**★★★★★ — Cedar Drive, March 2021**

> We could not be happier with our experience building with PRM. Paul and his team were extremely attentive to our needs and concerns throughout each phase of the building process--and the result is even better than we expected. We were half-way through our project when the Covid pandemic started and we had a lot of questions about how it could affect our finished product. Paul's experience and foresight helped ease any of our concerns and his team delivered with the same attention to detail and quality craftmanship that PRM is known for. I would highly recommend PRM to anyone looking to build in this area.

**★★★★★ — Alex Coke, March 2021**

> PRM was able to create everything we wanted in our custom home. Paul (the owner) makes himself available to his clients at any time and is extremely easy to work and communicate with. PRM has a good relationship with all the best trades in the area to deliver a high quality product.

**★★★★★ — Robert Lawrence, March 2021**

> We engaged Paul to build our custom dream home, it is not the first time we've built a custom home. This was a complex project that includes significant automation and technologies including wired & wireless mesh networking, whole-house audio & lighting controls, a hybrid heating & cooling system (boiler for radiant/water, forced air for heating and cooling), and a 20kW solar array with Tesla battery backups. In the midst of the project a global pandemic hit. Paul helped manage the supply and contractor disruptions and would meet us on-site to review progress and answer any questions or concerns. As we dealt with changes and additions (there are always changes and additions!), he quickly updated estimates and budgets to help inform our decisions. He seamlessly coordinated with our design team (RSM in Birmingham) to execute our vision. He didn't low-ball estimates or bids (watch out for this with other builders), and we always knew where our budget was at. His commitment to quality and attention to detail (embodied in the contractors he hires) ensured we received the home we dreamed of; we could not be happier.

**Comment from PRM Custom Builders:**

> Thank you for the great review! We enjoyed working with you in making this project a successful one.

**★★★★★ — rchioini, Nov. 2020**

> I represent a number of custom residential builders in the metro area and none are as capable as PRM. Paul has an extraordinary eye for detail and is always building with the best and newest technology and designs. I know that when I refer a client to Paul, they will receive white glove treatment and that they will be beyond pleased with his finished product and his processes to get them there. He is fair and respectable. Trust him innately.

**★★★★★ — torricep, Nov. 2020**

> Absolutely the best! Paul knows all of the ins and outs of the building process. Paul takes the time to explain every step along the way. My wife and I couldn't be happier with how the process went and how on budget and on time Paul was. Building a home is an endeavor and Paul made it easy. His creativity and design is like no other!!!. Highly recommend PRM Custom Builders for your dream home.

**★★★★★ — Colleen Miller, May 2020**

> We had a unique opportunity to purchase a lot of land on our own and chose the builder we wanted to work with. We have no regrets in choosing PRM. Our project was completed ON TIME and the finished product is amazing. We brought several design ideas to the table that were executed seamlessly. The quality is great and the team is very easy to work with. I highly recommend PRM to build your custom home.

**Comment from PRM Custom Builders:**

> Thank you for your kind words, you guys were amazing to work with which made this building experience wonderful. We are thrilled that we had the opportunity to bring your vision and home to reality,

## Community Q&A

**Q: Front porch help** *(in Porches & Decks)*

I need help making this porch look attractive and more updated. im stumped

A: 2 new sconces
Wide planters with color plants
New address numbers
If keeping the rocking chair, a colorful seat pad
A over the door hook with a seasonal wreaths/decor

**Q: Updated Jack and Jill bathroom** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi, wanted to share a bathroom refresh we did a bit back but I never posted pictures.

This was the original (1990) Jack and Jill bath that’s in between my kids’ (14 and 18) bedrooms.

The first pic was my inspiration.

THEN my before/afters. I took these at night, so not the best but the lights are pretty bright!

The tub/shower and toilet are in an alcove behind the curtain. My goal is to eventually replace the pocket doors with regular doors. Has anyone here done that and is it easy?

The floor is Cortec and I absolutely love it for this bathroom!
Vanity is Home Depot.

A: Updating the pocket door and the pocket door hardware will make a large difference

**Q: area rug first or sofas?** *(in Home Decorating)*

Hello,
My husband and I know the style of sofa we would like, and color. We will want area rug where our sofas will be in our living room. Is it recommended we select the area rug first then dial in on the fabric color?
Thannk you,

A: It depends on which item may be a longer-term item; I would recommend around the item you believe you will have and enjoy the longest.

**Q: Before and after - small kitchen in house built in 50's** *(in Before & After)*

First the before... Kitchen is a little under 10x10 with a 52" wide window along the exterior wall. This left less than 33" on either side of the window which limited me a bit on the design.

Other than the cabinets being old and dated, my main issue was storage and very little useable counter space. I had about 12" to the left of the cooktop and a wall on the other side. Although I didn't think to take pictures of the ceiling, it was very uneven with two big fluorescent light fixtures. One of which would only choose to come on about half the time.

