### Reviews

**★★★★★ — L. Cramer Builders + Remodelers, Nov. 2016**

> L. Cramer Builders + Remodelers has collaborated with Murphy & Co. Design on some highly detailed projects with discriminating clients. Jeff Murphy and his team are fluent in various forms of architectural language to suit each client's preferences, yet always consistently express architectural sensitivity and authenticity. Their clients benefit, as do we, the builder, from their winning trifecta of detailed plans, consistent communications, and engaging personal styles. A top notch firm!

**Comment from Murphy & Co. Design:**

> We appreciate all the kind words L. Cramer! We have mutual admiration for your company and are always thankful to work with such an amazing group like yours!

**★★★★★ — Megan Fitzgerald, Nov. 2016**

> We highly recommend Murphy & Co Design. Not only are Dan and Jeff great talents, they are great guys. Their patient, thoughtful, and creative approach to the design of our house will be appreciated by our family for years to come.

**Comment from Murphy & Co. Design:**

> The experience has most definitely been our pleasure! You guys are top notch clients, and we thank you very much for the recommendation!

**★★★★★ — Hage Homes, Nov. 2016**

> Murphy & Co. Design is a phenomenal firm. The team at Murphy & Co. is gracious and warm (and quite funny), and I am often taken aback at how humble they are for being so talented. Jeff and TJ are professional and incredibly courteous. Their work is exquisite, It is no wonder they have a loyal local clientele as well as international clientele. We had the honor of working with them on our office, and could not be more pleased with our experience and the final design. Highly recommend!

**Comment from Murphy & Co. Design:**

> Thank you very much Hage Homes! We appreciate our relationship with you and were honored to have you engage us in the layout of your own offices. We love your attentiveness to design and working with you has been incredibly enjoyable!

**★★★★★ — Christine Marvin Farnes, Oct. 2016**

> We knew from the start that Murphy & Co. Design was the perfect architectural partner for us on our home project. Aside from their beautiful, detailed and thoughtful design work (which is outstanding), we love the empathy they demonstrate and their fun personalities. While they have a strong portfolio of traditional style, they nailed our modern mountain look (and yes, we are building it on the plains of northern MN).
>
> T.J. and Jeff have designed a home for our growing family and helped us envision rooms that will work for our future teenagers. It is a home that is unique, very design forward, warm and comfortable. Every room and detail was explored from a form and function standpoint.
>
> Throughout the process, there have been moments of "delight" along the way - little gestures that are above and beyond (including an ice cream meeting!).
>
> Their experience, abilities, focus on collaboration and sense of humor make this group a winning team.

**Comment from Murphy & Co. Design:**

> A marvelous project and even more marvelous clients! This design was the result of a true collaboration of ideas, inspirations, and fun energy with both of you. You deserved the ice cream, but you earned the sprinkles!

**★★★★★ — josh2371, Oct. 2016**

> Murphy & Co. has been amazing to work with! They have gone above and beyond to understand and interpret the ideas and visions that we had. My two favorite actions they took were to communicate and educate throughout the entire process. I have and will continue to recommend their services.

**Comment from Murphy & Co. Design:**

> Thank you Josh, we appreciate the great feedback regarding our process. Open communication and dialogue with the team is a vital part of every successful project! We look forward to many more partnerships with you in the years ahead!

**★★★★★ — Ben Ganje + Partners, Oct. 2016**

> TJ and Jeff are some of the few architects in Minnesota with a pedigree for truly exceptional design. From simple projects to complex estates across the globe they are respectful of the past and writing the future for architectural design.

**Comment from Murphy & Co. Design:**

> Thank you for the kind words Ben - we appreciate our relationship with you and your company, as well as the thoughtful vision and accomplishments you've brought to your projects and clientele!

**★★★★★ — Hendel Homes, April 2015**

> We have had the honor of working with Murphy & Co. Design. Jeff Murphy and his team provide amazing detail to every project. They know and understand architectural design and proportion and carefully implement those details into every project. Murphy and Co listen to each homeowners desires and wishes and provide options and creativity that exceed expectations. We would highly recommend Murphy & Co. Design to anyone looking for a highly talented architect that will provide a one of a kind home, with amazing, refined detail that is both livable and beautiful!

