## Community Q&A

**Q: help with blah fireplace area !!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

any ideas on how to give a warm poop! to this very blah area...thinking of painting the fireplace and add that same color  to the backs of built in book shelves  any suggestions please? !

A: How about dressing it with wood? Make nice, white wood mantel with beautiful crown molding. 
This way surroundings will match.

**Q: Best way to prevent kids from getting in a room/office?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have a two year old, and another one on the way. We're planning on building a new home. In that new home we'll have an office as my wife and I are going back to school and need a quiet space to work. 

I'm looking for a way to prevent the kids from going in the office and making as mess, as they do, with our "important stuff". The easy answer is a lock on the door, I know. I'm just wondering if someone might have a better idea.

A: My 2yo girl never interrupts me. Just give them extra time if they need it. Let them play and run wherever they like because kids see the world differently. They always want something that is forbidden. Dont forbid. Let them play, oversee, explain. It works. Good luck. Fyi only place in my house that has child safety gate is kitchen, because i find kitchen dangerous with all utensils, gas stove and more.

**Q: Need help with where to paint** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I'm getting everything in this room painted - so far I know the walls will be Mindful Gray by SW, with a strip of the same color in the wood beams of the ceiling, and the trim and ceiling will be white.  I'm stuck on what to do with the cabinets, mantle, and shelving.  Any ideas??

A: I recommend to paint all woodwork white. Oil based white color. I like your choice for walls.

**Q: "Need help for kitchen design"** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi all,
We are building our home and it's time to decide on the kitchen cabinets and the layout. I have a modern theme in mind and need a practical use of the space. Planning to use a detached cooking range(90\*60), side by side refrigerator(95\*65)..All measurements given are in cm.
Any ideas or thoughts regarding the layout? Thanks

A: I would take down the partition wall and create island instead.
