sell cabinets for a cabinet company became available. I took a chance and left appliance sales for the kitchen industry. It was the best decision of my career!! My training was through the NKBA (NATIONAL KITCHEN AND BATH ASSOCIATION), and the school of "HARD KNOCKS" !! MEASURE, MEASURE AND MEASURE ...DESIGN DESIGN AND DESIGN until finally I got it!!! It is similar to a carpentry apprenticeship. I worked 6 years for the initial company that trained me and then 4 years for a co-worker who started his own business. It was during that time I started exploring the idea to open my own business. I had established contractor accounts and 10 years of experience. Another leap of faith!! The second best decision of my career!! I hope to be selling cabinets until someone tells me " YOU ARE TOO OLD" get out of the kitchen and go home!!