**★★★★★ — Susan Gilmore Photography, March 2015**

> I have had the fortunate opportunity to photograph many of Murphy & Co. Designs work and every time I shoot one of their homes I am more and more amazed and impressed. Their work is outstanding, unique, and of the highest quality and craftsmanship. Every homeowner has told me what a wonderful experience it was working with Murphy & Co. and how much they love their home. Jeff Murphy is the utmost professional and cares deeply about every aspect of his work. I never feel like I am done shooting his homes ... he adds so many unique details that I could keep shooting for days!

**★★★★★ — jenniferbrixius, March 2015**

> We chose Murphy & Co. to redesign the outside of our 70's home. They were amazing and now people cannot believe our house is that old! Jeff and team have excellent customer service skills, extensive design knowledge, great attention to detail and overall, are wonderful to work with! Recently, we've engaged them to design built in's for our den and we have been more than pleased with them once again! Highly recommend!

**★★★★★ — Jeff Jones, March 2015**

> The greatest compliment we can offer about working with Murphy & Co is how they listened to us and translated our needs into a vision for what our home could be. Jeff helped us think about the story of our home...despite being brand new, we wanted to build a home that appeared to have been in the neighborhood "forever" -- one that we had renovated and made additions over time. Inside, Jeff listened carefully to how we live and how we like to entertain and partnered closely with us on flow, aesthetic and many many details!

**★★★★★ — User, March 2015**

> Jeff wowed us with his design! We wanted a "windows on the water" look for our new home and Murphy Design far exceeded our expectations. Jeff perfectly situated the house and every room on our lot and our home is beautiful from both the lake view and street view. His understanding of building rules and regulations enabled us to achieve some specific designs we wanted. Jeff's talent for listening to what our vision was and then turning it into reality was amazing. His patience throughout the project and his desire to please us was so wonderful. We especially like the superb roof lines of our home and the stunning window arrangement. Jeff's team was splendid to work with and everyone kept the project on time and on budget. We would highly recommend Murphy & Co. Design to anyone!

**★★★★★ — maritasimmons, March 2015**

> Marita Simmons Interiors had the opportunity to work alongside Jeff and the Murphy & Co. team on the design and build of a new construction residence in Wayzata. While Jeff is the master at dreaming up and executing design details, he also possesses an unmatched commitment to client service. Their team listens carefully and delivers incredibly thoughtful work; deadlines were always met and the clients were always happy. Every bit of our collaboration was efficient and professional, and I would proudly recommend Murphy & Co. to clients in the future. We look forward to the prospect of teaming up again soon!

