**★ — Jeanette Thomson, Dec. 2024**

> Very Disappointed.
> We did a complete house renovation in the spring of 2019. Bram did cabinets for a full kitchen with island, large Master bath and a guest bath. Initially we were very happy with the results, but this December (2024) we returned to our southern home to find that quite a few of the doors had discoloured. Not all of the doors, just 8 of them, and because they were in the middle of the white cabinets they were very noticable yellow.
> We contacted Bram. who informed us that they no longer sell Envoy Cabinetry and he gave me the company's contact information. We contacted the company whose representative Jodi told us they no longer make that colour, (white) and we were outside of our 5 year warranty. Absolutely no help at all.
> So here we are with a 5 year old kitchen, looking terrible, and no one to look to for remediation.

> Absolutely the worst. This was the distributor my contractor used. He measured incorrectly, changed my kitchen configuration for no reason creating feet of dead spaces and has caused me to be so far 18 weeks without a kitchen with no end in sight. He doesn’t respond to my contractor and the cabinet manufacturer (Sollid in Chandler, Arizona) refuses to speak to me directly and will only communicate through this very shady distributor. You would think since he made the mistake causing this unbelievable delay he would take some interest in getting this done. He must have already been paid by my contractor since he could care less if I ever have a kitchen again. I have paid over $38,000 and have no kitchen. Been eating out of a laundry room for 4 and a half months so far and have no idea when it will end because nothing can be done until I get cabinets. Avoid, avoid, avoid this place. I feel like I have been scammed.

> I had Dutch Design replace all the cabinetry in my home. I have replaced cabinets in many homes over the years and these are by far the highest quality. The cabinets are solid wood. No partical board anywhere. The installer was professional and clean. Everything was done on time and without any issues. My kitchen and bathrooms came out beautifully! If you want quality cabinets, professional installation, and great pricing Dutch Design delivers!

Very responsive to all of my questions, he worked through a number of different variations of our kitchen plans until we found the perfect fit for our lifestyle and budget. > We have been pleased with the shelving that has gone in the office in our home. The file cabinets set in with the shelves, makes good use of the space.

**★★★★★ — susanmontgomery82, Feb. 2016**

> Dutch Design Cabinetry built my cabinets. The cutlery drawer that I asked for is like two drawers in one and since I have a small area it is perfect!
> The quality of work can not be beat. The cabinets are beautiful and above my expectations.
> The workers were respectful and knew what they were doing and did the job on time

## Community Q&A

**Q: yay or nay - kitchen island WITH attached table height seating?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Anyone ever did this? I need the prep space and storage of an island but with elderly parents increasingly living with me, the counter height seating is just hard for me to justify - they don’t find it comfortable - esp for lingering meals. They prefer the informal more laidback EIK eating vibe, than eating in the nearby dining room. I’ve seen islands with the attached table height seating but I dunno - something seems off - like it’s an afterthought? But maybe not? Functionally it works. Aesthetically? Your thoughts?

A: You might like an island like this with built in swing out seating......

**Q: Small kitchen design advice sought** *(in Remodeling)*

I'm laying out a small kitchen for a 3 bedroom apartment in Brooklyn NYC. Tenants are young professionals - 24-35 age range.
I'm still in the framing process - so open to making some changes.
I'm thinking an L-shaped kitchen with a corner sink makes the most sense. I have a radiator valve pipe limiting my long leg of the L-shape. I'm going to have that moved over to create more space.
I was considering putting and island in the kitchen, but I think common area closet would be more useful for the tenants. I'm considering building a long storage closet along the common hallway wall.
See diagram.
Any advice or thoughts are greatly appreciated.

A: I would move the DW to the right of the 15" cabinet to the right of the sink so you have room to stand when doing dishes. Put the fridge on it's own to the right of the radiator. Slide the oven to the right a little so you have 24"+- of countertop to the right of it. You're all set!!

**Q: Green Painted Cabinets in Kitchen?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Has anyone here painted their kitchen cabinets in a soft, earthy green tone? If so, could you please post your pictures in the comments? Thanks!

A: This is a beautiful sage kitchen.

**Q: Can I use your image on my blog page? Thanks** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can I use your image on my blog page? Thanks

A: Hi Koray, thanks for your inquiry. Please send us a link to your blog and we can see if it fits within our scope of influence.

**Q: Painted kitchen cabinets...top coat or no?** *(in Paint)*

I'm in the beginning process of painting my kitchen cabinets, and will be using Benjamin Moore Advance Semi-gloss paint on them. I've read that a top coat isn't necessary with this paint but was just wondering if anyone has done or would recommend doing a top coat with this paint and what did you/would you use, polycrylic? Water based polyurethane?

A: HI Kim, definitely use a top coat. The top coat is the clear layer that won't mark as easily as the painted layer. It allows easier clean ability and won't get "sticky" like the paint will. Finally, make sure you use a primer like Kilz to block and oils and stains that might be left on your cabinets before applying your finish color.

Hope this helps!!

**Q: ice maker decision** *(in Appliances)*

under cabinet ice maker Scotsman dce33 or manitowoc SM50A?

A: Scotsman...... they just last longer.
