Vinny is extremely knowlegable about all phases of construction and has managed to rebuild our house from framing, moving walls, creating an open floor plan where there was once a load bearing wall, putting a new pitch on our roof, choosing finishes with me, to plywood, siding, house wrap, windows, reframing window openings, doors, plumbing, electrical, an entirely new basement bathroom with buried pump, a new laundry room, relocating my water heater to a more proper placement, spray foam insulation, a new larger deck that is gorgeous, obtaining all of the proper permits and dealing with our town building department for inspections, a new central air system, a brand new baseboard heating system, drywall and taping, tiling, new white oak flooring with a gray wash finish, cabinetry, lighting, recessed lighting throughout the entire house, painting and on and on. Vinny anticipated every step of this entire project with unparalleled precision. I gave him creative control of almost everything in the house because his previous work and excellent reputation speak for themselves and I have not been disappointed. He even made my bedroom closet bigger. He made my bathroom wider to meet building codes for the vanity and door. His attention to detail and knowledge have been vital to this project. This guy knows exactly what he wants, what he needs to do to get the job done, he has the skilled craftsmen and tradespeople to complete the most specialized of work and he takes so much pride in everything he does. Does a mirror need to be the entire width of the vanity? if so, the space does not allow for 2 side sconces. A: No it doesn't. A kohler recessed mirror will give you the clean lines you desire and room enought for a wall sconce on each side of the mirror. If you have to wall mount it make sure you get the mirror pieces to fill the space on each side **Q: Paint color for kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)* Any suggestions? My countertops are Caesarstone white ash, floor is a dark brown hardwood-look tile and backsplash will be white marble subway tile. A: I agree with the soft yellow. It will pick up the brown in the floor and tie in with the countertops nicely. A very pale yellow , not yellow. **Q: Need help in designing kitchen and living room** *(in Design Dilemma)* i have the attached the drawing of the house. This can be opened with autocad. if its not able to open it then please let me know on my email id asra\_sana@yahoo.co.in A: I spend a lot of my time attempting to help potential customers with their designs only to find out that they get sticker shock when they find out how much the cabinets alone cost . On average in New York , Thomasville cabinets are going to run you $20,000. In The New York area it is free for Home Depot to do a drawing. I am not suggesting to use anyone and not hire them but the associates at Lowes and Home Depot are happy to be working and do not get commissions. You are correct in saying they may not be perfect, but at least you are but into cardiac arrest when I tell you how much a custom , high quality kitchen will cost them. **Q: Can James Hardie siding be combined with old cedar shake siding?** *(in Design Dilemma)* My home is covered with random width cedar shake siding. I want to re-side the two badly sun damaged sides with James Hardie random width shake siding and leave the other two sides with the old shake and then repaint the entire home. Has anyone tried this and does the blend work? A: I agree it will work , but make sure you replace all your corner moldings and trim with either versatec , azac, or some type of composite board . It's a bit more money but it will not rot later on down the line and then you will pay double **Q: Construction of new kitchen...all white. Need help.** *(in Design Dilemma)* Need help with back splash and lighting. Our kitchen has been demolished and will be combined w/ small breakfast room to make a medium sized kitchen. We have chosen white cabinets, white granite counter tops; will have medium oak floors to match those already in house, white walls, trim. Stainless fridge, microwave and stove. Details: There are two windows (paned :6 over 6) and 72" gliding doors (panes: 3 across, 5 down, each of two doors) which will open on to deck and woods, adding visuals. Would like help with what sort of back splash to have. White subway tiles would be ok, but wondering what else would work, in white? and what sort of hanging lights would work. House is from 1927 and we are using the same molding around doors and for baseboard. Want kitchen to look contemporary but classic. Will have small counter-height table w/ same granite top and like idea of grey and white large striped fabric on upholstered stools, as seen in some of the white kitchens on Houzz. I am concerned about some of the comments I have been reading about the difficulty with cleaning the stone in the shower...should I keep it simple?