- [Wayzata Bay Farmhouse](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/wayzata-bay-farmhouse-pj-vj~5832640)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 18
  - Description: With commanding views of the city of Wayzata and it’s bay, this new Lake Minnetonka Farmhouse is a classic example of modern lake living. With features like a huge wrap-around porch, numerous lakeside balconies, and huge amounts of glass, this home will offer plenty of ideal features to enjoy family living on the lake. On the interior, shiplap walls surround details like painted brick fireplaces, reclaimed timber posts, interior shuttered openings, and even a gigantic Hoosier inspired ice-box. O…
- [Lake Minnetonka - Spanish Revival](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/lake-minnetonka-spanish-revival-pj-vj~5832753)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 39
  - Description: This Spanish Revival residence was built on the shores of Lake Minnetonka in Orono in 1931, which at the time was an expansive property that also served as an apple orchard (with some apple trees still remaining today). The home includes beautiful features such as original steel windows, intricate ornamental ironwork, and hand-crafted Spanish tile. Our clients loved the original structure, but certain rooms were not optimal for capturing lake views, or functioning well for a modern day family. W…
- [Minnetrista Lake Lodge](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/minnetrista-lake-lodge-pj-vj~1500547)
  - Location: Orono, MN
  - Photos: 14
  - Description: This pictorial property sits in a valley surrounded by wetlands and Lake Minnetonka, with water views in every direction. The owners desired a new home that captured their love of Scandinavian architecture, early 1900’s lake Minnetonka lodges, and their eclectic collection of antiques. Because of a uniquely wide lot, we designed the home to be narrow in depth (only 1-2 rooms deep in most areas) yet meandering in its width, allowing natural light to filter through the home effortlessly, with most…
- [Lowry Hill Carriage House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/lowry-hill-carriage-house-pj-vj~5832821)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 11
  - Description: A storied home with character and history worthy of the Lowry Hill neighborhood included a dilapidated carriage house built alongside the principal structure dating back to 1896. A complete redesign and reconstruction of this Carriage House required an approach that paid homage to the incredible architecture set forth by the main home, while providing the space and function needed to fit today’s amenities. The scale and massing of this new Carriage House were prudently studied to ensure a proper…
- [French Mediterranean](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/french-mediterranean-pj-vj~5832831)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 29
  - Description: Drawn to this property for its sprawling flat back yard, the owners commissioned us to design a home reflective of their love for the simple yet elegant French Mediterranean style. Romantic iron Juliet balconies adorn the second floor openings, with ornate modillions lining the eaves of the roof line above. The main level has eleven foot ceilings, with large roman arched doors and windows providing stunning views of the beautiful classical landscape. The entry is comprised of a carved stone surr…
- [Parisian Estate](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/parisian-estate-pj-vj~5832663)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 31
  - Description: This new estate home is sited on a commanding 19 acre property overlooking a golf course, thick forest, and cascading landscape featuring its own brook and small waterfalls. Our clients came to us looking to create a highly detailed French Provincial design, complete with interiors befitting a historic Parisian residence. The exterior is comprised of a cut stone rusticated base, with plastered and wood walls and a slate roof. The interior features elaborate plaster millwork, custom brass handrai…
- [Kellogg Farmhouse](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/kellogg-farmhouse-pj-vj~5832675)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 12
  - Description: Nestled on a small lot in the Arden Park neighborhood of Edina, this new home was designed to replace the owners smaller home for their quickly growing family. The home was envisioned as a fresh take on the traditional farmhouse. Using traditional materials and massing, the home harkens back to historic farmhouses with its simple gable forms and shed dormers. Inside, the simple rusticity of the exterior continues with the use of hand-hewn timber beams and columns throughout the main level. Many…
- [Colonial Farmhouse](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/colonial-farmhouse-pj-vj~620141)
  - Location: Minneapolis, MN
  - Photos: 16
  - Description: This new colonial farmhouse takes its cues from the rural farmstead homes of Pennsylvania built in the 18th and 19th centuries, coupled with an interior based on modern day living. The “main body”, clad in shingles, houses the main living spaces, while a separate carriage house is connected by a series of clapboard sided “additions”. The interiors are formally arranged, yet very open to one another. Classically styled millwork details blend harmoniously with a fresh approach to interior finishes…
- [Tramonto](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/tramonto-pj-vj~1223089)
  - Location: Eden Prairie, MN
  - Photos: 37
  - Description: With idyllic views of the Minnesota River valley, this new home commands elevated views seldom seen in the Minneapolis suburbs. The site is long and steep (including its own ski hill and tow rope), with much effort being placed on proper siting. To maximize the views, we designed a curving floor plan and large expanses of glass facing the valley, with a more subtle entry facade. A rooftop terrace with fireplace accessed via ships ladder is a favorite destination for viewing the breathtaking suns…
- [Mediterranean Glam](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/mediterranean-glam-pj-vj~5832652)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 9
  - Description: This Mediterranean style house blends traditional architecture with a fresh modern take on the furnishings and details. Located on the Chain of Lakes in Minneapolis, the house is set back from the busy parkway, while retaining idyllic water views. Unique site conditions necessitated elevating the house out of the ground which helped create a private feeling in the main living spaces, despite being a small city lot. The center of the house was conceived of as an open and airy space punctuated on…
- [The Gatehouse](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/the-gatehouse-pj-vj~27126)
  - Location: Deephaven, MN
  - Photos: 17
  - Description: Once the site of an early 1900’s camp, this wooded site on Lake Minnetonka was the perfect setting for this humble 860 SF residence steeped in architectural history. With a myriad of reclaimed building materials and architectural antiques to use for the construction (as noted in the captions), this cottage feels as if it were taken right from the Loire Valley of France. The open plan differentiates its “rooms” with the use of ceiling beams, posts, and ceiling changes, with rooms that share space…
- [Country Pool House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/country-pool-house-pj-vj~2147432)
  - Location: Long Lake, MN
  - Photos: 7
  - Description: Framed by an 18 acre landmark estate, picturesque pond, and a stunning elm tree pre-dating the state of Minnesota, this Pool House was designed to fit perfectly within its idyllic setting. Sophisticated and inspiring, yet sized to allow the surrounding landscape and scenery to remain as the focal point. Three expansive ten-foot wide sliding glass doors can be pocketed out of sight to integrate true indoor and outdoor living and function at the poolside. A two-story stair hall provides a bird’s e…

