> Carly did an amazing job for us. She took our basic concept and transformed it into something we could not have conceptualized on our own. We also appreciated how Carly stayed in control of various contractors and saw the project through to completion. Carly has a great sense of design and we hope to find another project with her soon.

**★★★★★ — Kristin de Castro, July 2016**

> We worked with Carly at Unpatterned on our kitchen remodel and had a great experience. Our kitchen needed a significant facelift and Carly developed a design plan that makes it look like an entirely new modern and sophisticated kitchen while staying within our budget and reusing appliances and pieces where possible. We updated our counter tops, backsplash, sink, lighting, cabinet hardware, wall and cabinet color and some decor, however my favorite part of the kitchen upgrade is the custom fireplace feature she designed for us. We went from a standard fireplace surround to floor to ceiling tiles with a large mantle and shelving. We get so many compliments on this feature as it enhanced the entire look of the kitchen.
>
> Working with Carly was very easy. She is skilled at understanding her client's style and pushing them appropriately to think beyond their normal boundaries without projecting her own style onto them. We found her very responsive and flexible and appreciated her ability to work well with our general contractor as well as the vendors that she recommended.
>
> We highly recommend Carly for any type of interior design project. You will not be disappointed.

> This is our third project with Unpatterned (first was designing a nursery, second was redoing a bathroom). On this project, we renovated a previously unfinished basement. Unpatterned helped with some initial ideas for layout what served as the basis for our project and then helped with design elements. I had a very specific vision in mind for certain rooms (mudroom) and then wanted a lot more creativity and input for the main entertainment area. Carly is a great listener- she takes in what you want out of space and then provides a range of options from the conservative but also includes options that push you as a client a bit (which I really appreciate). Without her eye for detail, my spaces would end up looking like a replica straight out of a magazine. She's knowledgeable about materials from different forms and price points and overall so much fun to work with. Highly recommend.

> Having consulted with her on interior design in a professional setting in the past, my husband suggested that we leverage Carly at Unpatterned for her design expertise in the renovation of our home (gut rehab). I’m very glad we did. Carly sat down with us for an initial consultation to familiarize herself with the scope of our project, get a sense of our initial ideas/tastes, and outline the numerous ways she can work with clients. Throughout the process, we leveraged Carly for everything -- cabinets, countertop selection, backsplash, flooring, design sketches for custom built-ins, tile, grout, paint colors, furniture, light fixtures, hardware, rugs, etc. Although she always listened to and incorporated our ideas into her design proposals, Carly was not afraid to bring her own ideas to the table and often got us thinking about and looking at design ideas we would never have come up with on our own. In many cases, we liked her ideas were better! We also benefited greatly from the many relationships that Carly has with various vendors, as she was able to achieve us some very meaningful designer discounts that more than made up for any fees that she charged us for her services. Throughout it all, Carly was very professional, proactive, and responsive. She is a pleasure to work with. We are beyond pleased with the final outcome. I highly recommend Carly at Unpatterned for any interior design project, large or small.

**★★★★★ — Laura Magnus, July 2015**

> I highly recommend Carly at Unpatterned for anybody looking for an interior designer. Carly was a pleasure to work with on my living and dining room. She listened to my needs and understood my budget. Her sense of style, decisiveness and responsiveness helped move the project along quickly. She worked hard to incorporate existing pieces and bring in new ones. She also has connections to local upholsterers, fabric stores and other vendors that saved money and time. Carly’s aesthetic is truly unique and I love how she brings new life to old furniture and accessories. We have received so many compliments on the chairs that she helped us reupholster and the paint that she selected. Our house is 100 years old so her background as an architect was key in understanding the house and respecting the era that it was built. I look forward to working with Carly on more projects in the future and cannot say enough wonderful things about her.

**★★★★★ — Rachel Raymond, July 2015**

> Carly has an amazing eye for details. I was fortunate to have her consult on my condo in Chicago which needed a creative uplift.
> I had a small corner space with shelving but basically no other function near the entrance. She recommended removal of the shelves then adding wallpaper and a sofa table. It turned out beautiful and was very inexpensive.
> In the bathroom, Carly helped me streamline the design by removing bulky cabinets and updating lighting. Again, the space was transformed on a budget and ended up looking larger.
> I sold this condo recently and I have no doubt that the value was increased as a direct result of Carly's design input.
> I recommend Unpatterned to anyone with a space that needs an update/creative edge.