Now, the after...

We removed most of the wall between the dining room and kitchen. We have a cove ceiling in the dining room so we did have to keep part of the wall. We also removed the soffits and installed new drywall in the ceiling. Fortunately, I was smart enough to purchase extra flooring when we installed LVP in the living room, dining room, hallway and office so we were able to keep the floors the same with no transition strip.

The details...

Cabinets - Kraftmaid Full Overlay Breslin with Saddle finish
Countertop - MSI Calacatta Mirragio Gold Quartz
Backsplash - Ivy Hill Kingston White from Home Depot (same as Portmore White from Tile Bar)
Sink - Elkay Crosstown 26" Sink with offset drain
Faucet - Pfister Miri Pull Down Kitchen Faucet from Build.com
Pulls - Hickory Hardware Twist in Satin Nickel from Build.com
Pendant Light - Quoizel Towne 1-Light Brushed Nickel Mini Pendant from Home Depot
Dining Room Chandelier - Alloy Ribbons 5-Light Chandelier from Wayfair
Ceiling Lights - Commercial Electric Ultra Slim 4in Canless LED from Home Depot
Flooring - Home Decorators Collection Maple Syrup Luxury Vinyl Plank from Home Depot

Appliances are all GE Profile. I went from a 30" wide standard refrigerator to a 36" wide counter depth. I haven't had any issues at all in regards to refrigerator storage with the counter depth. In fact, due to the larger door bins, I'm able to fit most everything that "lives" in the fridge right in the door!

I also want to give some attention to the wall oven. I loved the wall oven in the old kitchen and was set on having a double oven but didn't want to give up the drawers underneath. I was going to settle and go with a range when I found that GE makes a 30" double oven. I was so happy - best of both worlds! They only make it in the Profile and Cafe lines and it is a little smaller than you would get with a traditional range double oven, but it works for our purposes.

I found this site late in the process but still wanted to thank all of you for your help and guidance through this adventure. I did get quite a lot of good advice and found out about a few nifty little gadgets too - namely the Elkay SinkMates and the Never MT soap dispenser - love both of those!

A: This is a great renovation. The backsplash and hardware stands out!

**Q: Before and after condo remodel** *(in Before & After)*

After years of dreaming and finding inspiration on Houzz, we completed the renovation of our condo. I'm posting highlights below, but you can see all the photos in my ideabook here (https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/169408752/thumbs/condo-renovation).

When entering the condo, you came right into the kitchen. Low ceilings with bad lighting, little counter space, and tiled countertops. Not a functional space at all.

Putting up a wall to define the kitchen, while maintaining an opening to the living room, has made for a much better sense of welcome into the space. The lighted niche also creates a focal point, showcasing a cherished Turkish plate from our travels.

My main goal with this remodel was to create a more efficient layout so two of us could work in the kitchen at the same time.

We did this by moving the range to the adjacent wall. Raising the ceiling and having some open shelving helped create more openness. We also used smaller appliances (24-inch fridge and 18-in dishwasher) which bought critical inches when it came to counter space and storage. For two people, it's just the right size.

Before, the living room had lots of light (which was why we could have such dark walls). But we chose to brighten everything up.

All of the texture was removed from the walls and the ceilings. French doors into the den bring in much more light. And the peacock blue tile bring a punch of color.

What used to be our son's bedroom is now our den/office/guest room. We converted the closet into a built-in office space.

A little alcove in a corner of the room is now home to a built-in daybed and reading nook.

Another dramatic change was saying goodbye to this decrepit bathroom.

The bath is now set up for true "me time" with a soaking tub. The vanity is an antique Chinese cabinet that I bought years ago. We purposely did not put a shower in this room as we have a fabulous shower in our other bath, and we do not plan on selling our home - it's a forever space. The only thing left to do here is some decorative painting on the walls. An artist friends will be painting some blooming magnolia branches to bring home the Zen quality of the space.

Hope this serves as some inspiration as I found so much inspiration on Houzz when designing my space!

A: This is fantastic! The tile selections are great in every room.

**Q: Kitchen Uneven Cabinet Issue Solved!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

A while ago I asked the community to help me with my kitchen refresh. I needed ideas on how to update my old 90's outdated oak kitchen. One of my biggest issues I wanted to solve was my uneven cabinets. I SCOURED the internet trying to figure out a cost effective way to solve this problem as we were DIYing most of the refresh. With the help of Pinterest I came up with the idea to put up wine racks to even out the cabinets. I LOVE how it turned out. We did end up doing refacing in the kitchen. In my original post this wasn't an option but things changed mid refresh to where we could afford this service.

I hope this post helps someone looking to solve this problem.
Before

After

A: Great solution!