  - Location: Edina, MN
  - Photos: 17
  - Description: Beginning its life as a mid-century rambler, this Indian Hills home underwent a major interior & exterior renovation in the form of an East Coast Hampton Style. With its stunning two acre wooded site, much emphasis was placed on interior spaces that open & flow to the beautiful surroundings. Interior design & cabinetry by Casa Verde. - [Refined Colonial](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/refined-colonial-pj-vj~2186839)
  - Location: Minneapolis, MN
  - Photos: 7
  - Description: The design of this home harkens back to the colonial revival style houses of the 1920’s. The white clapboard siding and large front porch create a welcoming façade for the home, not to mention a great place to sip lemonade. Upon entering the home, the open floor plan combines historic details with unique, modern finishes and furnishings. The use of large windows and doors throughout the home brings an abundance of sunlight to each room, and allows the home to expand outside to enjoy the warm sum…

  - Location: Aspen, CO

  - Description: This mountain getaway is located at the base of Aspen Highlands ski resort. A large wall of windows and a spacious roof deck over the garage provide majestic views up the hill while relaxing after a day of skiing. The stone is supported by steel lintels, while the five foot overhangs shed the large amounts of snowfall. A spacious vaulted kitchen and dining space are anchored by a massive stone fireplace, while the Master Suite enjoys its own terrace and outdoor hot tub for those cool winter nigh…

The cottage style exterior gives way to a spacious open floor plan with a large wall of glass that opens to the rear yard. - [French Connection](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/french-connection-pj-vj~180002)
  - Location: Young America, MN
  - Photos: 28
  - Description: This new residence began its design as a shingled English cottage, and as construction commenced, the interiors took on a decidedly French direction. The lot is heavily wooded, providing a very private backyard oasis right in the heart of Wayzata. We developed the plan to embrace the pool, with the kitchen, screen porch, living room, and master bedroom/bath all opening onto the pool terrace. The living room takes it a step further with a fully retractable wall of doors that conceal themselves be…
- [Addition to Kennedy House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/addition-to-kennedy-house-pj-vj~1304525)
  - Location: Minneapolis, MN
  - Photos: 4
  - Description: Our client asked us to design an addition and renovation to their 1922 home in Minneapolis originally designed by architect Ernest Kennedy, who was also the architect for the Pillsbury mansion. The home lacked a good entry from the detached garage to the house, and also had an outdoor stair to enter the home (good luck in winter!). This addition is a classically inspired design consistent with the original home, and includes an elegant Rear Entryway that has Mud Room functionality, with a sweepi…

  - Location: Wayzata, MN
  - Photos: 10
  - Description: This rustic barn serves as a multi-functional companion to the main house, and is accessed by a meandering stone drive path between mature ash trees. A rusted steel roof provides deep shelter over a reclaimed wood and battered stone exterior. The cozy sitting room includes a large stone fireplace with authentic iron cooking hardware, and a desk alcove surrounded by glass. The Hunting Shop includes a track-mounted ceiling hoist, ammo loading bench, washer & dryer, and a modern day outhouse. Resid…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Would you be willing to share the floorpan of this home?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Would you be willing to share the floorpan of this home? Its gorgeous!

A: Sadly, we are a bit handcuffed regarding sharing information regarding custom home information/plans...out of respect for the owners who paid for the original design.

**Q: coffee table** *(in Photo Questions)*

Would you share how to get a coffee table same or similar? tx

A: It is a beautiful table. Unfortunately, it was a piece that was custom built or selected by the owner and/or the interior designer. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

**Q: island color and stain** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the wood snd stain on the island?

A: I think that the wood type/stain works so well with the tones and materials in the room too. Unfortunately, it is likely a custom color mix that was chosen during the interior design phase of the project. I'm sorry we couldn't be more helpful.

**Q: What brand and color of paint did you use?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love the color!

A: I too think that the colors work so well with the tones and materials in the room. Unfortunately, it is likely a custom color mix that was chosen during the interior design phase of the project. I'm sorry we couldn't be more helpful.

**Q: Can you tell me how the lining boards in the ceiling were treated?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love the color, is it painted? pickled? lime-washed? or just a paint colour? thanks!

A: That is a great question. I too love the treatment, as it works so well with the other surrounding tones. Unfortunately, final finishes were handled during the construction phase of the project. I'm sorry we couldn't be more helpful.

**Q: Beautiful Exterior White** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you tell us the paint color , please?

A: I too love the nice clean timeless white on this house. Unfortunately, it is likely a custom color mix that was chosen during the finishing stages of the project. I'm sorry we couldn't be more helpful.