- [Grand Scandi](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/grand-scandi-pj-vj~7116903)
  - Location: Chicago, IL
  - Photos: 10
  - Description: This project was a complete renovation of the back half of the home - kitchen, dining and family room. The kitchen was oddly shaped with an awkward wall breaking up the space. We turned the wall into a column, moved the sink and dishwasher to a much larger island, and created a beverage center plus a focal piece to display the clients' fun objects. We took inspiration from the clients' heritage and appreciation of Scandi design and combined it with their love of color and quirk. New stone on the…
- [Wood and Wallpaper Wilmette](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/wood-and-wallpaper-wilmette-pj-vj~7116891)
  - Location: Wilmette, IL
  - Photos: 14
  - Description: Sometimes we start with a few foundational items and a blank slate. We’ve worked with these Clients on their previous home, and they were ready to make their bedroom suite all their own. Keeping the built-ins was a requirement as was wallpaper, some new window treatments, a closet overhaul, and all the decor and details. We kept the bed and drapes and swapped the rest to create a luxe sleeping retreat. Phase 2 of this project was to tackle the dining room and adjacent powder room. The dining roo…
- [Glam for the Fam](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/glam-for-the-fam-pj-vj~7116866)
  - Location: Chicago, IL
  - Photos: 15
  - Description: These clients had a hodgepodge of furniture mixed with a few great features and pieces - such as the William Morris wallpaper and vintage Chinese rug. We sourced a mix of vintage, new, and custom pieces to amplify the best parts of the existing features and create a space that felt less “formal” and more warm and inviting. We gutted the powder bath and created a fun statement with bright crocodile tile and subtle details. The kitchen needed a little facelift to stand up to the rest of the first…
- [White Kitchen But Wallpaper](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/white-kitchen-but-wallpaper-pj-vj~7116849)
  - Location: Chicago, IL
  - Photos: 12
  - Description: This kitchen is divided by a stair to the second floor, which made for some tricky planning. But we love a design challenge and turned the lost space on the other side of the stair into a multi-functional mudroom/coffee bar/pantry. We relocated all the appliances and added an island as well to create a more practical layout. City spaces need to work hard and this kitchen does just that. You CAN have a pantry and a 4-seater island in your bungalow kitchen. FUN FACT : We relocated the back door to…
- [Modern Living Level](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/modern-living-level-pj-vj~7116832)
  - Location: Chicago, IL
  - Photos: 15
  - Description: This project was basically a blank slate for a living/dining room with the ever-challenging sunroom extension of the living room. We bridged the living room into the sunroom with a bench so that it feels open. New furniture throughout, lighting, art some dramatic wallpaper and window treatments tie the first floor together. The hardest working space is in the back of the house though, where we added custom built-in cabinetry by the back door. Instead of matching the white kitchen, we chose to br…
- [Purple Formal & Family First Floor](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/purple-formal-and-family-first-floor-pj-vj~7116769)
  - Location: Chicago, IL
  - Photos: 18
  - Description: The formal living room was filled with boxes. The family room was ready to be filled with new furniture. The banquette table was not a banquette table. The mudroom had minimal storage. The lighting was not their style. This family entrusted us with transforming 4 of their prime rooms, where they spend most of their days. We chose family friendly textiles throughout that are tied together through repeated shades fo purple and complementary bright colors as well as customized upgrades and a mix of…
- [Full Floor Master Suite](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/full-floor-master-suite-pj-vj~7116753)
  - Location: Chicago, IL
  - Photos: 9
  - Description: We got to start with the most spacious master suite, essentially the full second floor of a classic Chicago Bungalow. We gutted the bathroom, swapping the huge dated tub for more storage, upgraded the dual pedestal sinks to a custom double vanity, and gave the double shower a makeover, adding a rain head. The renovations continued into the bedroom, office and window seat space with new flooring, lighting, window treatments, furniture and accessories throughout. FUN FACT When we begin a project,…
- [Moody Decor Home](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/moody-decor-home-pj-vj~7112258)
  - Location: Chicago, IL
  - Photos: 16
  - Description: First we helped this family make their traditional first floor their own by adding a custom painted entry design, designer wallpaper, fresh paint on the fireplace and bookshelves, and a dining accent wall. We even helped procure furniture, including the custom designed record cabinet and commissioned painting and completed the look with hands-on styling. Less than a year later we were back for a master suite overhaul, including a new floor plan, an expanded master bath, his/hers closets, a fresh…
- [Luxe Master Bedroom](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/luxe-master-bedroom-pj-vj~7112254)
  - Location: Chicago, IL
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: A full transformation was in order in for this master bedroom. With little direction other than some inspiration photos and the request for wallpaper, sconces, and new everything, we had to start somewhere and it started with the wallpaper. The vaulted ceiling got painted a moody gray. A textured upholstered bed got paired with a linen duvet to keep from feeling too formal. We had the Hepplewhite style dresser custom painted a mossy green to contrast the purple and anchor a gold flecked original…
- [Sentimentally Eclectic Condo](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/sentimentally-eclectic-condo-pj-vj~7112205)
  - Location: Chicago, IL
  - Photos: 18
  - Description: This client came to us looking for some help decorating the living/dining room and master of his new Chicago condo. Over the past few years, we have decorated most of the space together - great room, master bedroom, guest room, hallway, office, powder room and paint/wallpaper throughout. Our design was uniquely inspired by our client's sentimental and eclectic objects and art, such as the vintage Europe map in the living room, his grandmother's antique lamp and English pub sign in the office, an…

  - Description: This new construction home was a 2+ year process with the clients, a retired couple with a huge family that they entertain in their home weekly. Unpatterned provided comprehensive interior design for the over 10,000 square foot home. We touched every surface from pre-construction layout tweaks, all custom cabinetry design, finish selections throughout, including lighting, tile, plumbing fixtures, and hardware for 2 kitchens, 6 baths, laundry/mudroom and furniture! - Photos: 17
  - Description: An early 2000's kitchen/living/dining area in the Lincoln Square neighborhood transformed. We started with some maple and a weird set up, but we opened up the wall to the dining room, rearranged the layout a bit, and completed a total renovation. New cabinetry, appliances, countertops, backsplash, custom millwork, wallpaper and lighting. We also added a front hall closet where it needed to be, overhauled the fireplace including new tile, created a custom built-in banquette AND added new furnitur…

  - Description: These clients came to us with a pretty blank slate. They already had some base pieces: a sofa, pair of pink chairs, shelving, bedroom furniture, and good bones. Unpatterned was hired for a total decor transformation of the living/sitting room, master bedroom, and back stair. The addition of decorative lighting, custom draperies, rugs, wallpaper, throw pillows, accessories, paint and a few additional showstopper pieces of furniture and art really pack a punch in a home, which is evident here.
