‘the designer today should not help to produce more, he has to help to produce fewer and better things. there is a beauty, an aesthetic and philosophy of less.’ – philippe starck

since 2003, mango design co has been creating homes & interiors with a philosophy of less, of keeping it local and of thoughtful design for future generations. we don’t believe bigger is better! we reuse existing housing stock & strive to make better use of space before creating additions. we build community by hiring local craftsmen & purchasing from local companies. we do love fabulous style, but we are not about the bling! we choose renewable & recycled materials and use natural finishes that feel good, wear gracefully and have longevity. in an increasingly material world, this is a design philosophy we can feel good about.

but please don’t mistake our ethics for boring! mango design co is tanya mclean – owner + creative director, and nichole skladan – junior designer extraordinaire, and we are both artists at heart. our design inspiration stems from the context of the spaces & places we inhabit here on the west coast and our undying passion for global travel. we love mixing cultures, eras, textures + colours. we love the the whimsical, the artsy + the handcrafted. our creative design aesthetic results in an eclectic, timeless modernism.

### Reviews

**★★★★ — Sandra Coll, Sept. 2019**

> We hired mango design to help us with the renovation of our penthouse apartment. We needed to add another bathroom and refresh the space with more contemporary finishes and fixtures.
> Tanya and Nichole gave us some excellent space planning and design plans but also were very cooperative about integrating our ideas and some of our existing furnishings. They recommended a very good contractor and the project went quite smoothly.

**Comment from mango design co:**

> Thank You Sandra! It was such a pleasure working with you + Bruce to create your new pied-a-terre. Looking forward to a toast to your new space when you finally move in ;))

**★★★★★ — HU-179576871, Sept. 2019**

> We really enjoyed working with the team at Mango. They are wonderful listeners, collaborators and, most importantly, designers. Their vision truly reflected what we were hoping to achieve, and then some. They managed expectations and helped introduce us to an amazing team of professionals help make our renovations a success.
> Our newly renovated home is where we want to spend all of our time now.
> We would not hesitate to recommend the services and expertise of the good folks at Mango.

> Tanya is always a blast to work with. Her creative ideas and what gets produced is always inspiring. Her organic approach and aesthetic sets her aside from the rest. Always a pleasure.

**★★★★ — ccgg, Aug. 2016**

> Tanya is a creative, talented designer! Very professional in providing the estimates for her work and multiple design options in a very timely manner! I loved that she was so flexible and open to changes in the design, a delight to work with! The end result speaks for itself! The kitchen reno opened opportunities for a open concept family room and dining room, which we absolutely love!

**★★★★★ — Jennifer Sawrenko Gellis, July 2015**

> We loved working with Tanya. She is professional, experienced, creative, efficient and has great design sense! Tanya was excellent at communicating with us throughout the entire design and renovation process. She worked with us to renovate our 100+ year old house and was great at providing thoughtful solutions to update our home while maintaining the character. She also provided solutions to increased our livable space without adding onto our home. We would absolutely recommend Tanya and will definitely choose to work with her again in the future.

**★★★★ — jengland11, May 2015**

> I chose Mango Design Co. because of Tanya's love of modern design and environmental sustainability. She is eco-conscious, simple, and creative. If you love a blend of modern design principles and whats-good-for-your-health and the planet, then Mango Design Co. is a fantastic choice. Tanya understood quickly what our needs were was professional, direct, and clear about what she could deliver. She worked creatively with us from afar (across Canada), using video and photos, in person meetings, and phone conversations. She and her team was able to work effectively with our older house plans and develop innovative ideas for making the most of our small space for a busy, young family. I would definately work with Mango Design Co. again! Strongly recommended.

**★★★★★ — frenchbetty, May 2015**

> i was really happy we chose tanya mclean of mango designs co. for the design plans for our major renovation (over 93%) and addition to our house.
>
> it was a pleasure to work with tanya who did a super job of translating our top priorities for comfortable living on a unique pie shaped property lot to an amazing house.
>
> tanya is knowledgable, skilled, detailed and most importantly creative.

**★★★★★ — vandiner, May 2015**

> Tanya was essential in my successful town house renovation. First, Tanya recommended a great general contractor to manage the whole project (Allen at Inspired Renovations). Tanya worked with Allen on interior modifications. Tanya and Nichole at Mango then helped me pick paint, tiles for the fireplace and back-splash, new appliances, lighting, a new hand rail and lots of new furniture. Tanya can provide full design service, or, as in this case, be a design consultant and provide ideas, suggestions and steer you away from making bad decisions, ensuring a lovely, liveable home.

**★★★★★ — stanleys16, May 2015**

> Mango Design helped us pick paint colours for our house, inside and out. We were very impressed by how quickly Tanya picked up on our preferences and style, while suggesting colour combinations that were beyond what we would have chosen ourselves. Tanya was thoughtful about what would work with our home and decor and came back with several options. The colours look terrific and we get many compliments on them.

**★★★★★ — inspiredrenos, May 2015**

> I have worked with Tanya of Mango Design for several years and completed multiple projects with her. She is great to work with, and always has unique and inspiring design ideas.

**★★★★★ — kendahaga, May 2015**

> We are 5 years in our house and love it. LOVE it!
> Insightful, thoughtful and a delight to work with. Tanya spent time with us to understand our lifestyle and had great ideas!
> We plan to move again to a smaller house and have already planned to use Tanya again.

Our client directed us to ‘Make it AWESOME!’ and reflective of its downtown location. Ecologically, it hurt to gut a 3-year-old condo, but…… partitions, kitchen boxes, appliances, plumbing layout and toilets retained; all finishes, entry closet, partial dividing wall and lifeless fireplace demolished. ## Community Q&A

**Q: Second wall removed?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Was a second wall, perpendicular to the one that ran the length of the house removed also? It looks here as though one closing off the kitchen from the dining was removed. Gorgeous renovation, thanks for sharing!

A: thank you! yes, we really opened up the main floor so the 2 load-bearing walls were removed as well as another small wall at the back door.

**Q: gorgeous paint color** *(in Photo Questions)*

Please can you tell me what color the paint is?

A: Ooh this was a very very long time ago but I do believe it is benjamin moore cc-638 lemongrass (which I think they may have changed the name of now)

**Q: bathroom carpet / mat** *(in Photo Questions)*

where did you get the carpet? So pretty.... do you use it for a mat?

A: it was from urban outfitters but quite a few years ago now... yes you could use as a mat :))

**Q: where is that vanity from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Have been trying to find that color vanity but have not been successful in months

A: its a midcentury teak vanity purchased second hand. you'd be best searching craigslist or used/antique vendors. good luck! or you can have one made out of solid teak which likely would have been less work/expense than the refinishing involved in this one!

**Q: Beautiful flooring, what kind?** *(in Photo Questions)*

The floor is lovely, is it hardwood? What kind of wood?

A: isn't it beautiful? its called Trestle from Du Chateau and is recycled from the manufacturing process. Unfortunately, production has moved and the current product has a glossier finish and isn't our fave anymore.

**Q: Rug** *(in Photo Questions)*

My bathroom is similar and I’m looking for a rug with these tons. Do you mind sharing where you found it?

A: It was from Urban Outfitters... but a few years ago now. Good luck!
