We live in a coop that was built in 1966, an era where the words "spacious" and "bathroom" did not go together. The doorway was two feet wide, the vanity was practically on top of the toilet and the 50 year old tub made the room look even smaller. We wanted to design for our future here. Mary and her team drew up three options for us (like Sears' old Good, Better, Best - dating myself, I know). We went with the Better option, which widened the doorway to three feet, replaced the tub with a walk-in shower and borrowed some room in our bedroom to make the bathroom more spacious. At every step of the design and remodel process, Mary was there to answer questions and present solutions. Everyone from Case were so professional, patient and wonderful to work with. Keep in mind that this project was done during the height of the CV19 Pandemic in Maryland. Mary had great design ideas and the CASE showroom in Bethesda was very useful. The products for tile, counter top, vanity, fixtures were all very nicely displayed and great to be hands on. Jose was the main craftsman and did an excellent job truly a skilled craftsman! CASE has a good reputation and many neighbors said "Aren't they expensive?" After a calamity befell our already failing 25-year old kitchen the night before a major holiday meal, I called Case the next business day. For context, we are semi-retired seniors who love to cook, often entertaining family and friends across generations. Completely re-doing our kitchen was a way to extend our own hospitality capabilities while dealing with necessary repairs. I'd been a corporate design project manager for decades, and knew this renovation did not present an ideal situation: almost 400sf of windowless kitchen, constrained by immovable walls and a relatively modest budget. Although I had a vision, I'd lost touch with building codes and permits, and there was a pesky corner I was unable to resolve so outside help was a must; we'd admired how Case worked on a neighbor's home some years prior and when they assigned Mary to us, I knew we'd hit pay dirt. At our first meeting, I gave her my own freehand plans and elevations along with certain finishes I'd already selected, and she didn't flinch. We quickly came to experience Mary's deep knowledge base and experience, seemingly effortless ability to problem solve, and meticulous organization. No upselling, no fantastical schemes, rather the most effective collaborator. Her unflappable good nature made her a joy to work with at every stage. I especially enjoyed watching her dynamic with her Case design colleague, Melissa Cooley, and with their team of carpenters: when a project team shows the same respect for each other and their work as they do for their clients, the project always benefits. Mary is truly gifted in fostering that. Full disclosure: this was the first time I ever awarded a contract without competitive bidding, reflecting the level of confidence, competence and honesty Mary presented from the outset. Not a single regret! She's the consummate professional. Fast forward to no cost overruns, completion significantly ahead of schedule, and only positive feelings about every interaction-- we're loving our new space with its striking style, dramatically enhanced functionality and space flow.
